NEVER EVER trust scoopon for any eatery (other than HJ's) heard nothing but horror stories from dozens of my friends. if it's on sale and it goes in your mouth stay away (that's what she s—)

Not true. I've used about six Scoopons before for 'Jimmy Deans' and 'Fasy Eddys' and never had a problem with either.

        • yeah if it's something like a chain franchise, then of course its going to be good
but if it's a restaurant. ugh.

      • Toothpaste?

  • I dont know how scoopon works, but this gym is located directly across my work place.
Good price for trying new place but they do have a 7 day trial, i wonder if that will stack.
Fine print says new memebers only, not sure if trying the trial counts as member or not….

  • How much does it cost once the 4 weeks are up?

  • +7

Just a friendly heads up. In your first gym session the rep is going to try to talk you into signing up on the spot by saying we will give half price sign up and the offer is only available if you sign up now.

Don't fall for it. I'm sure the next week they will offer the same deal after you have tried out the gym.

    • +5

ugh. Sounds very fitness first, doesn't it?

      • -3

I think orange123 has them confused with Business First. I have quite a few mates that use Anytime Fitness…they do so because there is no lock-in contracts! ;)

        • +2

Well they did that to me too when I went in to claim the free 7 day trial at my local one. I ended up just doing that one session and never going back because of it.

        • Hmm, that's bizarre. None of my mates have ever mentioned getting the hard sell there. They are a bit like me though, they would just laugh & say no! ;)

Fair enough though, something to watch out for!

        • I think they have lock in contracts but I agree with you on the hard-sell part. Their gyms are mostly franchisee operated and do not employ FF like sales staff.

        • Two of my workmates told me today that they are also on m2m with AF, they have a contract but it's definitely not a lock-in, they can suspend or quit at any time with a month notice. That's pretty much the same as my buddies experience.

As you say, it must be up the the individual franchisees to set the contract terms?

        • Anytime Fitness do offer lock in contracts for 12 and 24 months. I don't know where you got the idea that they didn't. They are a gym after all.

        • You do know the difference between an offer & a mandate don't you QW3RTY? My gym offers lock-in contracts to some members, but I'm not on one. Lock-ins are for suckers that won't negotiate! :p

According to my friends & colleagues with AF, they aren't locked in either…go figure eh! ;)

    • +1

Yeah — they do try it on, but it's never as hard as Fitness First.

  • +1

Yeah this has got me thinking too, $19 for a month, plus refundable $50 for the key, but says normally $100? Is there normally a joining fee that is wavered? Appears as though people normally spend $30-45 per month depending on location and the employee that signs you up..
Might give them a call tomorrow..

  • They're all locally operated businesses. My local one had $65/month after introductory offer and was extremely friendly. Had 2 month cooloff to let me choose if i wanted to take up the offer. Allows you to roam to any other anytime fitness after 1st month, i was told it was to do with the propagation of the keys through the system of door locks

  • Thanks! Bought it! $19 is cheap!

  • thankx

  • It was cheaper here for Brisbane.
    http://experiences.ouffer.com/four-week-membership-to-anytim…

Got mine and using it now. Paid a refundable deposit $59.90 for the access key. Just a questionaire during sign up. In fact, I got one extra that my partner bought me but I already bought one myself, can't get refund and they won't let me use it twice (my bad). PM me if you would like to buy it off me (use by 25 Oct 2012).

    • so no ridiculous 'sign-up fees'/'admin' fees etc?

      • no other fees, except for the refundable deposit for the access key

  • Just got this. Thanks

  • hmmm theres one near my workplace, but last time i went in to enquire they said the access key wasn't refundable and there were two prices, one for 12mths the other was 24mths so i assumed it was contracted…

can anyone verify the points above are invalid???

        Hell no, im 17 !

      • Note: Limited Scoopons available for each location (select your preferred location when you purchase)

Well I selected my location but I got no feedback on whether it was available or not. It went straight to Paypal. Do I have to pay first and then find out, does it mean that since it went to payment already, it was available in the location I selected?

    • I think for the scoopon deal, the access key is refundable however it's not refundable for regular members

As I have been looking around at AF, here is what price I have uncovered. The $99 joining fee can be waived, but the $59 access key will not be waived. The cheapest rate I found was $12.95 per week. They usually tell you a higher rate, but $12.95 was the best I could get it down to for a few AF in Parramatta area in Sydney. There is a new one at Newington opening soon, the offer $49.95 for foundation member. But the guy told me I can only use their gym in the first 2 months before using other AF, so I don't think i'll be joining Newington even though price is good.

    • pay $9.95 a week here in adelaide. it was foundation membership though. you have to use the gym you sign up for one month here before using other ones.

      • whats the adelaide gym like?

it would be good to be able to see what it is,. but cant find pics orr info on it specifically

    • $52 a month in Melb, foundation member.

    • i am around parra area.. where did you get the 12.95 per week quote? i been getting $65 a month quote..

      • sorry, should've mentioned the $12.95 (or more correctly they showed me a big sign that said $56.41 per month) was on 24 month contract at Parramatta. I then went to Auburn, and they said they can match it. So i bet most of them will match it. 24 Months isn't a bad thing, as least your price is locked in. But it means you can't slack off and must go. The West Ryde AF can do $12.95 pw on 18 month contract. But they screwed me, the first guy told me it's for 12 month contract, then he reckons he can't logon to system to sign me up. I came back next day, and a different guy said its $12.95 for 18 months, that pssed me off for stuffing me around. So I'm not gonna join up with them, I'll join up with the Parra one, but will use West Ryde primarily.

        • thanks mate.. i will try auburn one…

        • do you know howlong do you have to go to the gym that you joined before start going to the local anytime fitness?

    • I had the access key/joining fees waived on a 12 month contract.

  • Been going to this place for a while, great gym. All new equipment.

  • Just resigned to this gym. Managed to get a better price of $43.33 a month on direct debit. No joining fee or any other fees.

    • hey twodollah,

where did you manage to get the deal? are you in sydney? i am looking around at the moment. They will not come down below $65 per month + Card access fee.

  • Anytime is pretty good, only negative is they sign you up to a 12 mth contract, I'm with Jetts 24hr and its not as good as Anytime but they let you join on simple month 2 month. I guess seeing as Anytime is also franchised the manager on duty decides how much you pay. In Sydney Anytime is around $45 - $65 / mth (when you include the sneaky transaction fees / fortnight).

  • i want to know what the go id after as in do you get locked into a contract or what? WOuld be good if it was a std month-to-month then after :/

    • +1

As someone said earlier, they might put the hard word on you; but I have a few mates that use anytime, all are on M2M with no lock_in so you know if you stand your ground it's achievable.

  • +2

worth trying for a month and if u dont like it then after that dont go back lol

  • I think the deals over. The link doesn't work and I went to Scoopon's site and couldn't navigate to the deal.

    • I was literally just on the deal and it said 3 hours remaining… By the time I signed in it was gone. Wtf?

edit: Nevermind, it has returned with 24 more hours.

      • Yeah it's back again. They're just messin with me :P

  • +1

How does scoopon work? Do you buy the "coupon" for $19 and then you don't pay anything at the gym?

Will the gym still ask for your credit card details if you only want your one month?

  • If i do end up signing a contract after the trial period, is there a direct debit fee associated with the price they give per week?

  • So, if i decide to continue my membership after the 4 weeks. do i have to re-pay for the $50-60 key?

or do i just continue my membership by paying $xx monthly fee?

    • IME they will waive the key fee if you negotiate.

      • but at what rate? they'll prob charge you $15.95p/w

  • No guys this deal cannot be used if you bought this deal when it was on 6 months ago it is for first time users of the club only…

  • Just wondering if anyone has had any problems using this?
I got this for a friend who has never used any of the Anytime Fitness gyms before, but from what he says he's been unable to redeem it.

  • Had no issues redeeming this twice.
Got banned in Balwyn AF for letting a mate in via Scoopon deal.
Then signed up for Heidelberg store via Scoopon again since last week. All good

  • NO DEAL I went to redeem at the branch I picked and they said I could not get the 24 hours access only staffed hours and that Scoopon made a mistake saying it was 24 hours access. Contacting Scoopon for my refund.
