  • Can we stack multiple gift cards for instore purchase at Jb hifi?

    • +3

      Yes

    • +10

Yes, current record is 81 Cards

      • Amazing. You can still access the receipt image - classic!

    • +4

The instore checkout system will let staff members split a purchase across multiple TCN gift cards, but it will be at the discretion of the staff member serving you at the checkout of whether this will happen.

      • If you are purchasing a gift card (e.g. Apple gift card, PlayStation gift card), you may be able to get away with it, but there are no guarantees there, especially since some staff members will insist you cannot use gift cards to purchase gift cards.

      • If you are purchasing basically anything else, I would actually be surprised if the staff member said “no” to a split payment request. The TCN gift cards in this deal operate on the EFTPOS network, so you will need to tell the staff member you want to do split payments across multiple cards (or EFTPOS cards, if clarification is required).1 You will also need to tell the staff member the amount on each TCN gift card before you are about to swipe it, as the staff member will have no way of telling the available balance of each TCN gift card just by looking at the checkout system.

      1. If you instead tell the staff member you want to redeem gift cards, they will likely think you are wanting to redeem JB Hi-Fi gift cards. JB Hi-Fi gift cards are handled very differently to TCN gift cards in terms of redemption, so if you tell the staff member you want redeem a gift card and they select Gift Card on the checkout, the EFTPOS terminal will boot into a mode where only JB Hi-Fi gift cards can be redeemed, which means you will not be able to redeem TCN (or Ultimate) gift cards unless you tell the staff member you want to redeem a card (or EFTPOS card).

      • So if i buy $50 card. Is the price i pay $45 at the checkout or i pay $50 and i get the $5 in everyday reward points?

        • This deal is for an upfront discount and has nothing to do with Everyday Rewards.

For example, if you scan a $50 TCN TEEN gift card, the checkout will ask you to only pay $45 for it.

You do not need an Everyday Rewards card to take advantage of this deal.

Nice, just got back from the local and placed some behind the ovens to make sure I can get some

      You sir are a master-baker!

      • +7

I bought a whole cooked Chicken and when i opened the bag it has TCN $100 gift cards in it.

        • +2

I bought a sponge cake and when I cut it up, it has TCN $100 gift cards in it :-).

    • Take my upvote. I'm going to go do the same.

  • Can we use TCN gift cards for online purchase?

    • Answered here by our resident GC Wizard.

    • +2

You cannot directly redeem the TCN gift cards in this deal at the online store of any participating retailer, as the TCN gift cards in this deal operate on the EFTPOS network (and that network does not support online transactions).

However, if you go to the TCN webpage for any TCN gift card and scroll down to the Participating Retailers section, you will see a matrix of logos corresponding to each participating retailer. Tapping on a participating retailer’s logo will update the panel to the left or above the matrix, and next to the participating retailer’s name will be one of three things:

      • Instore
      • Instore & Online
      • Online

If Instore & Online or Online is mentioned next to the participating retailer’s name, it means that you can exchange your TCN gift card through the TCN website for a digital gift card from that participating retailer. However, before you go down this path, think about whether this is a good idea for the participating retailer(s) and the potential purchases you have in mind. For example:

      • JB Hi-Fi currently allows you to use TCN gift cards in their physical stores, as well as exchange TCN gift cards for JB Hi-Fi gift cards (which you can them redeem instore or online). You can redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi online store, so TCN gift cards make sense in this situation.

      • rebel allows you to use TCN gift cards in their physical stores, as well as exchange TCN gift cards for rebel gift cards (which you can them redeem instore or online). However, you can only redeem a maximum of 3 rebel gift cards in an online purchase, so if you are wanting to spend $2,000 on a new treadmill on the rebel online store, TCN gift cards are a bad idea. There is no way to consolidate multiple TCN gift cards into ones, and I cannot think of a guaranteed way where you can consolidate multiple rebel gift cards into one rebel gift card.

      • I tried to exchange the TCN Teen to JB last month but the number of digits did not match. Also, I tried to buy an item on the JB website to see if it could be used as a credit card as described on the TCN website and yes it was recognised however the process did not go through at the final checkout

Edit: There is no JB on the exchange list for my TNC Teens

        • I'll be honest… I'm puzzled.

I tried to buy an item on the JB website to see if it could be used as a credit card as described on the TCN website and yes it was recognised however the process did not go through at the final checkout

What were you entering into the checkout page? If I enter a physical TEEN gift card number into the Credit/Debit Card section, the checkout does not recognise it as a Visa, Mastercard or AMEX, plus I cannot even enter the last digit in the card number. The same thing happens if I enter a physical TEEN gift card number into the Gift Card section of the checkout.

There is no JB on the exchange list for my TNC Teens

What sort of TCN TEEN gift card do you have? I just entered a TCN TEEN gift card into the TEEN gift card page and am given the option to exchange to a JB Hi-Fi gift card.

          • @WookieMonster: Sorry I mixed up TCN and the Ultimate since they are both Teen(s) my brain treated them as the same. But pretty sure the Ultimate can be used as a credit card as it says on their website. Handy when opening a new account that requires banking

            • @Bii: That makes much more sense.

It has not been possible to exchange an Ultimate gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card through the Ultimate gift card website for over a year.

Did you use the correct expiry date on the online checkout?

              • @WookieMonster: A bit tricky to find the expiry date on the physical Ultimate card though. I had to register the card to see. not sure if 12/2029 is the common one

                • @Bii: There is no mention of an expiry date on physical Ultimate gift cards. You need to go to the Ultimate gift card website to actually find the expiry date used for purchases with physical Ultimate gift cards (12/29)… if you ask me, the expiry date used for purchases should be on the card itself.

If you used the correct expiry date and all other card details were correct and you made sure that the amount you wanted to pay did not exceed the available card balance, it sounds like Riskified1 flagged your transactions as likely to be fraudulent, causing JB Hi-Fi to stop the transaction.

                  1. Riskified is a system JB Hi-Fi uses to determine whether a transaction should be flagged for increased risk of being fraudulent.

                  • @WookieMonster: It says 3 years from the purchase date on the card but 12/29 on the online. a bit of the conflict there.

                    • @Bii: It is confusing, but there is some method to the madness.

There are two different “expiry dates” for physical Ultimate gift cards:

                      • The available balance on a card will expire three years from the date the gift card was issued. Most people would call that date three years into the future as the “expiry date”.

                      • The expiry date used for card-not-present purchases and adding to a mobile wallet is 12/29. I suspect that all Visa / Mastercard / EFTPOS cards must have this type of expiry date set on the card when the card is created, not when it is activated.

Ultimate eGift Cards do not have this problem, because when you order an Ultimate eGift Card from Amazon AU or Giftz.com.au (as an example), it is created shortly after the purchase is approved, so the expiry date for the available balance and card-not-present transactions and adding to a mobile wallet is all three years from the date of issue.

                      • @WookieMonster: I guess 3 years for the chip/bar code on the card and by 12/29 for online. Kinda make sense now

  • -1

When a JB HiFi store doesn't the product in stock, can you still pay for it and choose to pickup from a distribution centre? In order to use multiple TCN gift cards?

Or can only choose click and collect from distribution centre when ordering online? Which means limited to one TCN gift card.

    • +1

FYI, you cannot directly redeem any of the TCN gift cards in this deal on the JB Hi-Fi online store, because these TCN gift cards are EFTPOS gift cards.

However, you exchange a TCN gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card, which you can currently do through the TCN website. You can then redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards in one online transaction.

      • +1

Thanks for that, but this page says:

Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards issued by JB HiFi

It's in: FAQs > Using the Card > I tried to swap my gift card for an e-gift voucher but the transaction failed.

        • If you were wondering what the quote refers, it refers to the situation where you go into a physical JB Hi-Fi store and try to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using the physical TCN gift card as a payment method.

AFAIK, there is nothing in the checkout system to automatically stop you from doing this, but if a staff member realises what are you trying to do (and care enough to stop you), they can stop you.

      • +1

All good, just saw your comment with steps.

  • So can these be purchased for JB HIFI? That’s like 10% off an iPhone!

    • +2

Read the post description, JB is one of the participating retailers for the Teen card.

  • if i need a xbox gift card, is this deal not suitable? As i read in the faqs that “Physical TCN gift cards are EFTPOS gift cards, so they cannot be used for any online transactions.”
how about the next paragraph “TCN operates a digital gift card exchange facility”, is that the way?

    help appreciated!

    • +1

how about the next paragraph “TCN operates a digital gift card exchange facility”, is that the way?

      Yes.

The TCN gift card website features a gift card exchange facility, where you can exchange part or all of the available balance of a TCN gift card for a participating retailer's digital gift card. However, not all participating retailers participate in the portal. The webpage for the TCN gift card will show a list of retailers that participate in the gift card exchange portal.

The way you access the gift card exchange portal is outlined below:

      • Go to the webpage for the TCN gift card you have (e.g. TEEN gift card)
      • Scroll down to the How To Use section
      • Enter the gift card number into the box and select Continue (where required - for example, this is required for the TEEN gift card)
      • Choose the desired participating retailer from the dropdown list
      • Click/tap on the Online button to the right of the box or dropdown list (only required for participating retailers that permit TCN gift cards to be redeem in-store as well)
      • Click/tap on Proceed
      • Follow the subsequent steps to have the digital gift card emailed to you.
  • Shit cards this time round

  • Price match + perks + 15% off gift cards (ultimate used to buy JB gift cards online) has been pleasant. These wouldn't be as easy to convert to JB gift cards though.

    • Where did you go to change your Ultimate Gift Cards to JB gift cards?

      • I used the Ultimate to buy them online from the JB hifi website. They couldn't be swapped.

        • Oh i tried that in December using ultimate Home gift cards and I could not swap.

          I guess things change.

  • Do JB gift cards ever come on sale? The best I seen is ShopBack @ 2.5% CB!

    • +2

Why do you need JB cards when you can get these or the ultimate cards for 15% off? Much better value!

      • The only time I saw 15% off TNC was at Coles during Christmas, walked in 3 times, and got nothing. Plenty of 10% off TNC was on shelves at WW 2 weeks ago though quite off the time

        • Ultimate gcs went on sale twice at 15% off from Aus Post as well as Coles.

          • @thousandsuns: Yea remembered that one now like 8 am in the morning on the AU Post website. I missed that though and saw sold out a few hours later. Ohh and was a 20% off from Qantas store too but required Points

            • @Bii: I cashed in. Had about $4k worth from all the sales and bought an Alienware PC and monitor. Happy days!

      • How long ago was that?

        • Too late now, you'll be waiting until December. 10% is a pretty good deal in the meantime.

  • Cinemas card good for Tuesday half price movie, especially 4DX

    • Better discounts sometimes available direct from Event though, such as 20% off their cards prior to Christmas.

Also worth noting ShopBack usually sell these with 8% cashback. (they are not currently but will be again soon)

      • Oh really… I still have some of my cinemas gc, not sure wants to buy more or not

    • 4DX? I guess you have to go to a specific cinema for this right? I check and the one nearest to me (in Victoria) is the Glen Waverley one, which is still pretty far.

      • +1

Yep specific cinema and specific time for additional 50% off in 4DX

  • Can the Good Food Gift Card be used as the Restaurant Choice Gift Card? Basically at any restaurant with an EFPTOS machine?

    • +1

No, they have a limited list.

  • Any suggestions for Anaconda?

    • +1

Anaconda does not participate in the TCN gift card scheme.

Anaconda participates in the Ultimate gift card scheme on the following gift card types:

      • Active & Wellness
      • Everyone
      • Her
      • Him

However, there are no current or upcoming deals covering these particular Ultimate gift cards… although a couple of discounted gift card portals sell some of the aforementioned Ultimate gift cards at a discount everyday.

As an aside, Anaconda will accept Ultimate gift cards in their physical stores, but it will not accept Ultimate gift cards as a payment method on their online store. However, you can exchange an Ultimate gift card for an Anaconda (digital) gift card through the Ultimate gift card website, so that should give you some flexibility. I don't know what the maximum number of Anaconda gift cards you can redeem in one online transaction is though…

  • Buy the teen cards.

Price match the switch OLED with Amazon at JB hi-fi bringing the switch to $485.

    Use a perks voucher. $485 - $10 = $475.

    Pay with GCs. $475 - 10% = $427.50.

    Will this work?

  • +1

Bugger! Still waiting for TCN Restaurant gift cards. Have another dinner coming up and would like to save a few bucks on my bill.

Anyone notice that the TCN Restaurant card have been excluded a few times from the TCN sales (both Coles and Woolies)

    • I have been waiting for this too but I don't think they will give 10% discount off, probably only 20x EDR points

    • Is there any list of which restaurants accepting this TCN restaurant gift card? Will have friends of mine coming and want to give this as a gift.

      • No list for TCN restaurant, you can use it in the restaurant, fast food, and bar as well. I'm not sure about cafe or cafe with bakery

        • Thank you!

Thought I need to check first before hunting for this gift card. Had awkward situations when I condifently showing the giftcard and the cashier said, "oh, we didnt accept that here"

          • @Lomax: make sure you inform the friend of your that TCN Restaurant can be swapped to a digital card https://cms.thecardnetwork.com.au/swapform/f087b7f67e556cc5f… ., and you can also use The Restaurant Choice EFTPOS or digital card, both working the same, keep in mind that EFTPOS card can't be used for online order, you can't swap The Restaurant Choice eftpost to digital card

  • Is there likely to be enough stock of these or do they sell out very quickly? 10% off at JB is a pretty awesome deal!

    • Is there likely to be enough stock of these or do they sell out very quickly?

It is hard to tell. I think it depends on where you are located.

      • If you are visiting a Woolworths in a larger city (including CBD stores), there is a good chance the TEEN gift card will sell out at some points during the deal.

      • If you are visiting a Woolworths in a more rural/regional area, it is less likely to sell out.

Depending on the store and area you are at, it is up to either store staff or a “visitor” (i.e. someone employed/contracted by a gift card distributor) to replenish stock on the gift card shelf, and it is anyone’s guess how often the gift card shelf is replenished at your local stores.

The one factor to keep in mind is that the TCN TEEN gift cards are only sold in $30 and $50 denominations at Woolworths, which is inconvenient for people who want to use TCN gift cards in a high-value transaction (e.g. pay for a new MacBook Pro, new TV). There is nothing in the instore checkout system to stop someone from redeeming 81 TCN (or Ultimate) gift cards, but it is a massive hassle to carry around and redeem a massive number of gift cards, and not everyone is prepared to do that.

10% off at JB is a pretty awesome deal!

I would call it a good deal.

I think 15% off at JB Hi-Fi is a pretty awesome deal… but it is also a very infrequent deal, so I guess you should take what you can get in terms of discounts!

      • +1

Thank you so much for the reply :) Just wanted to buy the new iPhone and it’s good to know that I’ll be carrying at least 28 of the teen gift cards :)

  • With all the hassle of cards, it would have to be 15% or no deal..

  • I thought the Teen cards had EB Games as a retailer… did they get removed?

    • +1

I do not recall the TCN TEEN gift card ever featuring EB Games.

Are you confusing the TCN TEEN gift card with the Ultimate Teens gift card? That gift card has featured EB Games for a long time.

      • +1

Ah, that would be it. Thanks!

  • Does anyone know if Adore Beauty lets you combine a coupon with a gift card?

  • still hunting for eBay 10% giftcards…

  • some teen gift cards dont include JB hifi, I purchased a few today and the ones with 12 brand logos at the front cant be redeemed for jb hifi, the ones that have 28 logos have the option to redeem for jb hifi

    • For the TEEN gift cards that do not include JB Hi-Fi, does the card number start with 5021 2510 273, or does it start with something else?

      • they start with 5021 2510 262, jb hifi is still printed at the front of the card but I dont have the option to redeem it

        • Uh oh.

I don’t instantly recognise 262 (and I’m not travelling to a Coles or Woolworths at this late hour to try and figure out which TCN gift card that should correspond to), but my gut reaction is that another batch of gift cards have been printed with the wrong TCN gift card branding.

Does the list of participating retailers you see for the 262 gift cards match a different type of TCN gift card?

I’ll try to test my theory out when I pass through a Coles or Woolworths or BIG W sometime tomorrow.

Is there also a MM/YY printed somewhere on the packaging or gift card itself to indicate when the 262 gift cards were likely manufactured?

Additionally, what does the purchase / activation receipts for the 262 gift cards say in regards to the type of TCN gift card you purchased?

          • +1

@WookieMonster: reciept says the teens card, I think it has the wrong branding but I can't figure out which one it is. I'll give them a call and see what they can do

            • @onyxx: I had a look at both Coles and Woolworths today, and I could not find a TCN gift card using 262, so the mystery deepens…

Hopefully TCN is able (and willing) to help you!

              • +1

@WookieMonster: They didn't say what the issue is but they said I need to send them photos of the cards and the receipt and they will swap them to JB-HIFI manually

  • Noooo… my hidden stash got raided!

  • @WookieMonster

Quick question, how long is the exchange process from TEEN to JB Hi-Fi GCs?

    • +1

After you submit the exchange request, the JB Hi-Fi gift cards should be emailed to you within a couple of minutes.

      • +1

        Alright cool.
        Thanks for the quick response!

      • Also, can these cards be used instantly like the Ultimate cards or do I have to wait for 24hrs?

Also no 262 cards at my woolies either

        • +1

You should be able to use the TCN gift cards in this deal instantly, as they should be activated as soon as the purchase transaction has been finalised.

  • There are only $50 & $30 teen cards i could find. Were there any $100 teen cards for this deal or was I too late.

    • Woolworths does not sell $100 TCN TEEN gift cards.

I don’t even know whether $100 physical TCN TEEN gift cards are even sold through other third-party retailers (e.g. BIG W, Coles), as I have never ever seen $100 physical TCN TEEN gift cards sold in a physical store.

      • +1

Ahhh ok that explains it thanks. So in order for me to buy an iphone 14 pro max 256gb with this i will need to pick up 42x $50 teen gift cards hahah, RIP me.

        • Unfortunately, you’re correct. You’d still be a long way off the OzBargain record though…

Whether this deal is worth the hassle of finding, purchasing and redeeming 42x $50 TEEN gift cards is up to you!

  • This is a rookie question, but I have a series of Ultimate Home and TCN Gift/Home/Kids/Teen that I want to use at JB for an apple purchase. Can I convert them all to JB egift cards and use online or do I need to go instore? Thanks

    • +2

      Ultimate gift cards

If you have the Visa version, you do not have to exchange it for a JB Hi-Fi gift card if you only plan to use 1x Ultimate Home gift card in the online transaction. However, if you want to use multiple, you must “convert” them into JB Hi-Fi gift cards first. You can do this either through the JB Hi-Fi website or through a JB Hi-Fi store; some tips are here.

I will note that Riskified (the transaction risk management tool used by JB Hi-Fi) usually flags a second or third attempt to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using an Ultimate gift card in a given day, so you may find it easier to simply go instore to do this.

If you opt to go instore, I would suggest adding the gift card to a mobile wallet first and then use it like any other Visa card added stored on a mobile wallet; I find that some staff get very suspect of you if they see you swipe a card when purchasing a gift card, as that usually indicates you are using a gift card to purchase a gift card, and some staff will not let customers do this.

If you have the older EFTPOS version, you must go instore and use it to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card. Cross your fingers and hope that staff do not pick up on what you are trying to do!

      Physical TCN gift cards

If you want to use them for an online purchase at JB Hi-Fi, you must go to the TCN website and exchange it for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card. The instructions are here, just in case you missed them.

      • +1

Thanks so much, that is a very detailed response!

  • @WookieMonster Hey Wookie, on the TEEN TCN website, it states JB HI FI is participating retailer with the option of online purchases. Does this mean I can go on JB HI website and buy a $500 digital gift card in 1 transaction with 10 x $50 teen gift cards? Thanks in adance!

    • +1

      No.

Online in the context of physical TCN gift cards is a bit of a misnomer, as it does not refer to directly using physical TCN gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website (which is impossible, as physical TCN gift cards operate on the EFTPOS network, and EFTPOS does not support online transactions). Online instead refers to exchanging the balance of a physical TCN gift card through TCN’s website for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card. Have a look at this comment on how to exchange your TCN gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card.

When exchanging a TCN gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card through the TCN website, you can only exchange one TCN gift card at a time, which means that you cannot consolidate 10x $50 TCN gift cards into 1x $500 JB Hi-Fi gift card (as an example).

      • +1

        Thanks for the explanation.

Lets say after I exchange all my $500 worth of TCN to 10 x $50 JB HI gift cards.

Is it possible I can purchase a $500 JB HI gift card with 10 x JB HI cards via online?

Or do JB HI 5 online have a limit on how many gift cards can be used in a single transaction?
