Just thought I'd run a Poll to see if OzBargain is predominately Male or Female. Every time there is a Lingerie or Female Sanitary deal they are littered with jokes (which is hilarious) So I've come to the conclusion that its mainly male. So I thought to myself.. Lets find out!

Google can determine your demographics by looking at your web history. Fortunately, you can opt out of that by going into your personal preferences in your google account and using a plugin.

Google's guesses also pretty much match what we have on Facebook Insight (taking from the stats of who have Liked OzBargain on Facebook)

I bet you the majority of people actually SPEND MORE than they save because of OzBargain.
Impulse buying is widely evident and also people buy stuff they don't need and wouldn't normally buy—because of the hype and other's buying habits.
How many times have you heard the comment "got one" or similar. It's normal human psyche that others will follow suit in many cases 'cos they don't want to be the ones "left out".
Just my observations after reading tens of thousands of comments over a 3-and-a-half year period.
Could be wrong though, it's a fairly subjective topic.
I used to impulse buy as well. After running OzBargain for 5 and half years, I just go "meh, there's going to be a better deal soon" whenever I spotted yet another deal floated to the front page.
While I agree that people do impulse buy on ozbargain, I know that I have learnt to control myself when it comes to actually buying the deal. I think the last deal I used here was to buy a PS3(amazon.de) and I don't remember buying anything before for at least 2-3 months.

LOL, so true, I think I end up saving money 'cos I actually never end up buying the item—a vicious circle of waiting for the next price drop. :)

Ahhh jv jv jv.. The whole point of this 'Census' was because of those comments I was curious to see what the Male vs Female demographic was, hence me using one as a joke.

MC, you've been an OzB user now for more than 4 years and hadn't worked out beforehand that OzB is male dominated?
I've been a user for over 3 years now and don't need a poll, Google or Facebook stats to work that one out.
Anyhow, not sure what difference it makes percentage wise for anyone to know how many males/females visit OzB, but thanks for running the poll anyway, it confirmed my suspicion it's roughly 2/3rds male and 1/3rd female.

What if one sex likes answering polls more than the other?
Do you know that you can actually go to your Settings page, click on "Profile" and fill in some basic information about yourself, including "Gender"?
So far for ~2,500 users who have edited their Profile page:
35.4% are not telling
Maybe that belong to group 50-50 :)

I'm surprised it is that high for females. I thought there was only a handful of us ladies on here.
It's only a poll after all, so don't read too much into it. How accurate it is, who knows?
You'd be be surprised how many idiots there are on here that will deliberately vote the very opposite way to skew the results.
Then again, girls are more often than not the sex in the household trying to balance the budget.
Hello - new lady here not long joined and would be very glad of any sanitary deals - lol.
i'm pretty sure most have free samples available on their website.
in all honesty, i thought it would be a sausage fest here (95% male), i'm pretty happy with 70%!
I'm guessing 7 males :2 females will be the end result.
