Hmmm I wonder when the best time is to pull the trigger.

Everyone else looking for GPUs are you waiting till mid year, eoy, 2024?

    • +41

The best time is when you need it

My voodoo 2 GFX card and soundblaster 3D agrees with you. Those cards were the best

          • -1

            @maulmonk: 20 years ago a voodoo 2 seems like a garbage buy, I think i had a ti4600 by then.

          • +1

@maulmonk: My 1992 Tseng Labs ET4000W32p VESA Local Bus wants a word. :-P

            • @hammo: haha. I was going to quote the ET4000 as well.

If only I could remember what EGA card I had in my first 286 AT.

              • @Maz78: SuperEGA with NEC Multisync FTW!

    • If trends continue theyre only getting more bloated and over priced. Technology is in a good place atleast. Buy when you need

    • +1

Great time to buy used if you can stomach the risk, I got a 3070Ti strix for $750

      • +6

That sounds really expensive. I get that you have a top version of 3070 Ti but brand new were floating around $800.

        • +1

          Can you link?

          • @doobey1231: Maybe during release if you were able to preorder one. I preordered an EVGA RTX 3080 during launch and got it after a month of waiting for $1280 brand new. Shortly after that they skyrocketed up to $1800+.

          • +1

            @doobey1231: $739 for a cheapie - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/729128

@HeXa: A two fan galax is hardly a comparison to a ROG strix OC though..

        My 3080 was $700…

    • -2

Wait for the next crypto boom

      • Lol its gone bro. Even if it booms the only crypto that could benefit GPU mining (and give us a decent profit) was ETH and its turned POS (proof of stake). None of the other GPU-mineable coins come close to profitability yet. Never say never but the chances are very very very slim. And thats good for crypto and for us gamers!

    • +7

Best time to purchase this gpu is when NVidia and AMD Stocks start plummeting.
Just as these 2 start to cup their hands for gov bailouts, you rock up, pull your yoga pants down and sh!t in their open hands.

    • With MW2 included, you're paying around $290 for a 3070 equivalent.

      • +1

Nothing I've read calls this a 3070 equiv.
        3060ti, yes

        • +1

Yeh you're right actually. My mistake

    • I guess the 4070 non ti could be decent whenever that drops. People not buying supply hopefully means they lower price. Or maybe 4060/4060 Ti at least cause its on samsung 8nm still.

  • +1

    this or 6600xt ?

    • +2

what price is the 6600 XT
      https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
according to tomshardware 6600 XT is 4.5% faster in 1080p ultra and 0.2% slower in 1440p utra, also 6600 XT is definitely more stable than this so if you want to deal with less headaches probably the 6600 XT but if your willing to go through the higher chance of issues a750 is what you want

      • +2

That was with launch drivers too, current drives are already quite stable and there is a lot of room for performance gain within the next year, I’d argue this is the much better purchase

      • according to techpowerup the 6600XT is 20% faster then intel A750

        https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/arc-a750.c3929

    • +7

      I'd be going for a used 6600 XT, routinely available sub $300 e.g. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234847948627?chn=ps&_ul=AU&norov…

Yes, some will be ex mining cards, but worth the (low) risk for that kind of price IMO, especially when TechPowerUp puts the A750 at a whopping 20% less performant: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/arc-a750.c3929

      • +2

Interesting to consider that the 6600xt would have been mined on for at most ~10 or 11 months, probably only ~6 or 7 months on average at a guess.

      • +1

You legend, your ebay link got me onto looking into other alternative 6600XT's, and I've just won one for a poultry $217.

Thank you for the steer, . Had been waiting and procrastinating for years, before the first silicon chip shortage (managed to find a gtx1050 2GB), the first bitcoin mining boom and second silicon chip shortage and 2nd mining boom, then pre&post Covid shortage. TILL TODAY.

        • +2

Absolute steal for $217 - happy gaming!

        • +1

          for a poultry $217.

          Nobody calls me chicken.

  • +1

Nice, gpus finally normally priced again

    • +5

Pretty much only Intel GPUs are this cheap. 3060s are still going for ~$600, and thats only a mid-range card

      • 3060s have been $400-$500 on sale over the last half year or so. I bought mine for $499 months ago (an ASUS KO too which is theoretically a better quality 3060).

  • This is very tempting.
I need a GPU for a new build, and was looking at an RX 6600, but that's $339 (with shipping from Shopping Express, or pick up from Umart or MSY).
This is only $30, and if it comes with MW2 (is that not only for Intel's own LE cards though?), then it's a tough decision!

  • Not sure how this model reviews. Might be better off with the reference A750 for $20 more

    • +2

I'd cough up the extra just for the nicer reference design.

  • +1

I'm not knowledgable enough to comment on the GPU, but I can definitively say that MW2 doesn't make this deal any sweeter. Game is still an unfinished, mostly unfun mess.

    • +6

Got given it as a present.
Spawn killing is rife, that problem was solved a decade ago. If you die after throwing a grenade, that grenade won't activate and you would've died for nothing. It forces you to accept terms against swearing on online chat (yes, they listen and monitor you). One of THE WORST user interfaces I've seen on a game. You're not allowed to just play the game, they pester you to buy a season pass, online credit for in-app purchases, and then persuade you to download different CoD games and modes which require hundreds of GBs. Progession of weapons takes 3-5 business days.

Did I mention to unlock a weapon, you have to upgrade another weapon, and when you do unlock it, you need to upgrade it, but certain upgrades unlock empty elements, and to unlock the attachment you have to upgrade a completely different weapon, and that other weapon is locked and to be unlocked it requires you to… … … …

(profanity) this monetisation bullshit. I don’t play Overwatch as much due to the monetisation.

Glad I didn’t plonk any money down for COD.

  • -3

Intel Arc is like in Beta stages with their GPUs. Not sure why you would buy it to be a guinea pig.

    • +8

The more people use them the better the chances of the next versions being better (hopefully).

At this price it seems to be a decent option for low-gaming builds like an office PC or lounge movie box/NAS; sell the game key for $70 if you don't want to play it

      • +2

I see where you're coming from but there's no guarantee. It all depends on the Intel GPU team and not so much the customers.

If i wanted a stable gaming experience and this price point, I'd rather go search the second hand market for NVIDIA gpus.

      • +1

        EXACTLY.
Also don’t forget a variant of this will be replacing the iris in some CPUs in the near future which will be absolutely amazing.

      • +2

Since most of the issues are software, it won't even be the next version. These will get better over time

    • +5

Haven’t seen any major bugs with 2 weeks of use across windows/Linux, no game crashes yet too

    • +6

The more people buy it, the more it'll convince Intel to invest more on another generation. Competition for AMD and Nvidia can only mean good things for us consumers

      • exactly, can you guys please buy more Intel GPUs so that my 5090 will cost less in future 😎🤌

    • -6

Gotta love how people down vote you for telling the truth. Maybe not guinea pigs but beta testers for sure.
They dont even have native directx 9 support and have to use an emulator.
Id LOVE people to buy this so Intel have a reason to continue and make something awesome (we seriously need a third player in the market), but right now I couldnt suggest this to anyone.

      • +4

You get to experience the downvoting first hand

        • Hahahahahaha, like I care ;P
I said the truth, if people dont like it they are free to cry as much as they like.

          • +2

@PAEz: You quite obviously have no idea what you’re talking about, dxvk improves performance over native amd dx9/10/11 drivers a lot of the time on their cards too, is Radeon a Guinea pig product too? Is there any need to waste dev resources when dxvk runs extremely well and old games often run at extremely high fps anyways? Plus in newer dx12 games this quite often beats the 3060/6600xt by an insignificant margin.

            • -2

@Kazusa: Everything Ive seen has shown the emulation to be up and down. You say yourself "a lot of the time", not all of the time.
Personally Id rather something mature and proven than some new unfinished thing that cant afford to cover the whole spectrum and so has to take short cuts in certain areas. This is the reason I couldnt recommend it to anyone. Yes, in some cases you might get better performance, but it is guaranteed you wont in others.
              Also….
              Online multi-player games

Manipulation of Direct3D libraries in multi-player games may be considered cheating and can get your account banned. This may also apply to single-player games with an embedded or dedicated multiplayer portion. Use at your own risk.
…as quoted from the dxvk github page…..have no idea if that is actually an issue but it just goes to add to the thing of a mature fully developed driver compared to one taking short cuts and having to rely on other peoples work and expertise.

Is there any need to waste dev resources when dxvk runs extremely well and old games often run at extremely high fps anyways?

Yes, for a FULL, fully optimized, maximum performance, hassle free, working experience.

              • +2

@PAEz: Care to link those reviews with arc and dxvk, also care to link someone being banned for using dxvk?

  • Does this work with AMD cpus or does Intel gimp it somehow.

    • +3

Works with either but make sure your rig has resizable bar

      • I have a Ryzen 5 5600X and Intel Arc 750. Mainboard is Asus TUF Gaming X570 Pro running the latest BIOS. Resizable BAR is turned on in the BIOS but the Intel Driver & Support Assistant software shows "Resizable BAR is not supported by the system firmware (BIOS)."

GPU-Z says Resizable BAR = Enabled

So I'm not really sure if it's working or not… I haven't played a lot of games since putting the new card in but the games I have played have all looked fine even at max graphic settings.

  • -6

The game is $100, this is a pretty good deal. Redeem the game then refund the GPU?

    • +5

You're willing to commit fraud just to get a free videogame ?

      • +2

Being a good citizen? Maybe not entirely. But how is that fraud?

      • Reading the tons of people here looking at how to "quit a mobile plan" just to get that cheaper iPhone, i find see the differences between this and that..

  • Would this be an upgrade from a 980Tie?

  • This design would make it so easy to repaste.
Loving how the large cooler overhangs that piddly little pcb.

  • Is it a good idea to use this as an egpu with the i5 1240p?

    • Since egpu bandwidth ultimately gets rooted due to the capacity of the connection (usually TB3 or TB4) you'll get slightly gimped performance compared to if you were to plug it into a motherboard.

It depends on your needs I guess. I'm still shopping for a sub $500 GPU for my razer core X, and am leaning toward a RX6700 10GB currently… This isn't far that behind though, so just depends how much performance you need.

Edit: I also have a laptop with an i5 1240p

    • Just check to make sure your eGPU supports resizable BAR. Intel GPU get gimped if they don’t have it.

      • Thanks, I decided to go for the 3060 instead since i was planning to play older titles and this card isnt good for that.

  • talk about inflation! $369 for the latest COD!

    • +2

$369 for the game plus a free GPU

  • would this be an upgrade from gtx 1060…
haven't kept track of GPU for years…

    • Yep

    • +1

Make sure your motherboard support it. I just made the mistake of buying without checking :(…

  • I buy one to support Intel, competition is good for price wars.

    • These are billion dollar companies. Buy if you want to use it. If you don't buy they will need to make improvements in future which is a win-win.

      • +1

or they might drop the project if no one buys

  • -3

I have a Riva TNT2 Ultra and can play Doom 2 at maximum settings. Is this intel Arc card going to be an upgrade if I replace my Riva?

  • 1 x HDMI™ 2.1 (the HDMI connector which is closest to the PCB’s golden finger)

any idea what this means? -> PCB’s golden finger

    • golden = middle in this scenario

  • -3

The Arc 750 has higher FPS than the 6700XT - I wonder if AMD will ever catch up?

    • What's your source?

      • he read it in a fiarytale either that or he simply made it up
