What Subscriptions Are You Signed up to? Which Ones Do You Think Are Worth It?

Just curious what kind of subscriptions people are signed up to.

I myself am subscribed to a couple of streaming services and Audible, but am considering signing up for a Masterclass subscription and ditching one of the other ones.

I would create a poll but since you can't select multiple options here's a list of potential subscriptions people might be signed up to:

  • Streaming (e.g. Netflix, Stan, Paramount+, Disney+)
  • Audiobook (e.g. Audible)
  • Gift Box (e.g. Sakuraco, Lootcrate)
  • Fitness (e.g. Gym, Centr, Peloton)
  • Coffee (e.g. Coffee on Cue, Allways Coffee)
  • Toilet paper (e.g. Spacewhite, Ecocheeks)
  • Underwear (e.g. Knobby)
  • Vehicle (e.g. HelloCars, CarBar)
  • Magazine (e.g. Money Magazine, Men's Health)
  • Wine (e.g. Wine Selectors, Naked Wines)
  • Food (e.g. Hello Fresh, Lite N' Easy)
  • Porn (e.g OzBargain Pornhub Shared Family (no incest) Subscription)

Personally I reckon Amazon Prime is worth it, Audible is sort of worth it and Disney+ could be ceased.

What subscriptions are you signed up to? Which ones do you think are worth the money? Any interesting ones that you look forward to getting each month?

    • Flickr - this was the best photo backup facility when we first used it and have all our photos there.

So do you just host your photos on there for friends and extended family to look at/download?

  • +1

Out of the subscriptions I have I reckon the most used/best value are:

    • Amazon Prime
    • Spotify
    • PS Plus Deluxe
  • +1

Youtube Premium family - for music
MS 365 HUP - productivity, I have this at a great price yearly sub.

That's it. The rest can get stuffed.

  • +1

    That I paid for? None.

I have an ebay plus sub I got for a year for free. If I have to pay to renew I will cancel. I use a shared amazon plus account I dont pay for & if I had to pay I would go without.

    Subscription models are garbage.

Thanks guys, just canned half of the shit I don’t need.

  • +1
    • NBA league pass (Turkey)
    • Tidal (Argentina)
    • MLB.TV - get a code each year so it is free
    • Prime - use it all the time for shopping
    • Kayo - free for a year with my credit card - won't renew
    • How do you get mlb for free each yeah?

      • +1

at the beginning of each season for a week or so there is a T-Mobile Tuesday that enables those with t-mobile connections in the US to have 10 or so free mlb.tv codes.

They can give them away for free, or sell them for about 5-10$ usd in giftcards

next year google when t-mobile tuesday is and go here https://www.reddit.com/r/TMobileTuesdays

        • Great thanks for sharing

  • +1

Not that many until I start to think about it…

    Spotify family ($3 pp)
    Stan (ozb shared)
    Kayo (ozb shared)
Optus Sport (through Optus mobile contract)
    Ring
IDrive (online backup mainly for photo server)
Playstation whatever the lower level one is
    Seedbox
    Apple cloud (simplest iPhone backup)
    Local pool (work pays)

I don't really have any intention of changing the list, probably less than $1k/year for the above so not exactly life changing money but lots of value / entertainment / peace of mind for the price paid.

  • YouTube Premium (India I think)
    Amazon Prime yearly plan

Didn't know they had a subscription service. Is it worth it?

      • I think what I am doing with this subscription, it's a little bit embarrassing! I siged up with a course around 22 months ago, which was supposed to be for 4/5months. I haven't finished the course yet and everytime i think to cancel it, i convince myself this time i will finish it. I am paying $50 every month :(

  • Amazon prime
    Netflix

  • TV - Netflix, Disney+

With VPN, don't need other tv subs. Netflix/Disney just for kids.

Have cut back a lot recently:
    Netflix (shared)
Kayo (shared, but never paid full price for it).
    Amazon Prime
    Spotify

    Plex for everything else now.

  • +1

    Consistently:

    • Apple Music - worth it
    • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate - worth it
    • PlayStation Plus (Deluxe) - not worth it
    • Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass - not worth it

    On and off:

    • Amazon Prime - worth it
    • eBay Plus - worth it (for latest selling deals)

To elaborate on the gaming subs: Xbox Game Pass really blows the other two out of the water. Mainly because Microsoft are releasing all of their new first party titles for free on the service. Meanwhile the only good game that I’ve played free on PlayStation Plus is ‘Stray’ and I can’t think of anything else. I don’t think I’ll be re-subscribing to PlayStation Plus, or at least certainly not the ‘Deluxe’ tier.

  • Xbox Live - when I want to play online with a friend. sometimes Ultimate. I don't play that often anymore so just renew when I need for a month here and there. Usually get for free with Rewards.

I pay Amazon Prime but it's the cheapest. I use it a lot for free shipping and some shows.

Friends accounts I access for free:
    Disney+
    Stan
    Netflix
    Spotify

Just finished a trial of Binge and AMC+ over the xmas break.

  • Amazon Prime
    Turkish Google One
    Random internet Spotify family

  • +2

Happy to say, absolutely nothing from that list lol

    • +1

      That is actually impressive haha.

So you have absolutely no subscriptions? Not sure if I would count mobile phone as some people have mentioned.

      • Nope nothing on that list. Have a phone, but that wasn't on the list.

I wouldn't really say impressive. Quite easy. Fitted out our 3 car garage with a full gym, no need for memberships. All viewables can be streamed for free lol. No food subscriptions or pet/clothing subscriptions. Don't drink coffee. Only have alcohol probably 3 times a year, so no subs for that. Magazines definitely not.

  • +2

    Do I get a badge and/or trophy for 15 subscriptions?…

    Amazon Prime (obviously great value)
    Netflix Premium (Turkey)
Disney Plus (overpriced so on and off)
Paramount Plus (on the fence about the value)
Youtube Premium (would get the vpn discount but I fear the Google punishing me)
Thundernews (comes with an okay VPN)
Nzbsu (geolocation restrictions can suck it)
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (signed up for peanuts… and now RRP seems worthwhile)
PSN Plus Extra (signed up annually for RRP… probably should have gone monthly)
Humble Choice (skip any month makes it great value)
    TPG Mobile ($1/month deal)
iDrive (hopefully bargain backups don't cost me in the long run)
Amazon Photos (… just in case they don't)
    Woolworths Delivery
Gym Meals Direct (is both great flavour and quantity but only for us Canberrans)

Cancelled or paused in last 12 months:
Audible (but will be reactivating for $1/mon for 2 month deal)
    Youfoodz
    Deliveroo Plus (trial)
    Doordash (trial)

    • Do I get a badge and/or trophy for 15 subscriptions?…

      No, but take an upvote.

Good to see a mention of a subscription service that is a bit unusual, most comments seem to be streaming and software related.

  • +2

    Long Term:
Amazon Prime (Deliveries + The grand tour)
    YouTube Premium (Family Plan)
    Spotify (Family Plan)
Google One (100GB, for emails + drive)
    MS 365 (2TB storage + office)
    Udemy (Rust/Laravel/.NET at the moment)
Jetbrains all products + a few plugins (Laravel IDEA, Material Theme)
    Gym
    Discord Nitro
    ExitLag
    NordVPN
    GitHub Copilot
    VentraIP Web Hosting + Domains
Woolworths Delivery Unlimited (do a $50+ shop once a week, definitely worth the time saved)

    Sometimes:
Disney+ (for a month every few months to catch up on marvel)
Audible (When I get a month or 3 for $1)

    Services:
    Phone
Main number on Amaysim 55GB for $30 a mo
Work number on Amaysim calls and text $60 a year
    Internet
Future Broadband 6mo prepay $126 MO for 1000/50 on HFC
    Power
    Diamond Energy (I think)
    Gas:
    AGL

    E: forgot woolies delivery

    • +1

I'm working on IT too and liking this list, esp WW delivery- def worth it. Also just bought Amaysim 60GB $99 1 year plan with international calls as well.
Curious why don't you use one storage instead of 2(Google One and MS 365)?

      • Just got MS365 recently, might switch over but now that I have the larger cloud space will prob go email + photos on google and everything else on onedrive. Google is only $25 a year so worth keeping. Looking at spinning up some other hosting stuff maybe aws azure etc but have not decided yet.

    • +2

Additional long term that I forgot about:
      Bitdefender - AV
      Bitwarden - $10 a year cloud-saved multi-device password manager

Upgraded my github account from standard to pro

Dropping off udemy since work is now providing Udemy business

I'm definitely a fan of paying for/donating to smaller companies/individuals for software (more chance it will be around for longer).
VB audio - Cool software audio tech
      Typora - Lightweight markdown editor
      keybr.com - Touch typing practice (I didn't learn as a kid)
      etc

  • +1

Amazon Prime - worth it 100%
Youtube premium - worth it to me but I hate ads and use yt music
Crunchyroll - better value now they merged with funimation
    Playstation annual - debatable
Gym - worth it to me $18 a fortnight but no way I'm paying more than $50/mth for gym

    Occasional subs
    Disney+ - maybe 2mths/yr
    Onepass - cheaper than shipping
Hellofresh - when I have a discount offer and too busy to cook - I'm trying to teach my partner how to cook and the box lets me leave them to make a meal while reducing the risk of me being poisoned so worth it

  • Plex Share with Live TV paid by someone else.
    So, nothing.
    Oh. Amazon Prime.

  • +1

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple Music, Costco, Dropbox.

    Amazon Prime
    Microsoft 365
Woolworths Plus (I think it's called) ($7 a month and you get 10% of one shop a month at Woolworths and one at Big W).
    YouTube Premium
    Foxtel with Netflix included.
    Ebay Plus

  • +3

Recently unsubscribed from most of my subscriptions as friends have provided me with logins for the big streaming services. Still have Prime for shopping, but now paying for two entertainment subscriptions:
    - Spotify
    - The West Australian newspaper (I pay for this exclusively to troll in the comment section, hence entertainment)

    • +1

I was appalled and then in stitches. Hilarious.

      • +2

I got banned from reddit (also for trolling) and actually like OzB and its community so would rather troll elsewhere. Plus the endless shilling for Mineral Resources brings me great amusement.

  • Amazon prime
    Microsoft 365 family

    Google one (turkey)
Shared Disney plus from family member
    Local gym

  • +1

    I'm permanently signed up to:

    • Amazon Prime (yearly) - because fast free postage, bargains and occasionally watching a TV show
    • Spotify (monthly) - because it just makes music streaming easy with the smart speakers in the house
    • Discord (yearly) - because I like custom emojis and I use the platform often enough that the increased upload size is worth it for me
    • Nintendo Online (yearly) - for the Switch, because I'm a sucker and this is the only way to get save games in the cloud

Occasionally I will resubscribe temporarily to:

    • ebay plus - same as prime, especially when I have a project I'm buying bits for, the 5 dollars comes with at least a voucher of the same value so it pays for itself
    • hellofresh - always sign up on some massive discount incentiviser, always cancel it within a few months because i lose motivation to cook that often
    • xbox live - generally see a game i want to smash out for a month, but I can't justify a perpetual sub
    • Kogan/Catch - normally when i want something delivered and the monthly is cheaper than the postage/discount

I have a lifetime subscription to Plex Pass, Synergy (Symless) and Connectify Hotspot. All of these have paid for themselves since I bought them.

I have some other tech subscription ones, like office 365, domain name/hosting and some DNS providers.

  • +1

I have far too many subscribed:
    Prime (worth)
    Disney+ (worth) shared
    Netflix (worth) shared
    Paramount+ (worthless ) shared

    Hbomax (worth) shared

    eBay Plus (worthless)
    Zee5 (never again)
Microsoft Office (worth every Penny) family
    Adobe DC (not again)
Apps like Calm, InShot (worth) Turkey
    Coffee House VIP (worth)
    Uber One (never again)

    Chess.com (worth) Turkey
    Control-d (worth)
    Getflix (won’t renew)
    iCloud (cheap) Turkey
    YouTube family (worth) family India
OnePass (Bunnings etc) (worth but not used)

    Netflix, great for the family
Spotify, no ads, kids love dancing and sleep songs via Hey Google
    Amazon Prime is self-explanatory, lol
Nintendo Switch Online, I love Nintendo games, so always online, plus cloud backup
Xbox Gold, to get the monthly free games
PS Plus+, to get the monthly free games

  • +1

Amazon prime - definitely worth it!
Spotify - i'm on the fence about if i need this anymore, i only really listen to the same old music anyway, however others in my family still use it so i may keep it
nintendo online - probably going to get rid of this when it lapses, i just don't bring it to use.
Gym - its for my health, so i'd say it's worth it.
Drunkenslug & some other newshostings - If you are setup for it, and know what you're doing, well worth it
Woolworths delivery unlimited - we do our weekly shop all online, so it's worth it for us

VPN - i don't actually have a subscription for this, as i was fortunate enough to get the windscribe lifetime pass over 5 years ago and it's still going strong. However i'm still throwing this up here as when the innevitable happens that they decide to end out "lifetime" passes i'll re-sign up for a vpn

    • I find windscribe free to be too slow to use as a practical VPN. It does allow you to change location and access torrents though.

      • +1

        I'm not on windscribe free.
I'm on windscribe premium, with a lifetime subscription.

For everything I use it for the speeds are great, most of the time I don't even notice I'm using a VPN.

    • How often you use Drunkenslug /day or /week?

    • Drunkenslug & some other newshostings - If you are setup for it, and know what you're doing, well worth it

      What is this?

      • +1

Aha, if you don't know, you don't need to know.

        Otherwise, google is your friend

Who else is on Delvue Media?

    • +1

I would seriously consider a subscription if they had one.

      • I feel nearly at home with all them Mao admirers?

  • Amazon - well worth it if you shop there too

Stan+Sports - shared family plan through OzB. Worth it if you watch European footy

Optus sport- via mobile plan. Again worth it if you watch premier league.

You tube premium- The most worth it. Especially if you do the India workaround.

On off is binge Netflix paramount if there's anything decent I can't torrent/stream for free.

Nintendo plus - shared family plan via ozB.

PS plan - pick up the yearly discount one.

All of these cost me about $30 a month which is pretty good value considering full price.

  • +2

I had no idea that you could get an underwear subscription!

    I only have…

    • Humble Bundle (worth it, more games that I'll ever play)
    • A membership to Museums of history NSW. (This was worth it until a few months ago when they gave everyone free entry to all the museums).
    • wasabi.com (worth it, Can be tricky to setup if you're not technical)

In the future, I'll eventually be forced to be on Google One when my mail fills up.

Got Curiosity Stream, Nebula.tv from the deal posted here recently. I'll cancel it after 12 months.

And some monthly donations to random charities & Patreon.

Paid $109 for 3 year VPN deal - I piratebay nearly everything
except Aussie & NZ media & music content, I will always watch or listen legally however possible. I might be a cheapskate but I don't believe in ripping off our own content creators.
$10 mth for my mobile unlimited Aus calls & txts, 4 G's of data, plenty for me.
    $80 mth unlimited NBN

    free streamers via my chromecast
ABC Iview & SBS on demand both my fav go too's.
KANOPY through my local public library, some great movies etc on there.
occasionally Tubi - it's not great for streaming to my chromecast but as they say, you get what you pay for.
and even less occasionally 7, 9 & 10 catch up stations,I don't use these a lot as I can't stand all the ads, but I will put up with them for legal free Aussie content if I can't get it anywhere else.

Thinking about grabbing AMC for a month for the new Aussie vampire show Firebite, great concept and the great Aussie's involved are always on my watch list.

I have over 100 CD's & about a 1000 songs in my phone so def no need for a music streaming service.

One last thing, I pay Patreon $5 a month to listen to Wil Anderson's Wilosophy podcasts, these are free but I choose to pay to help "keep the lights on" & pay people like Podcast Mike and the rest of the team that put the podcasts together, I've listened to 100's of hours of great content, he just has convo's with people he knows and they are just fantastic to listen to https://player.whooshkaa.com/wilosophy-with-wil-anderson - not affiliated just a fan.

    Happy 2023 my fellow cheapskates

  • Im surprised nobody has mentioned Binge? I hear there is a lot of reality tv rubbish on there but they do have the WWE network on there now

    • What are the contents of it?
I used to enjoy the original network to watch random old wrestling from the 80s. I was slowly getting through 2003 raw but it's cancelled now

      • +1

Extremely limited and random. They have maybe 20-30 PPVs on there, one of them being Rock Bottom from '98 (just to give you a sense of the randomness). As if that wasn't weird enough, there's also a couple of ICW shows on there.

I think the worst part is that Binge insert their own ad breaks into programmes on the live channel.

    • It's definitely been mentioned several times, I'm reading all the comments as I left this thread for a while.

I was flirting giving Binge a go for The Wire, but nah.. I'd rather sail the high seas as they say.
