In the market…any good reviews of this from people who are experienced at using robot vacuums?

    • +4

We have an older version and it still going strong after 3 years, needed a few repairs along the way but well worth the money. We gave up with mopping as it was pretty rubbish.

  • +10

Please keep in mind that Q7 has no sonic mopping, auto mop lifting and electric water tank vs Q7 Max and S7.

    • +1

Yeah, need that scrubbing action for the mop to work properly.

    • +1

I don't think it matters, we got the S7 before Christmas and unless you wet the mop pad before each run it will stay dry for the whole run.

  • so, im confused i thought there is just one series/type of roborock now i see S, Q, and is there T ?
    Q is more budget?

    • +2

No T. Only S and Q. And yes, Q is the budget range.
Use this for your own research.

Thanks for the link - bit of a sucky website though; the feature matrix is helpful but it doesn't explain any of the advanced features of the Max. What is "sonic mopping"?! No mouseover info available.

        • Sonic mopping -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVpNyEgml74
It is a scrubbing action on the floor by vibrating the mop which is better than dragging the wet mop around. (S7 vs Q7)

          • @MaOptAus: Yeh, I figured it was something like that - I went to their US site & found more info.

I was thinking about buying one of these - they came up in a Hacker News thread a couple weeks ago. I'm a bit bemused now by all the different models & features (and their website just gives me the shits, it has a billion trackers on it & they couldn't be bothered to explain the features in the high-end models).

Kinda tempting to yolo on the cheaper model as our needs are pretty modest but now I have choice paralysis from all the different options. I might wait to see if a few more comments drift in about this particular one.

  • how is multi storey mapping and cleaning works? we create map on floor 1 and 2, then with the charging station on floor 1, we just carry the robot itself to floor 2, right? (no need the charger)

    • +4

Assuming the Q7 performs the same as the S7, indeed you are correct.
We have a 3 storey townhouse and the S7 remembers the maps for all three storeys just fine. You simply plop the robot in an open space on one of the levels, get it to start, it will do a scan of the immediate area, figure out where it's been put….and then load the map and carry on. When it's done, if there is no dock in the level it's been cleaning, the robot returns to the spot it started.
I usually plop the S7 in the same spot, and it figures out where it is usually within about 10 seconds of starting.
It's pretty impressive tech, tbh. Love our S7 so far.

      • Interesting. I have a terrace with 5 levels between bedrooms, landings and a step down into the kitchen. Is it worth something like this or is it a pain?

        • +1

I believe it saves up to 4 levels, so you may still need to do a landing manually, or at least without saving the map. ;)
We don't find it a pain to take the robot around so far. We leave it on the ground floor (with dock) during the week, and have it do a daily clean of the ground floor. On the weekend, we take the robot to the other storeys for a weekend clean. We find this combo works well so far as GF is far and away the dirtiest (entry door/shoes/kitchen/etc)

          • +5

@Jiffy: Okay - initially I did not interpret "…as GF is far and away the dirtiest…" as referring to the ground floor…. and assumed someone was about to be in a world of pain.

      • thanks! finally the real answer i have searching for. but maybe will wait for S7 i like the moving mop feature. ah… money where are you…

        • We've been impressed with the S7 mop so far….or, disgusted at how dirty we were previously (hated mopping).
We only have tile/hardwood, so the mopping feature was the seller of the S7 for us. If we had mostly carpet and less concerned with mopping, Q7 looks great.

          • @Jiffy: same we just get the timber floor a week ago no more carpet. little tiles here and there. thats it.
ok question about mop. if i want to set the robot to run twice a day for example early morning and evening, means we need to clean/wash the pad each time then ?and after wash there will be no time to wait for it to dry, can we just pop the slightly wet damp pad back ?

            • @CyberMurning: Yes, the mop pad needs cleaning after use. After washing, you can pop it back on and go again. The app and FAQ do suggest to pre-wet the mop pad for best results, which we do.

We bought a Q7 on sale for $549 a few months back. Just bought one through this deal for the mother in law. Very happy with it for vacuuming. It has a large dustbin (that makes me wonder why you would bother with the auto emptying thing). However can't vouch for the mopping as we have not bothered with that (yet).

    • Issue with robot vacuums is the filters get chocka block full after 1-2 runs. Bin might not be full but if you inspect the tiny hepa filter, it'll be full of dust like a bagless vacuum that doesn't have multiple cyclonic filters.

I usually use a barrel vacuum and vacuum the filters on my robots after every 2 runs. I guess the auto empty station would kinda be the same thing.

      • +1

Yep, the auto empty station for my s7 cleans the filter enough that I don't have to manually clean it for weeks at a time.

        • Do I understand correctly that the empty station is a separate purchase (i.e. not included with the base model)?

          • @trawg: Yep not included

      • +2

I have a 4+ year old Xiaomi that's only gone through 2 filters in that time. I put toilet paper over the filter and swap that out once a week. Vacuum pressure is probably reduced but I don't see dirt anywhere so it's doing its job and the filters last indefinately. Only have to swap them out as it sucked up water the dog spilled.

        • Good idea, i might give the toilet paper a go. Or maybe a paper tower for that added strength.

Do you put it before the spongey prefilter or after (in-between the sponge and the hepa)?

        • You can get cheap large sheet of air filter and cut them to shape. Use the correct medium. Try to breathe through toilet paper it's pretty restrictive. The brushing and roller action is what sweeps the floor but you still need a good suction where the brushes can't reach.

  • +1

Any deals for the s7 with automatic emptying station?

  • +1

Still waiting for Q7 max on sale. Anything below $650 will be awesome.

This vs Dreame D9 Max Robot Vacuum?

    • Much of a muchness from what I've read. Roborock is the more well known brand, and the app works slightly better for it (though they both use the Mi Home app). They're going to perform relatively similarly though.

      • Only 2700kpa vs 4000kpa is a big difference

  • PreciSense® LiDAR Navigation
Attaching this to my car, make my car drive on auto pilot?

    • +8

Yes it will drive around the edges very slow as it maps the road. No different to a lot of motorists on the roads.

    • LiDAR Navigation

It's amazing that a vacuum has better navigation hardware compared to a Tesla.

      • LMAO. Come on man. This thing moves very slow and has no risk to people.

        • Exactly, and yet it still has better better navigation hardware compared to a Tesla.

  • Can Dyson release a robo vacumm so I don't have to go through hours of research.

  • This or the Dreame D9 Max which is selling for the same price…

    • +3

D9 max you should be able to get for $320 on Dreams eBay store. Would save the couple hundred and go with that. Seems much the same

      • +1

Thanks I called them to cancel my order. Lookign at the Dreame L10 pro now for $599 as it has better obstacable avoidance.

        • … dreame series D and L ? any table to see the differences? most people are with D

          • @CyberMurning: The L10 Pro and Z10 Pro come with 3D object recognition so better obstacle avoidance, compared to the D9/10 which rely on LIDAR.

        • What did you go for at the end?

        • @happyadventurer how do you get L10pro for just $599 ? its 701 after discount code

          • @CyberMurning: On their website they’re offering it for $599

            • @amaneight: Looks like the Dreame L10 Pro is only USD$279 on Amazon USA. Even with currency conversion, added GST, and shipping costs, thats only around AUD$450. Have I calculated that right? Is it the same model? https://www.amazon.com/Dreametech-L10-Pro-Cleaner-Navigation…

              • @flubba86: the seller is some chinese but good rating. i dont know….

mine (choose to pay in USD with 28degree card) that usd is equal to AUD 150.xx at spot rate

                Items: AUD 408.82
                Shipping & handling: AUD 56.37
                Your Coupon Savings: -AUD 43.80

Estimated GST to be collected: AUD 42.14
                Order total: AUD 463.53
                Payment Total: USD 317.46

              • @flubba86: do you know about the warranty side if we (in AU) buy that (non amazon US seller, but ship by Amazon US) ?
                Ships from Amazon
                Sold by Penon-US

                • @CyberMurning: Nope, I don't know anything about that. I was just throwing it out there in case anyone else here knew. I didn't pull the trigger on that one because I was unsure of warranty situation. However, if I flashed it with Valetudo right out of the box, that probably voids the warranty anyway.

                  • @flubba86: yeah i think better not getting from us especially seller is not amazon

        • Check reviews on the customer service Dreame offer if that's of importance to you. From what I read (think it was on Product Review site), it was atrocious.

          • @OldKing: I did see that but I don't value product review website too much as it has legitimacy issues. Main things that made me cancel was obstacle avoidance is high importance for me as I don't want to 'prepare' my house for vacuuming. It seems the Dreame would be better due to the front sensor. This Q7 also had basic gravity water mop compared to a electric controlled one. Also this roborock has the silicone side brushes which has problems with catching on carpet. Hence the new s8 has gone back to traditional bristles. People do replace the silicone with the bristles but that design flaw made me question the product so I cancelled before they shipped it out to me so I could research some more.

I've had a entry level ecovac robot vacuum in the past and empting the dust bin was annoying after each clean. So I'm looking for a auto dust bin cleaner too.

            • @happyadventurer: L10 peo doesnt have auto empty dock.. hmm my house is small i think im okay with manual cleaning. Yeah l10pro looks good , but still like roborock s7 because of sonic mopping…

  • Bought one since I don't need mopping. I wonder if Q7 is better than my old S5.

  • Thanks Ops. I have the original Xiaomi one and still going strong. Getting this for upstairs. :)

  • I’m really wary about these things and multi level dwellings. I’m always afraid of it accidentally going over the edge of the stairs and falling, smashing itself into pieces.

How do these go with keeping itself from falling off the cliff?

    • +1

They have sensors around the bottom to help prevent them falling off edges. We've got a 3 storey townhouse and the S7 avoids falling just fine. You can also set things in the map (walls, no go zones), which can also assist in preventing a fall.
The instructions actually recommend a physical barrier across the stairs (ie a lovely tripping hazard), but reading Reddit for Roborock, it's clear nobody sets up physical gates at stairs, just for the robot.

    • I have gen1 (Lookup Roboguy saga) and it has NEVER done that.

  • Back in stock

  • is the code FFROBOT just for this item ? i tried with S7 didnt work :(

    • Yes

  • Code not working for me now. Do you know if expired?

    • nevermind it worked in Firefox :)
