Australia Post Car Insurance: 14% Cashback @ Cashrewards

540

Stacks with their $75 discount.

Not as good as the previous 15% and $100 but still a good deal.
Just did my usual quoting around big variance in the different companies/brands this year, surprised that this came in cheapest at $1088 (young driver)

Bingle renewal which has always been cheapest was middle of the pack despite 0 claims in the last year.

Underwritten by QBE.

Wow Auspost comes in almost $300 cheaper then the next cheapest (budget) for me.

    • Mine was the opposite.

    • +6

Fyi make sure its agreed value policy not market value or you will get screwed .

      • +11

        The opposite lately.
Neighbour insured his PHEV for an agreed $27k (paid $21k for it two years ago). Got t boned. Couldnt get an equivalent for less than $35k. So had to go back to a straight Petrol car. So the market was at least $35k.

        • They agreed to a poor value. Should have known better.

          • +3

@Xizor: Are you saying they should have known the cost of used cars would go up in the future??

They insured it for $6000 more than they paid for it years before! Cars for the last 30+ years have depreciated rapidly every year on year prior to this unprecedented market event.

In that case, what price will my replacement PHEV be in 2024?

Or…set it at market value and a payout figure for what the car is worth at any given time. Of course they will try and low ball rheem you first. Do your homework. Likewise. Dont expect a full payout figure for a car that has done 500 000km.

            • @tunzafun001: If you are going agreed value yes you should be making a point to keep an eye on that. I was, i had an import that had always been volatile before covid for various reasons, just setup a few mail lists on car sales etc that best matched and when it deviates beyond comfort X value then time to revise the policy or jump ship. Besides, Its been on the news quite a bit since covid so little excuse to not be aware. Sucks if caught out but its a responsibility.

        • Except if he was insured for market value they'd offer 27k anyway even if you can't replace it for that.

          • @SJDR: Then you simply say no, and ask for the correct payout. If that doesn't happen, report them to AFCA as their payout doesn't reflect the "market". Is actually very quick/ simple.

      • +3

Market value is typical higher than agreed value post Covid

      • Is market value based on redbook, or the actual price on carsales?

    • Mine was $750 yearly for agreed value of $27500 but that was 6 months ago

    • +7

Agreed. Same with me and was set at agreed value too. Key to insurance is change each year. There's no value in loyalty.

    • It's not about the raw cost.

People go for the cheapest insurance and then surprised Pikachu face when it doesn't cover anything

      • That isn't about cheap or expensive, that is about idiots that don't read the T&C's and applies equally to many of the overpriced insurance.

  • +2

$900 more yearly for my car. Doesn't hurt to check at least

  • +3

If their insurance service is as good as their main business …

    • +8

They can drop off your car on your porch without a signature after the repairs are done.

      • +2

….10 days later than it was meant to, and bent in half.

        • +1

Or they'll just hand it over to the neighbours and say 'GPS said they were at the right place'.

      • In my case they’ll always take it to the local gpo. F**kers.

    • They’ll pretend they fixed your car and dropped it off, and tell you it’s no longer their problem when you can’t find it.

  • +1

Hopefully others fare better than me. Price before cashback for me was almost $2K - over $500 more than Shannon's quote! Middle-aged male, moderately priced car, in decent neighbourhood 😥

    • What are you insuring? A Bugatti?

Or do you have a smashy and bumpy record?

      • +3

Shannon's would imply a classic, so I'm thinking the OP's definition of moderately priced is not the same as mine.

        • -1

Not necessarily, sometimes their just more lenient on what they'll take on.

Did a quote myself, 2-300 more than SGIC, 9r whatever it's called now, NRMA I think

First time I was asked about demerit points though.

      • +5

Just a tip for anyone with a smash and bumpy record CGU only asks for the last 2 years for claims history which is shorter than other companies.

      • Lol, I wish, it's a 2017 BMW diesel 5 series. I'm accident free and currently have all my license points.

        • That seems really bad on face value

    • +1

I'm paying about $1700 with RACV (I addon windscreen,.hirecar and choice of repairer).

Like for like quote with AusPost was just over $2200

      • -2

(I addon windscreen,.hirecar and choice of repairer)

        Why?

        • +4

For this comparison does it matter?

  • +2

Like previously comments, over insure excess, market value and extras. Then drop it all back over the phone and you will still get the extra cashback.

    Win win

    • huh?

      • -1

        Change the policy afterwards…

Don't know if that'll register when it comes to verifying though.

        • You'll not get the cashback doing this most likely

          • @coffeeinmyveins: I agree, I highly doubt it

Yet I get negged for saying it, and the person giving bad advice is given positives, makes sense.

    • Good thinking 99

    • +2

      from Cashrewards:

You may not be eligible for Cashback:
If a gift card is purchased or used as payment.
If a coupon code is used that is not listed on Cashrewards.
If your order is not fully completed online or is later changed.

      Who knows.

    • +2

I wouldn’t suggest this if they end up verifying against the final order amount they might decline your cashback in whole.

  • +10

Last time I had my car repaired through Australia Post Car Insurance, they sent it to Sydney, then to Brisbane, and then Perth before I finally had to go and collect it at the parcel post locker in Prahran.

    • +2

Auspost Logic: Its cheaper and faster to travel to 3 capital cities first always, because it adds magic to your car

  • Just got two quotes, one from APost and one from Budget Direct, they were 1250 and 750 respectively. So yeah, shop around, even with 14% + $75 APost was a lot more for me

  • +3

Just an FYI, I signed up under the 15% previous cashback deal and it didn't track for over 10 days.

Lodged a missing claim with Cashrewards who are currently investigating, the sticking point they are looking into it seems is a "discount" shows on the invoice - which is reference to the $75 online discount.

I relayed this info to Cashrewards that it is an automatic discount and not a "coupon" or anything that I manually added.

No response yet, but waiting to hear back.

    • +2

      @tightarse See above^

      • @tightarse my cashback did not track either via Cash Rewards.

I never have this issue with Shop Back. I always make purchases with cashback - so it is not a rookie mistake on my behalf.

I have submitted my claim and hopefully CR don't make up some excuse to reject my claim, as they have done so in the past when their system fails to track legitimate purchases.

    • +2

I hate relying on these huge cashbacks. Like the cashback from TGG, have to wait up to 90 days for them to investigate. Chances are they will not honour it.

    • +1

I have the same problem. Cashrewards say they'll contact Australia Post and it'll take anywhere from 30 to 90 days to resolve.

    • +1

Same thing happened to me but I’m not sure how to prove the payment because I only received a certificate of insurance not an invoice or receipt as such. How did you guys do it?

      • +2

The certificate of insurance PDF on the last page will show the details.

I assume Cashrewards will need the policy number as well as the amount paid.

    • +1

Following. I am in the same boat. Signed up when it was 15% and still waiting for tracking.

    • +1

Same. I signed up when discount was $100, shows on the invoice and CB was 10%

    • Same situation here, 10 days and hasn't tracked. Lodged an enquiry with CR.

  • +1

It seems really cheap, I just filled in details for my daily 2013 Ford Focus and it's $450 a year.

I think that includes the $75 discount, not cashback tho.

    • +1

Nissan Pulsar 2003. Full comprehensive for $167….$240 reducing the excess to $300. Bargain.

  • +1

My 2008 corolla austpost quoted $695 and with cash back should get it down to $597 not too bad I am currently with Woolworths insurance they give a $100 gift card when I sign up new policy each year my car ends up being around $530 and I get 10% off my groceries once a month

But austpost is backed by qbe
    Woolworths is with Hollard

  • if i select no finance its $500 less a year, wtf

    • +5

Tip. Stop using finance and you'll save $500 p/y.

  • Aw man, just renewed with Auspost 3 days ago. ;_;

  • This is incredible. I've looked into Aus Post insurance and they usually always are cheaper than any other brands. With an additional 14% off, this is great!

  • lol $200 more than Qantas insurance

    yeah - nah AP

  • Looks like you can only purchase up to 30 days in advance. My policy expires 9th March but I can’t put that as start date. Anyone know how long this cash back offer is around?

    • Mines 5 March hoping it goes on until after

  • I didn't look into the finer details, but normally cheaper means they've taken out stuff.

I recall being with SGIC, and content insurance was $500? I think most don't even include it.

So you have to really compare what you're getting, what you need etc

    • Personal contents insurance limit according to PDS is $1000

  • $4015 for a year? Far out..

    • What car are you driving?

      • Merc Glc suv
        Can’t be that high though
Stella is quoting 1400 also underwritten by QBE
Not sure if anyone got any experience with stella. Never heard about them before.

        • Go for the trifecta and quote Kogan? Maybe it will keep going down…

  • $700 more for me :l I have been comparing my insurance policy annually and found RACV consistently cheaper…

  • if i pay monthly does the cashback calculated on annual value or what?

  • I compare AP and current one with same option. No big difference both about $1,000 except cashback. so.. thinking…

  • More than double of what Aami quotes for my model 3.

  • $797 here vs Woolworths $480 and Budget Direct $520.

Worth a try, probably all my criminal convictions, fraudulent and denied insurance claims holding me back…

  • -1

Lol not Australia Post again. Gimmicks. Still the most expensive insurance.

    • -2

Even though its the most expensive insurance ever for vast majority of people here, some rando is gonna defend it even if it also doesnt suit them.

      • +4

I literally quoted 20+ insurance companies and they were the cheapest even before the cashback…
You understand everyone’s circumstances are different right?

  • Any idea how long this deal is active for ?

  • Australia Post car insurance?

Can't wait for all the posts from people who try to claim lol

  • Australia Post Car Insurance? With their reputation? Good joke

I'll wait until OzBargain Car Insurance is made available - Thanks

    • +1

Dashcam proving guilt and MS paint diagram mandatory for every claim.

      • Hahaha great idea.
They're also required to submit their claim via a thread on Ozbargain and it's up to the community as a collective to approve or decline it based on Dashcam footage and MS Paint diagram.

  • The link goes to

Sorry, we don’t have any active deals right now. We hope to bring you some soon.

  • +1

Link doesn’t work. Deal inactive for car insurance. 14% only applies to home insurance.

  • $840/year for $350k home and 50k contents.
    Lol

    • I just did home and contents with them. Suncorp was trying to renew me at $2200 for $600k and $100k. Got $1700 with AP for $800k and $100k; pre CB.
I only ever check one other insurer when any insurance renewal comes up. Figure one quote means I might avoid lazy tax and if it's not lower then I just renew.

  • I think there's something wrong with the cookie tracking. I applied for Home Insurance and it opens a different URL when you start the quote and the Chrome extension doesn't pick up the activation has happened. Might be the same with car insurance.

    • Well. There goes my theory. Cashback tracked for Home Insurance.

Have submitted claim for Car Insurance.
