How Do You Buy Your Paper Towel?

This is one of the most confusing this I buy every few weeks, before COVID Aldi had the massive roll for $5 which seemed unbeatable for years.

Now I have no idea what to buy, there are too many factors to do a full calculate between sheets, ply, size and cost per roll or 100 sheets while I stand in the store staring like an idiot.

I have been buying the Handi Ultra large rolls @ $10 per 4 rolls but I think you guys here will have better ideas.

When there is no obvious deal on OzBargain what do you do? Is the Viva 12 pack that goes between $13-$16 a better purchase?

Teach me the ways of a true OzBargainer.

Thanks!

I’m still stocked up from last deal but I swear by Quilton Absorba Double Length Paper Towel now. 4 ply with next level absorbency. Worked out to 1.90 ea from amazon s and s

    • I've found that it sheds a ply as unwinding from roll, but the 3 ply Tuffy doesn't
      .

Most of the rolls from the normal 4 ply Absorba's have been doing this lately. QC used to be a lot better and didn't have this issue in the past, but the Absorba Double Length ones have been pretty solid from my experience.

True Ozb either buy them from Amazon or Costco
Or buy something like this https://www.repco.com.au/en/car-care-panel/car-care-accessor… wash and reused them.

    • Cheers, those microfiber cloth look to be the smart decision

      • Heavy dirt and spill with microfiber cloth which goes in the washing machine and final cleaning with paper towel.

    • Costco actually not that economical - ends up ~$2.38 per 100 sheets, and you have a large pack of ~12 rolls to store. Absolutely no benefit in buying bulk in this case.

I always just get viva on sale on Amazon. They seem better to me than Handee even if they are more expensive.

    Costco sell the best ones.

    • If you mean the Kirkland branded ones, then yes, Costco does sell the best ones

Isn't the price astronomical though? Something like four or five dollars per roll? But larger/more sheets? I'm with OP on this one, it's hard to compare.

      • Except at my local Costco i havent seen them on sale for months… :(

  • I buy commercial rolls from my works supplier & installed a commercial dispenser in my kitchen.

    Its amazing.

  • I just buy whatever is cheapest 3 ply, often that means combining SHOPBACK/CASHREWARDS with AMAZON or BIG W.
If need urgently then either Woolies or ALDI (as coles is a bit further away from my place)

Think it was https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08D5FJ4LS from last time

  • I have Tuffy and Viva at the moment. Tuffy is much thicker and more absorbent but sometimes that is unnecessary and Viva does the job. Only buy when on special.

Agree… Tuffy is amazing but sometimes unnecessary. I'll alternate between Viva or Handee depending on what's cheap/available.

  • Cheapest 1py works out best.

  • Who gives a crap paper towels are solid, absorbant, and build toilets in underdeveloped countries.

    • They are.. some people will find them too expensive.

  • In rolls

  • this deal from 2014 set me up with enough paper towel to last 6 years.

10 rolls @ 5 cents each. double ply and 1000 sheets per roll.

    • Amazing deal.

  • hmmm this post reminded me I needed some paper towels so I just ordered a 24 pack of the Quilton Absorba 4ply from Amazon.

Just a quick look and the recent reviews of the 24 pack have been terrible (noting a recent drop in quality). Still have a time to cancel but not sure if I should try it or not.

  • You don't! You use old rags. wash them and use them again.

  • I knew that Aldi jumbo roll, in some point they clearl them out at $4 each. Not sure if they are great value, I saw today in Reject Seven Hills, a jumbo roll of Job Squad jumbo paper towel 290 sheets 24x22cm 2 ply $7.50

Wow Viva has gone up at Woolies and Coles

    $4.50 for 2 rolls !

Was $4.50 for 3 rolls a little while ago
    [ last month]

  • I wait for Amazon and buy this Quilton 3 Ply White Paper Towel (60 Sheets per Roll), 12 count, Pack of 12 https://amzn.asia/d/9QajYoR . Just looked and I paid $12 last time.

  • I calculated it was cheaper to use 5 tissues than 1 or 2 sheets of paper towels

Its also easier to buy.. leas items. And less clutter in kitchen

    • Maybe so but if you used tissues on food they would stick and all you would have is a mess.

      • It works for me. When you have 4 or 5 tissues together, multiple plies, they are pretty strong for wiping up liquids and spills.

If you used 2 or 3 sheets of paper towels that is the same as 8 to 10 tissues… So it works for me and costs the same or less
