Got an earlier version of these from another Voll deal a few years back now. Definitely a solid purchase

  • +4

Is the a50 the new tpa3116 amplifier you mentioned in the last deal?

    • +2

      Yes

  • +4

This is quite literally the best deal in audio at the moment.

    • +2

How so? Any review of them mate? :)

      • +4

Not sure if there are any reviews of the P44 around apart from on the P44 product page on our website: https://voll.com.au/product/voll-p44-passive-bookshelf-speak…

Obviously take with a grain of salt as they are on our own website but we do post all reviews (regardless of how negative they are).

        • And apart from the product placement you engaged elsewhere?

          https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2323121

So, there's been this hype in USA about a set of sub $100 passive speakers called Micca MB42X. It's been collecting quite an interest in the audio world. Of course, I was quite oblivious to it, as I have been taking some time out of the speaker world.

Only a few weeks ago, Ziel and Spyder25000 here in whirlpool made me aware of them. From the thread in Reddit, it seems practically everyone who had heard it seem to love them… and also establish the fact that Voll B44 released in Australia is an identical speaker, just a minor cosmetic change and rebranding.

So there are reviews, but lucky for you, they're in your favour. Unless these are a whole new line?

          • @[Deactivated]: The P44 is a completely different product and not related at all to the B44.

      • +2

He/she isn't an audiophile, so what do you expect?

      • +1

Had the older version for years, i will vouch for them, best youre going to find at this budget

  • Would these be an upgrade to my edifier r1280DB ? I find they’re amazing but after an upgrade after 3 years.

    • yes

      • Any idea how much better.. haha can’t find a review anywhere :)

  • +12

Can these speakers be Voll mounted? How loud is the Vollume?

  • +1

My older (B44s) Volls are going bloody great still. Would love to add a subwoofer to them for the odd time I'm pumping the tunes

  • +1

These better for pc or TV?

  • we got a few sets of volls here, highly recommended, bodge is a good guy too

  • I've been using the P44 seconds for a year and enjoying them. Will you have a special on the subwoofer any time soon?

    • Probably not any time soon as we have limited stock at the moment. Possibly later in the year but any sale wont be as cheap as our previous ones due to rising costs.

  • any chance of swapping the regular cable for the subwoofer cable (extra $$ obviously)

  • Can anyone share how to connect these up to tv? With the sub?

    • You'll need to check and confirm that your TV has some kind of line out or headphone/line out. Consult the back of your TV or manual (or let us know your TV model and we can check). Then you'll just need the right cable, most probably a 3.5mm to 2RCA. Some tv's unfortunately don't have any analogue audio out and can't be easily connected to this kind of setup.

    • If you have no red and white RCA or 3.5mm output from your TV then you could go optical output > to DAC converter > to RCA red and white, then from the amp to sub and speakers with the speaker cable.

      • +1

This will work you just need to either make sure your TV is able to output stereo PCM via optical (will be an option in the menu on the TV) or that the optical DAC is capable of decoding dolby (most cheapies aren't).

  • Would this be better than a 5.1 samsung soundbar with a dedicated woofer?

    Asking for a friend

    • Too different to compare. It like apples to oranges. These are stereo speakers with stereo amplifier.

I wouldn't give up the 5.1 system as you'd be giving up a Home Theatre sub-woofer.

My own setup is I have a fancy 5.1 AV reciever (class D amplifier, 4 ohm) that handles two different speaker packages. For movies I use speak circuit A for my 5.1 surround speakers. For music I switch to speaker circuit B that runs my stereo speakers (same size as these Voll bookshelf speakers). Saves a lot of space and utilises the sub-woofer for both circuits.

      • I see. So basically both your circuits have the two front stereo speakers, just A has the additional front and rears, and B does not?

And surround sound is not the best setup for music?I always thought the more surround it is, the better.

        • Studio music is not usually mixed for surround sound. If the music is mixed for surround sound, then a surround system would reproduce it better than a stereo system. For example, a recording of a live concert may be mixed for stereo to better capture the music, or for surround to better capture the reverberation, audience reactions, and the atmosphere.

          • @alvian: I see. So those 5.1/7.1 etc headphones are mainly targeted for gamers for surround then for music lovers.

And I wonder why people pay so much for a pair of 2.0 cans!

        • Not quite. Speaker A activates only my small 5 JBL speakers and the JBL sub-woofer. The stereo speakers don't fire.

Speaker B runs the two Bookshelf speakers that I use for music plus also the JBL sub-woofer.

My particular AV receiver can run both Speaker A + B at the same time so music is played on all 7 speakers and the sub.

I'm a beginner audiophile with low budget. I prefer listening to music through high quality stereo speakers. The reason is that most music is recorded, mixed and optimised for stereo and doesn't have the other surround channels. Quality speakers can produce a fantastic "sound stage" where you can visualise the direction of the sound and instruments.

When you listen to music on surround sound speakers you are no longer listening to it as the music producer intended. Instead you are listening to it as your manufacturer artificially decided. Its just a different style of music listening. Surround speakers are great at diffusing and bouncing sound around the room and off the ceiling, that's what helps an experience where you can't guess where your rear speakers are.

Have a look at what a music producer or musician uses to play their music when they are crafting music. They always own stereo "monitor" speakers and the room (or closet) has sound dampening on the walls.

          • @Mumbles: Fair. Thanks for the explanation.

  • Got a link to the amplifier specs?
    dw found it
    https://voll.com.au/product/voll-a50-2-50w-amplifier/

    • You can see some specs on the A50 product page here: https://voll.com.au/product/voll-a50-2-50w-amplifier/ and lots of technical specs about the chip used here: https://www.ti.com/product/TPA3116D2

      • i almost guarantee this is a sister product to the Aiyima A07… which is a pretty well regarded Chinese class d amp

and the voll is cheaper than the A07 delivered

they are very powerful amps with the right psu but even the standard psu should have heaps of power for most speakers

        • The A07 is a TPA3255 based amp which is a more powerful chip than the TPA3116D2.

Our A50 is the same as the Breeze Audio TPA3116 amp which can be had on Aliexpress for about $40 without PSU but once you add PSU and GST you end up over our $59 rrp and don't have an Australian warranty.

  • Basic question but could these be used to listen to a record player (with pre-amp) in between. Is it just a 3.5mm line in?

    • +1

Yes, they'd be great for that. It's 2x RCA input into the amp.

  • -1

How do these compare to say q acoustics q3020i and a3030i?

    • +1

they dont, Voll are great bang for buck, with very decent sound quality. Q Acoustics is another level and price reflects this.

      • yeah i mean they are 4" drivers

they aint gonna break the laws of physics

i dont even like 5" drivers tbh… at 6-7-8 is where it gets usable to me

  • -1

    q3020I would be better

    • +2

And more than double the price with no amp.

      • Yes. Q Acoustics are pretty good value when they are on sale, but they are on another level and price range.

        • +1

I hope so, I ordered a pair over the weekend from the recent deal!

  • Great deal! But no love for ACT? Any recommendations for Bluetooth connectivity or AirPlay?

    • +1

Shipping to other locations is heavily subsidised. Canberra appears to be free as well for our bundles (but possibly not all suburbs, add to cart and use shipping estimator to confirm, we don't require any info for shipping quote apart from suburb and postcode).

  • I don't have a subwoofer yet at this point, but I am considering getting this bundle first. If I were to get the speaker subwoofer combined cables with banana plugs, will that still work without a subwoofer connected?

    • +2

Yes but you'd probably want to tape around the ends of the banana plugs that would go to the subwoofer so they don't short out against each other

  • Oh man, just bought a set of Edifier mr4 and would much prefer these

  • Not the same speakers but I have the Voll B50 and S8 sub hooked up to a Yamaha receiver for tv/movies/music and have been very happy. I don't think you can get much better bang for your buck.

  • Someone has pointed out to me that our pricing for longer speaker cables didn't match what is shown on the length swatches so anyone who ordered cables longer than 3 metres we'll refund the extra amount paid. Error has been corrected now and all speaker cable lengths are +$5 (apart from 2m) just for this sale.

  • Cant seem to be able to get the RCA cables?

    • Unfortunately RCA cables are out of stock - we didn't have a lot to begin with and this deal has sold a lot more than we expected.

      • Hi, I am still waiting on a reply from my PM?

  • Great speakers. The amp is more than enough to power these (if you need more power, could always pair with a cheap preamp). I would recommend pairing this with a sub, I find it makes a world of difference.

  • Anyone know how this setup would compare to a JBL Xtreme 2? I know they're an entirely different type of speaker, but I'm used to having a big hi-fi set up with floorstanding speakers, but currently living in a smaller apartment and getting by with the JBL.
Also what are returns like if they don't end up working with the room? Cheers!

    • +1

We have a 30 day money back guarantee on everything we sell. Just keep the boxes in case you need to return, contact us within 30 days of receiving your order and let us know you'd like to return, pack everything up in the original boxes and we'll arrange our courier to pick up and issue a full refund less $10 return fee.

      • Ripper, thanks mate.

  • Compared to other speaker prices and custom solutions, this seems like amazing price to specs. I've ordered the bundle but I have a question. Would the amp work to power an 8ohm speaker (even if quite)? I just dont want to damage anything.

    • +1

Yes it will work with 8ohm speakers but as you say it will be a lot quieter. You'd probably want to run a 24v power supply for 8 ohm speakers, unless the speakers are really efficient.

  • How would these compare against Microlab solo8 in a big room, general use tv/music?
The microlabs are a much bigger speaker, but I like the clean look of the volls

  • Does the bundle that include the S8 subwoofer also ship this Friday?

    • +1

Yes, although due to how many orders we've had some orders may not be shipped until Monday.

      • Great, thank you!

  • I purchased the set without the Subwoofer and looking for a suitable sub that"s lower priced than the Voll s8. Are all subs going to work with these Volls?

  • Hi OP , any upcoming deals on the sub?

    • Unfortunately no deals on just the S8 until at least second half of the year (but that's not necessarily a guarantee a deal will happen then).

  • +1

    Hi Everyone,

We tried out best to get all your orders out today but unfortunately only managed about 75% today. The remainder will ship on Monday.

If you ordered a sub bundle and are confused about how to plug the speaker/subwoofer cable in there is a diagram in the manual. In order to insert the banana plugs into the back of the S8 you need to use a flathead screwdriver or knife to lever the caps off the binding posts. We're planning on doing a setup video for the bundles but unfortunately haven't finished it yet. Any questions please PM me or email us and we'll get back to you.

  • Should I run these or use a pair of my BMW M1's that are sitting in the cupboard? Currently running Edifier MR4's and not impressed

  • Audio n00b here. I had a pair of AudioEngine A2s from ~12 years ago that recently blew up.

Would this bundle be of similar quality?

I had the A2s on my desk to listen to music when working, plus some gaming. I'm not generally fussy about audio quality, just want something better than tin cans and inexpensive.

    • +1

The Volls are a nice sounding speaker at a great price. Less sharp than the A2 and not as muddy as the A5 if that helps. For desktop they are perfectly fine and take up little room.

      • Thank you, worth a try, will order!

  • +1

How would these compare to something like the Presonus Eris E3.5?

  • What wires would you recommend to connect these to pc?

    • +1

RCA to 3.5mm from amp to PC, along these lines, and standard speaker cable from the amp to each speaker.
