    Item weight 1.1 Kilograms

Surely it weighs more than that. I’d be surprised if the pump alone weighs that.

Edit: one of the pictures show it in a carry bag with a weight of 11.8kg so not sure what referencing.

    • +1

Yeah, the picture shows 11.8kg but description has weirdly 1.1 kilogram, think it's a typo.

I wonder about the rrp mentioned for this one seater. Check out the two seater, it is normally $145.17 down to $125.98

  • Woke up at 5am - and found out I missed out on this
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/754266

Saw this, and bought due to FOMO - don't know where I can use it legally?
Now need to find a cheap but safe life vest .

Anyone know what the rules are regarding social paddling on the Yarra river or other water ways in Victoria?

    • Id also like to know this. Can you use these in the bay close to foreshore?

    • +3

Aren't you allowed to kayak anywhere? Ive never even had to think about it. It's harmless.

      • +15

you can’t use one for international travel without the correct paperwork

      • +2

My local pool seems to think otherwise.
The kid should have moved out of the way. 🤷

    • +2

I kayak wherever I want in VIC including the Yarra

    • +1

Use it legally? But it's an inflatable boat!…it's not like a drone or electric scooter.

    • +1

There are virtually no rules when it comes to paddling, certainly etiquette and safety suggestions, but no rules other than wearing an approved PFD

    • +2

don't know where I can use it legally

On your local streets when it's flooded.
So you can get supplies from supermarket.

    • +1

Anaconda is good for cheap life vests

This weekend when everyone is kayaking down the Yarra - you'd know it's an OzBargainer.

Have had two K2 Challenger kayaks for a couple of years now and they are great. Not built for speed, but they are very stable. Also very portable and quick to inflate with hand pump provided (about 5-10 minutes max). Only real downside from my perspective is removing the water/moisture prior to packing them away.

    • Got it delivered today, now wondering how to get in and out without getting wet or is it unavoidable to stay dry in calm waters ? And any tips to avoid holes in this other than keeping it packaged. Thanks.

      • +3

Unless entry/exit is from a dock or similar, it is pretty much unavoidable to get at least slightly wet feet. Also, during paddling small amounts of water tend to drip of the oars into the kayak. We keep a chamois or microfibre towel in the carry bag to wipe out any excess moisture when packing away, which isn't usually very much after leaving the kayak in the sun to dry off.

The kayaks are constructed with a heavy duty plastic vinyl (i.e. not your typical kids inflatable pool ring material). It can be folded and refolded many times without risk of holes/perforations along the folds. During use, you need to be careful to avoid submerged trees/branches or sharp rocks, but generally you would be moving at a relatively slow pace and these are easy to spot. The kayaks are constructed with multiple inflatable compartments/components so in the event of a serious puncture it will still float (be sure and wear a life jacket however).

        • Getting wet feet is not at all an issue, keeping a small towel is a good idea. Never thought about submerged trees be an issue, a great tip. Thanks.
so just stay away from any kinda rocks and trees in water to start with it would take time to spot an quickly manoeuvre for learners.
Would you need a waterproof bag for essential electronics or just leave them in car as a good riddance for a while.
Is it too difficult/tiring to paddle against the flow of water in this ?

          • +3

@SuperLate: Would definitely recommend a waterproof bag for phone, wallet, keys etc if carrying onboard. Just a zip lock bag with a bit of air left in it for flotation is okay or something like this is also a good option - https://www.bcf.com.au/p/sea-to-summit-light-dry-bag-1l/5162…

Unless only doing it for a short distance or a very slow current, paddling against the flow can be a real chore. If kayaking on a river, pre-plan your journey, get someone to drop you off upstream and go down with the current to a suitable downstream landing location. I would recommend for beginners to start on a lake or reservoir to gain some skills on calm water before heading down a flowing river.

  • Any suggestions for a good portable electric inflator/compressor for one of these?

    • +2

Kmart have one for $10. I think they have the normal 230v version and a 12v version for your car

    • +2

if you have the batteries already there’s an ozito pxc one for $35

    • +1

AU $9.39 on Aliexpress, car version and a wireless. Tried posting link but it got auto-moderated

    • +3

No need, these pump up very easily. Not like the damn inflatable dinghies

    • +1

YMMV but we used a Ryobi inflator on the high volume setting and it was quicker to pump manually.

    • +1

I use my Dewalt 18v blower which has inflatable attachments

    • +3

Use the pump provided. I split my Intex Challanger when I used the pump from my drop stitch kayak on it. These intex kayaks can only take like 1psi

  • +1

For those wants to practice first

  • +3

these are ok for casual use (paddling around calm beaches & rivers) but any serious use these would be some hard work. poor tracking and they sit high on the water so you have to fight wind hard. this price is a great deal for a casual paddle though and anyone in small apartments

  • Also interested in any life vest recommendations as they are almost as expensive as these and i need 2 so more than the kayak!

    • Was gonna ask, do you have to wear life vest kayaking? Or have a lifesaver onboard? What’s the safety recommendations?

      • +1

usually if you are within 200m of shore it may not be required depending on state, but better to be safe than sorry. You should be able to find a cheap one at BCF, Decathlon etc for $30-40 buck if you are savvy

        • Thanks. Missed the deal so when it comes back will trip to BCF to get a vest.

Protip for these: get some Gorilla Glue. It's a water cured, expanding, flexible drying glue that adheres very well to this material.
Works really well for fixing small holes. Don't even need patches, just pour on a glob.
The included repair kit is a joke.

    • +2

i’ve found that Gorilla Crystal Clear Tape works really well

    • Can you pls link the one?

  • +1

So many kayak deals, someone giving us fatties a hint

  • It comes up to $119 during check out. What’s going on with Amazon? Feels like I’m being tricked lol

  • All finished it seems.

    • Stock is still available but store has increased the price to $119 to take the advantage of OzBargainers interest !

  • +2

We’ve taken our 2 person on the Yarra from Herring Island to The Melbourne Rowing Club by St Kilda Rd. It’s a great leasurely paddle, you’ve just got to watch out for the scenic and bbq boats but we didn’t find it a hassle.

  • +2

    Still available for 96.30

i have 3 of these , i used this air pump from kmart to pump them up.

Also got a dry bag to keep the pump in.

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/rechargeable-air-pump-42721…

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/5l-dry-bag-42538219/
