TBSM had 2022 models for $1999. Should be less for 2021.

    • That’s a good price on the 2022!

    • Any major differences between 2021 & 2022 models?

  • This or Sur-ron?

My budget for a commute e-bike is around $600.

half price still $2000 with that very chunky look and Shimano Nexus 7 RevoShifter or similar components….It is crazy in my opinion

  • Shame this is in-store only

Try your local giant store supplier. I think it is a giant promo as tbsm were offering it until yesterday and was for stock they would need to order from giant.

  • Old tech now 2021. It's 2023 for crying out loud. 60Nm where others in price range tout 80Nm. Fast moving specs at this price point.

  • Be warned whilst a good price, not good for hilly areas! I had to return mine.

    • really? the motor was not strong enough?

      • +1

        It's all about the torque.

        • depends on how hilly

i'd say something like this is perfectly fine to get around urban areas, up to 10% gradient

just don't go mountain biking with it with 20%+ gradients

        • absolutely. Torque x rpm = power

For a mid drive, if you want to go up a hill at a decent speed (say 10% gradient at 15~20kmh) , more torque is what you want because it would let you shift to a higher gear whilst keeping the pedal cadence fairly relaxed and let the motor do the heavy lifting (literally). if 2 motors have the same power (ie 250W limit) but one with 60nm and the other 80nm, the 60nm motor will have to spin faster to deliver the same power output.

I have been commuting for nearly 2yrs on a Cube with 60nm Bosch mid drive with some decent hills, but I do ride regularly on a road bike so I find it sufficient.

Probably depends on your expectation of how much the pedal assist works. I suspect warney wanted something where they could barely pedal and still go max speed uphill. Its got 60nm. While it isnt the highest, its far from the lowest and should be enough to get up most hills easily if you put some effort in.

      • It's usually strong enough but they put a Max cog like a 36T and people with no stamina struggle. If you had a 50T on the back it would cruise up the hill albeit slowly. If you want to be a lazy arse get a hub drive bike.

        • hey just checking how you arrived at a 36T at the rear? from the Nexus 7 page gear 1 ratio is 0.632 and with an 18T rear cassette I'm working it out to be around 28T equivalent.

Looks like it has at 38T at the front so the gear ratios will definitely put this more comfortably in the around the city commuter sort of terrain. With the e-bike assist though I think most people that are "able" would do fine/easily up to 5-6% but weaker riders might struggle closer to 10%

Price seems good to me, for a mid-drive ebike.

I paid $1200 just for the conversion kit with mid-drive motor

@deanmoriarty et al, the current model (non-2021) seems to be $2000 from $3999 as well:

    And there's a step-through version, too:
