Tempted to get my wife this for her birthday. She currently has a Huawei Mate 9 which she loves, but it's starting to develop issues

I dropped by 4 year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro in the pool last week, and as the glass had been cracked for a couple of years it didn't survive. Did a bit of research and settled on the Pixel 7 as its replacement.

It's decent if not mind-blowing. I think the build quality is great, everything works how it should and it was easy to set up. I'm a bit unconvinced about the quality of the screen whilst watch films, but the Huawei was a high benchmark. For $799 it's miles better value than anything from Samsung or Apple. I also considered an Oppo but it didn't have wireless charging, and the Motorola in the price bracket wasn't water resistant. The Pixel isn't perfect but it's a reasonable compromise.

    rip unlimited backups

So annoying it's such a big mark up for the extra storage when a simple card used to do the trick.

Now need to strap a USB-C hub + Samsung storage to every device 🥵

      Chonky

    • Exactly, it's not like the upgrade would use more space inside the phone! I guess they are just trying to push people to get google one subscriptions

Mine blew up the first day. battery busted, returned for a full refund and luckily didn't lose anything important.

Im just glad pixel phone only has 0.01% share in the phone market. The fewer people they have, the quicker they go bankrupt.

Google is going to go broke if your group chat don't buy a Pixel phone?

google aint getting a buck from me ever.

ublock origin - Blocks all google ads
youtube revanced - youtube premium for free
innertunes apk - youtube music for free

im going to be putting out tutorials on how to install these apps.
But most people already know how.

You're still using Google services. If you're going to do it properly then stop using them.

          • -1

@Clear: i never said im ditching google serves. im just simply using it for free whatever way that benefits me.

i dont upload any videos or photos so they cant track me.
i use burner accounts so they dont have my personal info.
i dont use gmail. i have my own dedicated email with my domain name.

I just use whatever service is available for free. i couldn't care less if those apk stopped working. ill just go back to thepiratebay for music and put it in my phone and use the mp3 player the old way.

If you had a faulty phone then they must all be faulty.

    • Can you please stop with the repetition of the same comment

If you have an issue, post it as a forum once so that users are aware, rather than keep posting the same comment on related Google and non related deals

Otherwise contact Google support and I’m sure they’ll send a replacement to you as part of the manufacturer and ACL warranty

Still no deals on the Pro it seems.

    • +1

No, waiting for it as well. Keeping 7 sealed in the box for few more days in anticipation of a better deal on Pro.

      • same here, my phone screen cracked just after all those sales ended on January and desperately checking for pro to go on sale. I'm starting to feel that S23 ultra pre sale deals are a much better option than to buy the pixel 7 pro without a better deal.
I could only get the pixel 7 pro 256GB for around 1350 AUD.
But can get a Samsung S23 ultra with 512GB for 1600 AUD with gift cards from costco :(

Alright, so I couldn't wait more and opened my new pixel 7. On first start it was way warmer than expected but then I turned power off and charged fully. Just used for 2 hours after fully charged and its cool to touch now and I'm loving it, the fast interface, camera, night pics. So far it's awesome for the money paid, gives a feel of top of the range phones.

  • Why are they trying to only get rid of Pixel 7 only? No deals for 7 pro.

    • Brand awareness? Google stumping up a chuck of cash to shift a ton of units at $799 to get market share. That's how a lot of sales normally work.

      • They put Google's own processors in them. ram, motherboard and storage are standard. Only thing they customised was camera & software.

I doubt this cost more than 400 to make especially when they make them in large quantities. Google doesn't have to stump up a cent to get the price to $799.

Oh wonderful, I just paid $999 for this on Saturday at JBHIFI.

I don't suppose they do a "see it cheaper up to 14 days after" type thing?

    • +2

      Doesn't hurt to ask

      • +9

It doesn't. I pinged them via chat, they were brilliant about it and refunded the difference.

        Bravo JBHIFI - happy customer!!

        • Wow that's awesome.

  • Cheaper at office works. Price Match.

    • +1

Not sure Officeworks has any of them though. They didn't last week.

  • Cheaper than Jbhifi and Officeworks here.

The Pixel 7 128Gb is also $799 direct from Google, https://store.google.com/au/product/pixel_7?hl=en-GB

  • 256 model plz discounted!

    • I jumped on the JB hi-fi chat yesterday and got them to price match the 256GB model against Office Works ($917). Picked up today. You could give that a go!

  • Anyone know when this ends please?

  • Ah, looks like today
