Samsung Air Purifier AX90T7080WD with 3 Way Air Flow (CADR 701m³) $499 (Was $899) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ The Good Guys

200

Like clean air at home? It really works for us.
Samsung AX90T7080WD aka Ultimate Air Purifier AX90

Better deal than from the expired bing lee deal as it now includes store cash $50 for concierge gold members and cashrewards.

Just be mindful, the samsung air purifier is a huge machine but super powerful with cleaning the air for rooms for up to 90m2 space with its Clean Air Delivery Rate of 701m³ p/hr.

Also can be bought directly from samsung https://www.samsung.com/au/air-care/air-purifier/ax7500k-air…

Next best machine in my view is the winix zero pro https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07PPPK6KD
Much more compact and probably not far behind the samsung but for rooms of up to 50sqm
the pet filter is just a cheap filter that you stick on but overall i'm happy with the machine

I have both machines, the samsung for our large open living spaces and the winix for our master bedroom suite
both Choice recommended

$900 for air purifier at rrp ? wow ! why is it so expensive ? what does it do vs a Xiaomi for $250 ?

Buy the Ikea ones. They work great and on the lowest setting are completely silent. Replacement filters aren't overpriced.

Reviews and some of the comments below make a big deal about the air cleaning per hour rates. Read this to understand why that's not that important:
      https://dynomight.net/ikea-purifier/

Now granted if you have a monster room you might need two. Still cheaper by a long margin.

I have one in my bedroom that we keep on the noisier setting but on a timer to only be on when we're not sleeping. Works a treat and has improved my partner's lifetime asthma quite a bit. You really notice much less dust around too.

Planning to get two more for my kids who also have asthma.

        That is a great article.

Reminds me of certain folks on OzBargain who are constantly crapping on the Xiaomi 3H and other cheaper air purifiers and claiming that you need to buy the $800-1000 Samsung machine, otherwise you're basically doing nothing at all to filter your air. And they're ALWAYS quoting the CHOICE reviews, which are clearly heavily skewed towards certain characteristics (namely CADR, and VOC filtering) that favour huge, expensive machines.

I'd wager that most of the people who buy the $1K air purifiers don't usually run them at their max power (=very noisy) anyway, so all that extra CADR goes to waste.

I still think an air purifier is a very simple mechanical concept and you can't really go wrong with most machines on the market today, even the "cheap" ones that cost $170-200 — and you certainly don't have to spend close to a grand or more to get good performance!

I'm also constantly surprised at how popular air purifiers seem to be, and I think most people don't actually need one. Perhaps I'm just being elitist…

The xiaomi is for rooms 28 - 48m²
The samsung can handle 90sqm (larger spaces)

The Xiaomi clean air delivery rate (CADR) is up to 400m³/h
The Samsung CADR is 701m³/hr so nearly twice as strong/fast to clean a larger room

  • filters arent cheap either. im trying to research the benefits and costs

    • +1

If you don't run these on high which the noise is considerable you won't be noticing a difference

I’ve got a small $50 one from Kmart for my bedroom and it honestly doesn’t the job. It’s a hepa filter too and the filters are under $20. You can get large units too

  • Question to OP - do you have the windows fully closed all the time? Otherwise outside air coming in will defeat the purpose of the purifier no?

    • No it doesn't defeat the purpose.

The purpose isn't 100% purification at all times, you can still cycle fresh air through your house.

The purpose is to mitigate the amount of poorer quality air in your house, over time.

    • Moslty closed due to colder melbourne climate

    I like it but it costs $300 to replace both filters… ($149 each)… So $300 a year.hmmm….

The 'filter replacement alarm' sounds alarming, I bet it starts alarming constantly at the half-life mark and won't shut off…

    • +1

Of course! And naturally, being a Samsung, you'll have to download an app and keep the air purifier connected to the internet at all times so Samsung can spy on you and use your WiFi as a botnet

Im pretty sure thats huawei not samsung.

    • +1

Yikes, they should give it away for free if filters cost that much

  • Pardon my ignorance but does it work as a dehumidifier? My apartment is quite humid and need something… Any recommendations?

    • +2

No it wont work like that. You need a specific dehumidifier to reduce humidity.

You can lower the temperature in the room to assist in reducing humidity (because colder air holds less water than warmer air - so while the overall humidity level might be the same %, it will actually feel less humid), but using an actual dehumidifier can greatly reduce overall humidity levels in a room.

Personally, I use the Ausclimate cool-seasons 10L dessicant dehumidifier in my small apartment and it works very well at reducing overall humidity levels from >70% to ~40-45% pretty quickly.

The downside is they blow warm air out the back of them so you need to point them somewhere strategic - and also you need to regularly empty the water collection vessel.

      • cheers mate ! I will have a look at the Ausclimate

    1. Does samsung still offer the $50 newsletter code?
    2. Has anyone found any generic filters like on aliexpress that can be used instead?

Would welcome a $50 code if anyone has a spare? Thank you.

  • was just looking to get this last night, looks like its back to the normal price :(

edit: will try my luck to price match at good guys, I saw the samsung site still sells it for 499

    • neither Good Guys or Harvey allows the price match.

Does anyone know if I order it from Samsung site if delivery is reliable? I read somewhere some TVs ordered from their site arrived with a broken screen

      • i'm sure samsung would look after their customers if something is broken?

        • I read here it takes a month or more for appliances replaced https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/744889
Customer service wasn't really that helpful as well, so I'm hesitant to place an order in their site.

I also remember claiming a gift card from them a few months back, it took 3 months for me to get the gift card from them

      • +1

        No.

I ordered from Samsung site directly, when they had the 50% sale. Thought it would be better to get directly from the manufacturer, in case some thing goes wrong, and not worrying about 3rd party resellers etc.

I made sure I picked a delivery date I was home for, since we are all busy workers and I couldn't afford to have such a large package sitting in full view of porch pirates. I picked a date 2 weeks from the sale date, as that was the only time I was free at home. The item could have been delivered earlier if I had wanted, but I was only free that specific Friday.

Come delivery date, not a friggin sms to tell you item was coming soon or what. Waited the bloody entire day at home, up till 6pm. No item turned up that day. I was pissed.

Come the following Monday morning, as I was getting ready to leave for the school run, delivery man comes. How bloody BS!!!! If I had left 2 minutes earlier, I would have missed the delivery guy and god knows when I would have gotten the item.

So I would rate Samsung delivery as 0/10.
