Best USB-C Adapter for Travel

I've been looking for a USB-C power adapter that I can travel with as my only adapter (alongside a power bank), and it's been surprisingly hard! My requirements are:

  • at least 2 ports (at least one type-C, pref both)
  • USB-PD, at least one port >=45W (flexible)
  • thin/portable/small design (so that it's not fidgety to use on planes)
  • global swappable plugs (afaik AU, US, UK, EU is enough)
  • won't blow up

The products I've found so far (and the reasons they don't fit the bill) are:

  • the HEYMIX 65W GaN charger and travel adapters
    • this is exactly what I'm looking for but there have been many (many) reports of heymix chargers being shoddy or just terrible in general
    • (and maybe it's a bad sign that the only product that fits my requirements is shoddy and dangerous…)
  • the Apple 35W dual USB-C adapter and travel kit
    • a little too bulky maybe, but mainly too expensive!! $90 + $50 for the adapter kit seems unreasonable, especially for 35W
  • the Baseus 65W/100W GaN desktop adapters
    • perfect, if the cable was removable/swappable
  • the Anker PowerPort III 65W travel charger (also comes in a 2x type-C version)
    • conveniently supports every global plug except AU (and also a touch too bulky)

Please feel free to suggest any other options, criticise my requirements, or just laugh at how much time I've spent looking for a charger of all things 🙄 thanks!

I'm after something similar, have you considered the mophie speedport? That's the one I've got my eye on.

    I've ben travelling with the Heymix 100W 4 port (3 x USB-C, 1 x USB-A) and the smaller Zyron 65W (2 x USB-C, 1 x USB-A)

Both are great, I just prefer more ports. Both have been reliable so far after a year of almost constant flights and travel.

    • Heya you got the link for them? Cheers

        I have the same ZYRON
great for travel no need for Mac charger either

This is only $10 more might be worth it

        • I just measured my Heymix, exact same size/external casing. Is it the same internals… who knows, I remember the Zyron people saying that they're not just whitelabelled and they do Aus tick testing. The latter makes sense, I don't care enough to tear mine open. They've both been reliable chargers at 100W and 65W respectively.

Zyron 100W is only $84 on Amazon AU which seems like a great price for a compact capable charger. Heymix in same spec has never gotten hot, even charging MacBook, iPad, iPhone and powerbank up from exhausted. I don't have the powr draw but it's a "real world" high load example.

Unless I’m missing something it looks like you can get the Heymix with the adaptors for $45

    Heymix

  • Hey mix 100w Gan charger has worked well for me so far. I can travel with a MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and paired with triple wireless charger for my iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro. Still got spare port for my wife’s android phone.

Quality feels good too, solid and compact. There’s rumour in ozbargain that heymix can catch fire, but can’t find actual report myself so far, and my charger hasn’t been running hot charging my iPad/MacBook together.

    • Yeah I don’t doubt that most of them probably work fine, but comments like these make me want to steer clear of the brand (as well as claims that they’ve cut corners wrt standards compliance). Even if it doesn’t fail spectacularly, I don’t want to run the risk of my only adapter at hand failing when i’m overseas

(worth noting too that similar brands like Baseus don’t have anywhere near this many stories about their products)

    • Hi @bryanang - I see you mention you have the 3 in 1 wireless charger for iphone/watch/airpods - how have you found this - no issues (I note some reviewer comments about intermittent working or not working, etc)? Do you think the charging rates are decent (e.g. you getting fast charge speeds on the phone? how about fast charge for the watch (I believe it needs to be 5W or more)?)

  • If you look at YT teardown videos, usually Anker is the most recommended.

  • I've also been on the search for travel adapters similar to yours and the closest best thing I've found is the IDMIX 140W Gan Charger, although it's a bit more bulkier (which I don't mind since it has power factor correction).

You can watch this pretty good youtuber who recommends this (and its many clones) in his best USB power adapters video as well as his review.
