  • Any love for the Gold Coast?

There are flights out of the Gold Coast but they are the usual prices (no reduction), so I didn't post them.

Scoot's fees for checked in luggage and food are expensive.

Also, most Scoot flights have a stopover in Singapore.

    • +1

They are based in Singapore, even with baggage my upcoming flight to Male was $1000 cheaper than flying with SQ.

  • +1

flights to sing look cheap… however stopover kills it for everything else.

  • Not directly related to the discussion but has anyone had any luck cancelling a flight with scoot with or without the insurance (and how you achieved it). I wanted to change my flight but it costs almost double (as changing fee is coming close to $1000). Now weighing my options between scoot direct cancellation or involving my travel insurance. Any insight or experience would be much appreciated. Thanks

    • Does your travel insurance cover change of mind?

      • No it doesn't. But it's not actually change of mind. Employer needs me to work. There's a condition to over this scenario but many loose ends that are open to interpretation. I'm not sure how hard they're going to check for evidence etc. Hoping someone had a similar case resolved who could shed some light here.

        • Have you read your travel insurance's PDS? I haven't come across any travel insurance that covers trip amendment/ cancellation due to employer's decision. If your leave has been approved and your employer is now rescinding your leave approval, you should probably ask them to cover your amendment costs.

          • @Love a bargain: Yep, TID insurance has got that clause (good on them). It's such an uncommon matter hence I couldn't find anything online in terms of information hence the question here.

            • +1

@npnp: If your travel insurance covers this event, it just means you can claim the cost back from the insurer, you'll still have to deal with Scoot re the actual cancellation/ change yourself.

  • Who now owns Scoot? Who are the major share holders?

    • +1

      SIA 100%

  • Wow some of these have a 12-23 hour stopover, no wonder it's cheap

    • You can leave the airport. Singapore is a small country and you can get quite a bit of sightseeing in and to sample the local cusine during the layover (or stay an extra night or two for a real stopover). They use to offer free local tour for transit passengers pre-COVID but it's just as easy to go into the city by MRT yourself.

      • I second this. Also worst case scenario, if you don't want to leave, I think you can comfortably stay 24 in Changi airport.

        • Would still recommend clearing immigration though. There are plenty to shop, see, eat and drink within the airport complex (esp in the Jewel), or just take the MRT for one (or two stops - can't remember now) to Expo where there's an outlet shopping centre. Otherwise, a day at the water park also not so far away from the airport might also be a good option if you've got some energetic kids in tow.

Your options are endless once you've actually entered Singapore.

          • @Love a bargain: So for a 23 hour layover, can we just clear immigration, exit, stay at a hotel outside of Changi, shop sight see etc and come back the following day for our connecting flight?

            • @xT22: Absolutely. You might just need to plan ahead re your luggage - which will probably be checked all the way through to your final destination if it's supposed to just be a layover/ transit (as opposed to a stopover). If you really need you check in luggage during your layover, you can probably ask not to have them tagged all the way but that will mean you need to join the bag drop queue for the second leg. (Haven't done that myself but I would imagine that would be possible).

              • @Love a bargain: Ooh thank you! We will likely just be travelling with our carry-on only so that should eliminate that luggage situation.

                • +1

@xT22: Airlines in general don't care if you enter the country you're transiting through during a layover or not. Airlines can't restrict your movement and immigration only cares if you have appropriate passport & visa if needed, and got enough money & an onward ticket. This is not unique to transiting through Singapore. It's just that it's not typically worthwhile entering a country if you only have a few hours between flights, or if the airport is too far out of town.

  • Oh wow, how bad are the stopovers!!

  • Is 2 shots considered fully vaccinated to enter Singapore for 7 days? As I had my first shot at December 2021 and second shot at Jan 2022. Not had my third shot yet.

  • Do you know if you can add luggage after if you book through one of the 3rd party sites? They are charging $99 for 20kg when its only about $50 direct from Scoot?

  • Thought i got a cheap holiday to Singapore. Now to find a hotel for less than $400 a night. Damn its expensive

    • I stayed in Novena and it was under 200 a night, not too far from the city and pretty central

    • Yep, it's actually ridiculously expensive! No deals on Klook either, coz there's so much Chinese and other tourist money flowing through Singapore right now that prices are seriously high. Had to fork out under $300 for a one bed apartment in Bencoolen area.

    • Yeah I loathe travelling in Australia due to hotel prices. Singapore is equivalent so prefer KL or Vietnam etc where I can stay at a nice hotel with breakfast for AUD 50-60

  • Anyone have an idea as to how long before sale ends? Cheers all
