  • not on your web yet?

  • I don't know if you can call this a server, although IBM calls it a server. Under powered CPU, NON-ECC RAM, no hardware RAID5 support(onboard). I reckon you would be better off with a generic i5/i7 box.

Depends on what it's going to be used for. No dramas here if used as a file/print server or NAS. RAID is easily sorted with expansion cards.

Reminds me of my old as the hills IBM X series I ran as a home NAS for many years before replacing it with a QNAP. Ah, the memories… :)

well, if you want memories, at least the systems posted have 16GB.

        What's that - that's a different kind of memory?

        wanders off looking confused…..

This server contains ECC Registered RAM and it's compatible with RAID0 & RAID1.
Also RAID5 is not supported as this is designed for a small business server from 1 - 20 seats.

      • RAID 5 isn't recommended for large disks/arrays anyway. See this for why: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/storage/why-raid-5-stops-working-i…

This article was written in 2007, referencing 2009. i'm sure something in there is still relavant ;)

          More press specualtion than anything.

        • +2

It's entirely still relevant. The 2TB Seagate Barracuda XT drives I bought a month ago still have an Unrecoverable Read Error rate of 1 in 10^14 as mentioned in the article. Same for the 3TB model. Mathematically the chances of encountering a read error during a RAID 5 array rebuild is significant - which is why no enterprise storage vendors recommend it.

But hey, it's your data ;)

        • Ahh yes true it is my data, since raid 5 there have been some additions to the raid portfolio, which make this point moot.

      • Sad some of us have raid 5 at home then lol

    • Non ECC? THe description says it is.

      • It contains
        "16GB DDR3 ECC Registered RAM"
        To help clear things up.

  • raid 5 isn't designed for large arrays anyway

    you'd use something else

  • What is the power consumption??

  • "Australia Post shipping calculator failed, reason: The maximum weight of a parcel is 20 kg"

    So these are pickup only?

not too bad if you want to run window server or vmware, at least all the drivers should be working.

    • Is this good enough to run web, sql database and email server concurrently? let say with low traffic?

      • +1

more then enough. just add a ssd to store your sql data. unless you are running complex view in your table otherwise even an atom cpu has enough power.

  • I would need more tan just one year warranty for this…

    • Hey
For an additional 2 Years Warranty (On site) with 4 hour response time between 9am-5pm
      is $249

Argh, I was just going to buy the i3 and now it's gone. None left? The link has changed from both servers to just the $445 one.

edit: just called, OK it's still available. phew!

    • We still have the i3 available!

It's on our website under 'servers' on the left-hand side on our web.
      Sorry for any confusion.
