Makita 17-Piece SDS Plus Drill & Chisel Set - D-53073 $49 + Delivery @ TradeTools

440

I was looking for a set of SDS plus drill and chisels for home, found Makita 17 Piece SDS Plus Drill & Chisel Set going for $49 while everywhere else I looked is selling them for $79.90. This is also cheaper than some of the sets from bunnings.

    oooh do they do CC?

  • +5

Bunnings dropped some of their cheaper sds drill bit sets so this is actually a decent deal if you need something now.

Also every tool should come in one of these roll up bags, everything else is just annoying to use.

Agreed, the plastic boxes i find are the worst after a bit of use as the clips and hinges begin to go.
Milwaukee is the worst as there boxes have a secondary compartment inside and when those clips break everything just falls out randomly.

What is SDS? sorry I'm a trade noob

    • Folded in half, I found this fits nicely inside my Makita rotary drill case which is an added bonus! (I forget the exact model but it's a relatively new ~800W with a plastic hard case)

that bag is worth $20 on its own I recon
I have plenty of SDS its, would like to get a good offer on a bag like this

  • +3

    Don't need it…. dont ….. don't need it ……. Got it.

    • +2

      Do you even SDS bro

  • $10.19 Delivery to Melbourne.

  • I'd like to get this but $10.50 for postage is a bit annoying.

Perfectly pairs with this hammer drill sale currently going:

just a soft reminder though, the drill bits are 2 cuts not 4 cuts, which means, it might be drilling in slower, but under the brand of Makita, assume they are quality 2 cut drill bits.

    • I bought a bunch of 2-cut Makita ~160mm 8mm on clearance. They don't last long.

    • I thought the 4 cutters were mainly for reo?

    • It's not just slower, it also tends to jump a lot leaving you with rather scratched up surface around the hole.

Note, there is no 6.5mm drill bit for green wall plugs.

    • -5

why would you use a sds set for 6.5mm drill bit for green wall plugs when your normal hand held drill will probably be lighter and easier to use..

      • +11

Because the wall is made of brick/concrete?

        • -2

your standard drill with hammer would be capable of doing this rather then lifting a bigger drill for this sort of job..

          • +1

@Mario g: Their comment was about the absence of a 6.5mm drill bit in this deal, not about the size/weight of an SDS drill or how else to drill a hole for a green wall plug.

            • -3

@Meconium: ok just to let you know there is no 1.5mm ,2.0mm,3.0mm,3.2mm,3.5mm,4.0mm,4.5mm,6.5mm,7.5mm,8.5mm,9.0mm,9.5mm,10.5mm,11.0mm,11.5mm,12.0mm,12.5mm,13.0mm,13.5mm

  • Does Bunnings offer this item (item number) and if so, would they price match this website ?

    • yes they would

      • I couldn’t find the item number. Anyone know if Bunnings sell this item ?

        • +1

Never seen them stock Makita SDS bits, and I've been to a few different Bunnings and shop the tool section often.
I've found kango SDS bits pretty decent value from Bunnings, goodlife they cut through pretty quick and usually half the price of Sutton

It looks tempting, but I don't even have a SDS drill…

    • Time to create a reminder!

  • Seems it's free shipping if spending over $75.

  • +1

Ok I bought the Drill set. So where to find the SDS plus drill ??

  • Dumb question Would these still work with rotary hammer drill? What would be best for digging into hard gravel or clay?

    • The sds bit has a unique shaft thats not like a normal drill bit.
Also i have a jack hammer and thats the easiest thing to get through clay with but not realistic for most people. Maybe look up those long metal fencing crow bars at bunnings

      • thanks mate. Yeah I currently use the fencing crowbar, but wondered if there was anything portable and easy.

        • I started with the crowbar. Then hired a jack hammer. Then bought the cheapest jack hammer from Bunnings and haven't looked back.
So much quicker then manually bashing with a bar.
But I'm also dealing not only clay but with coffee rock which is a soft rock but still rock.

  • I got an SDS Ozito 1500W drill and have no idea after countless videos and manuals how to get the drill bit to stay in… do you need to apply a lot of pressure?
    Any tips??
If I can figure it out, I will buy this set 😆

You need to pull down (right to bottom) the outer ring, feed bit in and let it go back up, should be locked in from there. Remember to grease it, mine bought a couple years back came with a small tub in the kit.

    • if it works then it clicks in easy, just have to rotate to find the correct spot.
That said, many chucks specially cheaper ones get very annoying and difficult to use. I can usually get the bit i when putting the bit in so it feel sile its deep in the correct key, and then start the drill up slowly forcing the bit in at the same time with a hand or pushing the bit against a solid object/concrete. That slow movement and start of the hammer action is usually enough to click the bit in.

I'm the opposite, can't seem to get it out easily.

    • i think you should return it…its not for you.

  • perfect with the Dewalt deal! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/755530 - thanks OP

  • I thought this was SDS max, but it's not much of a bargain for SDS plus. Spend a bit more and get 4-cut/quad-cut bits.

I remember spending almost $200 on Kango SDS Max chisel bits, because last time I cheaped out, the bit snapped and it wasn't fun getting the broken part out of chuck.

    • Kango bits are great! good find so far.

    • How do bits snap lol
I'm a tradie, i sue cheap bits all the time and rarely do they snap

      • I'm a tradie, i sue cheap bits all the time and rarely do they snap

        Sooo, they snap?

        • I mean, not enough so as to justify spending extra monies on bits. Expensive ones do drill faster though but i wouldn't spend $200 on sds bits

  • Feel like ordering a set even though I don't know what SDS is.

    • +2

Slotted Drive Shaft, connection on drill bit is slotted

      • The SDS name is an acronym of German: Steck – Dreh – Sitz ("Insert – Drill – Attachment"). In German-speaking countries the back-formation Spannen durch System ("Clamping System") is used, though Bosch uses "Special Direct System" for international purposes.[1][2]

  • For reference, RRP seems to be $80 (Total Tools, Amazon)

  • This any better than a $30 set off ebay?
