[VIC] $250 Power Saving Bonus for Victorian Households

1170

Went to check my energy prices after a $400 monthly bill and saw the $250 grant at the top of the Victorian Government compare website. The $250 grant does not require you to change providers and payment is made in 7-10 days for 5 minutes of work. From the website:

The $250 Power Saving Bonus for Victorian households is now open. Before submitting an application for the bonus, please read the eligibility requirements.

Eligibility requirements:
* You must be a Victorian residential energy consumer (i.e. have a residential electricity account).
* You must be the account holder
* Only one payment is available per household

As part of the Power Saving Bonus application process, we will present you with information about the best priced electricity offers available in your area. You are not required to switch offers or retailers.

The application process will take five to ten minutes of your time, and you will need to have a recent electricity bill with you.

Mod: Original Deal (2/5/22) - Duplicate Exception (over 6 months).

      I got 3 :D
One for old house, one for new house and one for holiday home
1 of them took longer than usual because it was flagged for "further review" but in the end all approved and paid.
Just make sure the electricity bills are in the same name you are claiming.

      • so switch name on electric bill = $

The whole energy sector needs a royal commission, rebates, cashbacks, gotta constantly change to get a discount. Absolute joke.

How nice of them to take our tax money which will be given right back to the power companies instead of fix the cause of the problem and lower prices
    Absolute scumbag corrupt (profanity)

    • You’d be paying those power bills regardless, yeh? So where’s the corruption, exactly?

They’re called transfer payments and the overall effect on the economy is not so simple as taking taxes and giving them to people you don’t consider to be worthy.

      • Look at all the good Howard's PHI subsidy did - just increase PHI prices by 30% overnight

        • So just to be sure I understand your argument… because a particular type of policy was deployed to negative effect in one instance that therefore means that that particular type of policy is inherently negative..?

          • @0jay: Yes. The example I gave was just once such instance of cronyism that supports what Willy suggested. There are many other such examples eg. digital set top boxes, roof cladding, solar panels, child care, first home buyers etc.

            • @brenwildman: What you’re calling cronyism is a legitimate economic tactic used by governments everywhere. It can (and has been) be used badly like any other tool.

I can only conclude you were home-schooled by a parent or guardian with only a very vague impression of basic economics, politics and ideology.

  • FYI processing time on these is approximately a month at the moment. Don’t count on having the $ in 7-10 business days.

It’ll get paid, just not that fast.

    • Mine took 2 months, they did at least keep sending updates to say it had been delayed. I kept forgetting about it until I got the emails.

  • Yay, inflation stimulation!

    • Most people would have claimed this before inflation skyrocketed. it certainly had little to nothing to do with inflation increasing. Blame that on fuel costs, labour shortages, flooding causing food shortages and general greed from some manufacturers and suppliers and the public acceptance of these price rises.

      • You think printing money doesn't cause inflation?? Yes there are other factors driving inflation too.

  • Anyone else get an email saying “Your application has been finalised, however due to some program constraints unique to your application, your $250 Power Saving Bonus will now be paid by cheque”?
I’m stoked I’m getting a 2nd rebate but just wondered my application was “unique”.
