How to Get an Outcome for a Complaint

I want to get a general Information to how I can get an outcome or a result from a complaint made. I want to know if I were to make a complaint about a customer service agent or a seller, what is the best way to approach this? How would I know my complaint has been handled, heard and actions taken by the management?
Say if the customer representative gave me a wrong information or mislead me, made a promised then refuses, what steps of actions should I do?

    What are you wanting to happen? It sounds like you want the representative to be punished. Or do you just want the company to make good on the promise?

    Be nice, then be firm, be dissatisfied, then be irritated. In that order. Don't forget the person behind the badge, who likely isn't being paid enough.

    If you didn't get a promise in writing then you really don't have much to make a stand on. You can put your complaint in writing as a valid option but if you were told (or decided to only hear) an unsustainable promise e.g. "90% sale off this car price", but didn't get the promised deal at time of payment, then you don't have much chance of getting traction.

    There's not enough info given to decide if this is a 'misleading conduct' issue or just a whinge.

    • If the promise was made in a phone call, perhaps the call was recorded. Depending on the organisation, there might be an ombudsman, and you may be able to request access to the recording. Optus sent me a USB stick containing the recording of a call once after I lodged a complaint.

    If you actually want an outcome and believe you are entitled to one, you should specify what outcome you would like. Don’t just expect them to come up with a solution.

    Key here though is being entitled to one. If you don’t have any proof, then it’s going to be difficult.
