Officeworks Clearance: Savoy Pleather Recliner & Ottoman - $99.47 Instore (Was $299)

360

Just saw four of these at the front door of the Oxley (QLD) Officeworks and also online however there's limited stock. Not leather but looks and feels pretty good. Not worth $299 in my opinion but could be perfect for $99.47 if you're in the market for something like this. Also available online but delivery is extra as they're classed as 'Big & Bulky' so aren't included in the 'Free Delivery' offer.

Bought this from OW 3 months ago for $96

    Great chair

    • how big is the box it comes in?

      • +4

Ha, I just saw the mesurements on one of the boxes in the pic I took while instore: 83 x 66 x 43cm

Should fit in most hatchbacks or wagons or even on the backseat of medium to large sedans (assuming that's why you're asking).

many bargains can be found at OW depends on your location. I bought these http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Furniture/Chai… for $10 ea and bought this http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/search/Philips+Wireless… for $23.73 last Sunday at OW southland. found plenty of Savoy Pleather Recliner & Ottoman there as well.

    • interested on the ottoman, was it in southland too?

    • double post.

    "Pleather" lol
Should have just called it iLeather and been done with it.

  • Might head down and check this out today, interested to see if this will work with my computer desk (if it is high enough).

Right now I just have a high back office chair which never reclines enough and half an old kmart computer chair as my foot rest under my desk.

  • Genuine Pleather. A rare creature. Hard to go past for that price! I'm in too!

  • Thanks O.P. There was about 10 left at the Cairns store when i got mine this morning.
Its quite comfy and doesn't look too bad either.

  • Anybody have one of these and uses it with their computer desk? I normally keep my chair down quite low already, but was just curious if this would be too low to comfortably use on a standard heigh computer desk?

  • the recliners are very short though…

Hi guys. I work at an Officeworks, but am not an official rep, just a lackie. Just letting you all know that this isn't designed to be an office chair unless you have a massive desk. It's more of a lounge/gaming type of chair. I personally wouldn't recommend it for an office chair.
One of the team coined it the "dead elephant chair" at my store because it's massive & grey, & not very attractive IMHO.

Thanks for the heads up. Good to have honest advise from an 'insider'.

Officeworks staff don't get commission, so most staff will give an honest opinion as there is no benefit to them not doing so.
In store I probably wouldn't say to a customer "here's the dead elephant chair, I don't like it much", but if a customer asked if I liked it I would reply with a more tactful "It's not my personal taste, but it isn't going in my house, & it is comfortable to sit on" so they could make their own decision.
I refuse to make decisions for customers as it can come back to bite. Instead I'll explain the pros & cons of each item & let them make an informed decision themselves.

  • time to replace my $25 plastic chair i'm sitting on right now :)

  • saw this in doncaster a month back for same price, I got turned off by the grey color though, wish it was black ><

  • Only the display one left in Oxley but have one broken leg on the chair! Then I went to Woolongabba and there were 2 left, bought one so only one left there…

    • There was a stack at the Windsor branch. Picked one up, took a short while to assemble. I'm sitting on it right now. Thanks OP!

  • I got the last one from Office Works in Vic Park, WA. Chair is a bit low to use one my computer all the time, but works out about right if I am gaming or watching a movie on the comp.

Thinking about getting 5 wheels (similar to what you see on other office chairs) and bolting it to the bottom of the chair to give it that extra height and also make it a bit easier to get onto at the desk.

please think about SAFETY,SAFETY AND SAFETY (O)

      • Always!

The chairs base is pretty sturdy and fairly wide plus it is made of wood so it will be fairly easy to bolt some wheels through the wooden base - worst case scenario if I get it attached and it just doesn't work I remove the wheels - use some wood putty to cover the holes and it becomes my reading chair.

Will post back in here with how it goes

        • The wooden legs are the problem. They flex from the pressure coming down the centre column when you sit on it, but the floor is one or two milimeters away (the ends are raised by the pads) so that's no problem. If you bolt the wheels on to the ends like a normal chair, the legs will keep flexing as the floor is now a few inches away, and eventually snap.

Ideally you need to create a "fake floor" or reinforce the legs first. That would give you some extra height too. You could probably just bolt on some cheap 70x35 structural pine and put the wheels closer to the center of it.

Do keep us updated on your conversion! :)
