Woolworths Mobile V Kogan Mobile

So I saw this kogan deal which provides 500Gb 365 days for $180. I think this is probably the best deal in cost:data ratio ignoring other factors. I am also aware that woolworths mobile has $180 for 180Gb but has two clear advantage:

  1. better reception?
  2. 10% off every month

I want to go for the woolworths but kogan just has more data and seems to be more worth it

  • woolies one is not using the full telstra network, so reception can be a bit hit and miss, so is Kogan with its vodafone network…
I commute via Sydney train everyday and when the train runs in the tunnel within CBD, Kogan tends to be much better than woolies.
But 10% off shopping at woolies is a big win if that's where you normally go.

  • One more thing, i think i may run into some issue with porting. My current sim (pre paid) is not under my name and date of birth. My understanding is that when porting over to woolies mobile they cross check date of birth. Does that mean I need to enter the date of birth on my current sim and can't put mine? but i can put my name on the woolies mobile.

If so, Can i then after porting to woolies, change my woolies date of birth back to my own?

    • You will need to do a change of ownership either before or after porting. For some carriers it is easier than others. I imagine if you go to Kogan it will be near impossible, not sure with Woolies. If you are with a tier A carrier now, probably better to do it before porting.

  • The 10% off woolies can make it effectively free if you shop regularly at Woolies. So that is a huge advantage. Kogan and Woolies both seem to have VoLTE/VoWifi which is nice, especially if you run into coverage issues at a place you normally have Wifi (home). I find Woolies pretty good rurally, and Voda sufficient in the city.

  • How much data do you need? Those are two pretty different numbers.

Consider taking a look at the coverage maps from each telco's website, compare them to your regular locations/commutes and see how they stack up.

  • i went from telstra to woolworth.
no different for me, except i save money :)

I just ported off Kogan. I had a Pixel and switched to iPhone and changing phones didn't help too much. I thought it was the Pixel. I'm currently on the Woolies network. Too early too tell but it already seems faster than Kogan's Voda network.

It was a bit annoying to port off Kogan because I had to make sure I selected Post Paid (even though it was prepaid) and use an Account Number. DOB didn't work.

    • Thanks for sharing it.

    • Just to correct you. Kogan Mobile is definitely Prepaid service. I just ported out from it to Boost Mobile as today is bonus data cut off day for old packs.

Side track - it seems kogan prepaid does not offer free or few bucks sim plan anymore, any alternative? Cheers

Lebara in the supermarket. Amaysim $30 may be under $5 after cashback sometimes.
