What Do You Have on Your Toast?

Toast is one of my favourite things to eat, I have it at least 10 times a week, so I'm interested in what most people put on their toast.

My favourite is peanut butter and honey with unsweetened Greek yoghurt on top. But I'm usually too lazy to buy yoghurt, so often just have butter and honey, or butter and fig jam. Not a fan of Vegemite.

Favourite bread to toast would be fresh Turkish bread or other European-style bread. Absolutely not a fan of soft Australian sliced bread like Tip Top, although it's better than nothing.

Only being allowed to vote on one topping is a bit restrictive.

Alot of people have two slices. For example I have peanut butter on one slice and hommus on the other slice or Vegemite and avocado.

@jv: I would need 4 accounts just to vote properly.

@Octopusgarden: I guess that is the workaround until Scotty implements checkboxes for polls.

            @jv: That makes sense, Cheers.

I agree; I had to choose between vegemite and avocado, in real life I have these together.

      • +2

        I have these together.

That is wasteful and potentially contributes to climate change.

        • +2

Not to mention how it destroys the ability to get on the housing ladder.

    I go commando…

    • +7

That would be uncomfortable with all the toast crumbs.

  • +2

You forgot the delicious black char or as some impolite chaps like to call "burnt toast"

  • +3

If it’s white bread toasted I enjoy putting tuna on half of it and then folding it over. The mix of cold and hot, crispy and soft and wet and dry is just so good.

Other than that… I do like scrambled eggs and bacon on toast, or eggs Benedict on sourdough toast… damn it now I feel like brunch food…

    • +2

Throw in some diced onion to the tuna, give it a stir and it tastes awesome

      • +1

        Damn that’s a good idea.

        • +2

Take it to next level with lemon juice and lemon zest

This one time I tried eating raw toast… totally uncooked.
I was worried about food poisoning, luckily it was a near miss but I don't think I'm game to try it again.

Thick layer of french mustard on toast for me is the only way.

    • +3

Raw toast, what made you think of that?

    • +2

"Raw toast isn't really in of itself dangerous but the factors that would make consuming it dangerous, would probably also make it in the form of toast less than ideal to consume. If your uncooked toast is unsafe to eat, then I wouldn't recommended eating it even if it were fully toasted. Humans have been eating raw toast for roughly 14,000 years or more living relatively normal lives with little or no negative effects at least from the raw toast itself. Humans normally call this raw toast bread. Before eating raw toast, you should look for abnormal spots of mold. If there is any mold on the toast, you should throw it out and not even bother toasting it as thats not simply a risk worth taking. If you see so much as a spot of mold, the whole thing is no good. Microscopic mold although visable in specific spots may more than likely be covering the whole loaf making it unsafe to eat"

    KAYA

    • hell yes to this also!

    • I had to look up what this was - never heard of it before.

      • staple in most Malaysian or Singaporean households.

      • I just looked it up too. Sounds yummy. Can you buy it in Colesworth?

        • +1

Available in Woolies, Tong Li and Amazon.

    • +1

      Kaya + butter

    • Kaya is correct but the search engine needs know it's food. So Google 'Kaya Toast'. Recipe is readily available for DIY you don't want to eat those factory made prefilled with starch and bulk fillers. It's pretty labour intensive, have to keep stirring while it's cooked so a little jar cost money.

Kaya + Butter(unmelted) goes well with both white and wholemeal.

Btw Coconut Jam sounds so wrong. That's what Jamie Oliver uses Chilli Jam.

Avocado all the way with a little black pepper and sea salt flakes.

At least once a week with a soft poached egg and hollandaise plus rocket.

    • take the hollandaise off and finely cut basil or spread pesto on the bread

    • +1

Feta and balsamic vinegar with the avo is great too

  • +2

Burgen (or any dark rye) and liverwurst is delicious. Can also add a boiled egg on top. Pair with a long black.

  • +2

Peanut butter + strawberry jam and butter on top :)

  • +2

Kaya and butter is the only way

  • Yogurt!

  • No Kaya?….noobs…

  • Real Strayans have Vegemite, maybe some butter with it.

  • i dont eat toast
i have Nutulla but a bit of toast on top……

  • +1

Just plain butter. And spicy mayo, bacon, egg, a slice of American cheese, a fried tomato slice, and another slice of toast on top.

"What Do You Have on Your Toast?"

I once caught it making love to the Vegemite jar.

  • Hummus & Olive oil.

  • soft Australian sliced bread like Tip Top

There is nothing Australian about that american-style garbage.

  • True pinnacle of toast is fresh sourdough with butter, Vegemite, and avocado.

  • +1

If you really want to know, I only have butter and vegemite on my wholemeal toast.
However, if I am having English muffins, I will put butter and apricot jam on it.
If I am having Golden pancakes, then it's butter or nutella.

    FYI.

Will only have strawberry jam if I am having scones.
If I am having a snack, then it's wholemeal toast with butter, Sirena tuna in chilli oil and cracked black pepper.

  • Surprised no one's put Biscoff up yet. Crunchy is the way.

Otherwise, lunch toast snack - rip open a can of mussels and smoosh them down with a fork, add some salt, pepper and lemon. Or liverwurst, but it's getting harder to find in regular supermarkets now.

  • Bonox.

  • Had sardines on a piece of toast about a month ago.

  • Having toast 10 times a week?!

If you are not doing sliced bread, do you mean rosetta rolls with cream cheese and smoked salmon?

    Fried eggs? Bacon roll?

  • Er. I have no words for you other than sort out your diet dude.

  • sardines and pineapple

  • cheese

  • The blood of my enemies.

  • Mostly Vegemite, sometimes jam, sometimes peanut butter and honey, sometimes lemon curd.

Why limit yourself to having the same topping every time?

  • I stopped eating bread at all. Win.

    • Good move. Raw toast is disgusting.

  • Recently I learnt about garlic confit - nice with avocado spreads and half boiled eggs. A little work if you have the time.

  • I have multiple slices with different toppings - depending what mood I am in, I'll have a slice either with Honey, Peanut butter, Vegemite, jam, Nutella or even just with butter.

If I am having more of a meal, then I'll have baked beans or scrambled eggs.

  • I always have butter and chocolate sprinkles. Yum!!

  • No Toast. No Carbs

  • Jalapeños Tuna on white toast.

  • As lunch, avocado, tomato and cheese and sometimes add Vegemite.

I'd I have made lemon butter (curd), then I love that. Mainly because it is a change. Peanut butter and honey or peanut butter, jam and cheese.

Sometimes I have a breakfast of eggs (poached or scrambled) on toast. If it's poached, there will be some spinach, tomato and some type of cheese and/or sauce.

  • "Brown for first course, white for pudding. Brown's savoury, white's the treat. Course I'm the one who's laughing because I actually love brown toast."

  • the garlic from the jar, hot sauce, peanut butter and jam

  • Sometimes it has to be Vegemite, sometimes it has to be marmalade. I’m just that sort of dynamic person.

    Lunchon meat

  • Have some fave go to:

Mayvers dark roasted extra crunchy, sliced green apple, pumpkin seeds

Vegemite, avo, fried egg, chilli sauce

    salted butter and honey

  • Freshly chopped garlic on sourdough with butter

  • hi hihihi forum.

op thankyou for such a well considered question.

best thing you can have is peanut butter topped with tomato and some salt and pepper. it will change your life.

    • -1

      it will change your life.

YES, when you go into anaphylactic shock

unfortunately, like many we are a no nut household.

  • Marg and jam….but usually find some dog hair in there too 😟

  • Give miso butter a try & thank me later

  • Fried Egg and soy sauce for me.

  • 2 slices: One with peanut butter and jam and another with just vegitmite

Other times I have sourdough with chopped avo and salmon like I just ate.

  • i have a thick block of cold butter sandwiched between 2 slices of toast.

  • Butter then sprinkle sugar. Wash down with some black coffee. Satisfying.
