Exped Megamat 10 LXW Camp Mat $245 Delivered @ Adventure Gear Albury

230

First time poster here. Seems to be a good deal. RRP: $369.99.

Description NEW 2018 Model with New Sidewinder Storage BAG
The birth of a new mat generation, Exped have developed the Mega Mat with 3D technology which means that you get a completely level sleeping surface. As the mat is flat to the outer edge, two mats fit together perfectly and use fabric grommets to hold in place.

Flat Valve Technology: Exped is the first manufacturer worldwide to incorporate these durable, easy to use valves in selfinflating mats. Two flat valves, one for inflation and one for deflation are found in the mat. One-way flaps on the valves hinder air from escaping during inflation, as „selfinflating mats“ usally need a couple of breaths of air for top-up and prevent air from re-entering during deflation and roll-up. Flat in design, non protruding, of soft PU and without sharp edges makes these valves more durable than traditional ones.

Features

Super soft but durable fabric: the resilient polyester tricot fabric with embossed honeycomb structure is comfortable next to skin and slip resistant. The laminated air block film is of PU-Ether It is absolutely hydrolysis resistant making it leak proof even if humidity accumulates during inflation.
Horizontal air channels cored through the ultralight foam make these mats extremely light considering their thickness.
The filling: our new ultralight open celled PU foam weighs 13 kg/m3. Naturally free of contaminants (e.g. CFK) and fulfills the Ökotex 100 Norm.
Seams are high frequency welded and durable.
The included pack sack is dimension for easy packing. Can also be used a pillowcase when filled with spare clothing.
Included: repair kit with adhesive and fabric patches

Are you thick? This megamat is.

        Are you thick?

        Not since cutting out carbs.

        Are you ?

I've got the Megamat duo and it's fan-bloody-tastic. If there's one thing you want while camping is a comfortable place to sleep, and after years of using shitty beds I finally bought one of these and never looked back.

    • +1

Ditto- the best camping purchase I ever made. 5 years later and mine is still going strong.

  • I have the double version, it's fantastic for any camping where your not carrying it in.

Considering getting this single as well to use inside my single swag. Never found a swag with a good mattress. This in a swag would be the ultimate nights sleep with the advantage of making the swag smaller when rolled.

  • How different is this to the Anaconda equivalent?

The dune one is terrible quality, it will delaminate within a couple of years even if you treat it really well.

Exped (and therm-a-rest) have much better quality products. They are more expensive to buy upfront, but much cheaper in the long run as they will last a decade or more. I have 2 therm-a-rest's that are 35 years old and are in perfect working condition.

I'm not wealthy enough to buy cheap poor quality gear.

    • Exped a kilo a bit lighter…

I have the Exped, Dune and Zempire Monstamat, all bought at different times on sale for different family members. All have the same dimensions. I had all of them between 2-3.5 years.
The Dune mat is fine, I don't have the delamination issue, I've had that one the longest.
Sleeping on them, you don't notice which one you are on. The Exped one is the lightest and packs up the smallest.
Dune is the heaviest and packs up least compact.
To inflate, Exped is the slowest and Monstamat the fastest. I have to manually inflate the Exped mat thanks get them to the correct hardness I like, I don't have to do that with the other 2 mats.
Exped mat has the best quality valves to inflate and deflate.

      • Is this the red Supreme Dune or the regular grey Dune ?

I have the regular Dune and they go for about $50 on sale…

        • I have the red supreme one

      • Interesting you have the issue with the exped being slow to inflate; do you store yours packed up or inflated?

I've had a megamat for a little while now and when went camping the other week the better half borrowed a friends Dune self inflate (the basic grey one). Couldn't believe the difference in them. The dune was huuuuuge in the bag (and a pain to get in or out), weighed twice as much, and although it had only been used a couple times it had already delaminated massively on the top which meant putting any air in it above atmo caused this huge bubble to appear on top of it.

It also didn't self inflate at all, but I think that's a lot to do with it sitting stored in the bag. I stash the megamat behind a door in our apartment so it's stored inflated. When I roll it out and throw it in the tent it draws in enough air to shape itself in 15-20min. I don't run it super firm so a few extra pumps with the little pump is all it needs to be ready to go.

Needless to say when we got back from the trip and saw that snowys had the exped on sale again we ordered another one for the better half. Can't speak to the red dune one, it at least seems a bit more reasonable size/weight wise but I definitely have no regrets paying for the megamat.

        • I store all my mats inflated as well, under our beds

      • Thanks for the comparison, that was just what I was after. Lots of people say the Exped is great but haven't owned others so it's hard to tell what they're basing their recommendation on.

I bought the red Dune in 2020 and don't have any delamination issues but I lent it to a friend and got it back with a leak that I can't locate, so I'm back in the market for a replacement. The flush valve on the Exped looks like it'll resist damage so that's a plus. I'm still wondering if it's worth that much more than a Dune or even a Kings though, seeing that comfort is the same.

  • All the hype is true.

      For Valentine's night?

Dude, I've had to buy a new mattress today.

Just buy this if you want to enjoy camping. Have spent 100+ nights on mine, best investment in camping gear ever.

  • Bit of a noob to camping. Wife did research and we got a 2nd-hand Zempire Monstamat because the PU was "bonded". Is this also bonded and compares well to Monstamat?

Frustrating to see the cost increases over time.

I bought the megamat duo via ozb, 5 years ago… I'm sure I paid $280 or $299 for it.

Now it's $245 for the single!!!

    • Frustrating to see the cost increases over time.

I think you'll find that applies to literally everything. :)
      (well almost)

  • +2

I use the zempire monstamat. Works brilliantly and only $199 for the single. I think its Aussie made vs euro for the exped

    • It's the king single Monstamat, which is more expensive, that had the same dimensions as the Exped megamat

  • Yes agree with others, worth the money if car camping (not for hiking of course).

Would 100% buy again have had mine for over 5 years without issue.

  • I agree too, a complete camping game changer and handy for sleeping at friends houses.

  • Get the deluxe sea to summit one. Lifetime warranty and Australian

    • Do you have a link to a good price?

    Thanks OP, bought a couple.

The missus bought 2 x $20 air mattresses from Aldi prior to our last camp…. Thankfully it was only one night as they immediately deflated and the worst sleep I've ever had.

These might be much more expensive, but @frugalferret said it best, "I'm not wealthy enough to buy cheap poor quality gear."

Looks like you bought the last ones! It's now $369.99.
