    (battery health 60% and above)

    Uh oh

    • Yikes, 60% is pretty low. Also I think degradation accelerates below about 80%

      • How do u check battery degradation?

        • +2

You can download and install HWINFO to get the battery wear level or you run a battery report using the Windows Command Prompt

          powercfg /batteryreport

It should generate a html file

    • On the other hand, easy to replace in future.

      • Maybe. I was looking for an internal battery for X270 and it is impossible to find one unless you want to take chances with AliExpress.

No, it's not. The batteries with the t480 are very fiddly. You need specific model numbers and manufacturer batteries for it to work properly. I've been through this whole thing before, you can't find the specific battery I need anywhere

        • What? The external battery is a straight swap, the internal is about 10 minutes to swap over if you know that you're doing. Never had trouble finding the batteries before but haven't used that model for a few years.

      • I've been told that Aliexpress replacements are pretty much always non-genuine and risk issues. I've been using one on my mine and it's started sometimes jumping down from 40% to 6% randomly.

Genuine external from Lenovo costs like $180AUD… Might be able to get it cheaper importing from US; I can't remember.

        • I have a T480 right next to me, and I tried finding a genuine internal/external battery just now out of curiosity.

I used lenovo's website to find the part numbers for the internal/external batteries.

EMPR Australia states is an authorized distributor for lenovo (haven't checked if that's for sure). The official external lenovo battery is $184.36 from them, pretty much what you said:

          https://store.emprgroup.com.au/ProductSearch.aspx?searchterm…

I tried looking up the other part substitute part numbers Lenovo provides, but they all seem to redirect to the same battery 01AV422

The internal battery 01AV489 costs $154.21 on that website.

I'm not sure of any other websites which state they are authorized distributors in Australia.

          • @drojf: Oof, that's more than I expected these days. I'd definitely be going for a generic.

Well noted, but for the kids homework in a space constrained environment on mains power this will work well.

  • I just want one of these refurb deals with a screen better than 45% NTSC 😭

    • Even buying the latest T14 models new i never see anything but 45% NTSC listed. You'd be better off buying and swapping the panel yourself

      • I had no idea that was even a thing

  • Battery’s are about 70$ each to replace for my t470 . Beware also I don’t think the laptop comes with any smart feature that won’t keep the battery topped up all the time if it was plugged in all the time

    • On my T480, you can set the charge thresholds in Lenovo Vantage (as well as swapping the CTRL/Fn keys)
