  • Can this ladder bend like this 🪜?

    • Ofcourse not. This Gorilla ladder it's aluminium.

      • Cool. Thanks.

      • +3

they make aluminum ones that do this

  • +2

Sounds like such a great deal but wishing it was shorter. Because i’m not sure how many times i would need to climb so far above and over the house…

    • +26

Time to get a taller house obviously…

Ohh it also handles 130kg, so gain some weight if you like (presumptuous, I know)

      • +3

This is OzB so more like need to lose some weight.

    • Wait for a promo on a dremmel

    • climb so far above and over the house…

Now you can say, you have Harbour views and increase the value of your house.

    • +1

      i wish it was a hamburger since i don’t need a ladder

      • Why would you use a hamburger to climb onto your roof?

        • +1

          just wishing bro

  • +1

Being almost 8m tall, do you need some sort of stabiliser to make sure it doesn't slide sideways?

    • +5

      Ask your Mrs

    • +5

I have the Gorilla 3.1-5.3m version of this extension ladder. I got the matching Gorilla stabilisers (that unfortunately Bunnings doesn't sell) and also a ladder helper, so it is super safe, even thought it takes a while to set up correctly.

That being said you can never be too careful on an extension ladder!

      • Or any ladder. See: Molly meldrum

    • I'd just tie it off at the top and the bottom.
Move a roof tile and tie to a beam.
Remove a sheet metal screw for a longer one.

You want a longer ladder so you can maintain contact easier when getting on or off. Use it like a hand rail.

The stabilisers can be quite heavy and aren't a substitute for two fixing points. I'd be using a body harness with a fall restraint if you think climbing an unsteady ladder is difficult

  • I’m needing a ladder to get up 2 Stories high so about 6m on my house, will measure with the laser beam but this might just reach I imagine once the angle is considered. Wondering how does one keep this in place when climbing so high , so they don’t die !! Does it hook over a gutter?

    • +4

Ladders don't come with hooks. You can buy various safety apparatus like…

      Ladders Little Helper
      or
      Lock Jaw Ladder Grip

Setting the ladder on a solid flat surface is the first step.

If you really are new to ladders though I'd watch a couple of safety videos.

    • +18

If you don't know how to safely use an extension ladder, then there is no point buying this ladder.

Ladder falls are the most common DIY injury and 1 in 10 falls result in brain injury.

      • +1

So if I fall off the bottom rung 10 times I'll get brain damage?

      • 1 in 10… Sounds like we're getting more fun commenters on OZbargain

    • +2

Wondering how does one keep this in place when climbing so high , so they don’t die !!

Seriously - if you don't know the answer to this, then don't climb a 7.6m ladder.

  • Dumb question but is there a way to gauge the height of a house before buying the ladder?

    • iPhone has a measuring app

      • +1

Old school, just shoot out your measuring tape, or the modern solution is to grab a laser distance measurer

    • +1

Measure the ceiling height from the inside that should give you an indication.

    • +4

count the bricks, then multiply your answer by 1 brick length plus a mortar line above it.

      • +1

Standard brick gauge is 82mm. 72mm high brick, 10mm bed of mortar.

Just a guide. Other gauges are used as required.

  • How would ou transport this at 4.3m long? You would need a truck.

    • +7

      Roof racks?

    • +5

      walk

    • get a 4.4m ladder

  • +2

If you're near Batemans Bay NSW or Bayswater VIC they might have it in the store so you can try before you buy.

    https://nrby.in/bunnings/0860964

    • I'm in Batemans Bay, maybe I'll have a look

    • uses ladder to scale to top of the bunnings rack

      aye this ladder goes alright

    • so anyone successful buying one?

  • +1

have 2 of these on site , use daily, hate that sagging cord so much.

    • +1

can you tell us why? I need a decent extendable ladder for work

      thanks

    • What is wrong with the cord? Does it get stuck?

      • +2

Cord has no issues really, it's just not taught. If you're mindful when moving or carrying it's no issue but could get snagged on things.
Also when storing or loading you have to be mindful of where it is.
Easily solved with some removable cable ties or something like that.

        • ok understood

          thanks for the reply

  • This item are significantly over priced

    • +1

      can you share why?

      • there is no rocket science to make it using aluminium section in this product… they simply gouging on it and that is why they are now selling at roughly 50% discount but i am sure they are making huge margin on that as well so think those who bought this at full price ? probably they are the people who nagging on my comment… !

i bought one from kogan (from ebay store) $136 4.7m height …. obviously didn't wait for shopback offer else it would be much cheaper as well.. !

obviously since master collapsed (thanks to Woolworths) … bunnings started their usual ripping off aussie as there is no competition at their level.. !

        • so what, make your own? do without?

        • @SydBoy Had a look. I can't see a Kogan one that goes to 7+ metres. Can you share link please. Also needs to have the roll-lock. At longer lengths the telescopic ones are not sturdy enough

          • @freesteakknives: I bought the one below which is not telescopic as I can't trust my 100kg weight on them.

I have not used mine yet but it looks good and better than telescopic.

Only time will tell how long mine last and how durable it is but it hopefully be ok for my home DIY stuff

            https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/134401205414

        • AT Sydney Tools, which often has competetive pricing it is priced at $662

It may be a bit overpriced but it may also be decent build quality

  • +2

And I thought ladders were going up

  • Wow. 130kg. That’s a very heavy ladder

    • +1

Its load rated to 130kg, Which is generally enough for 1 person + Tool belt etc.

  • +1

Thanks for posting op, bit large but the price is right if you need this kind of height.

  • I needed a 6.5m ladder recently. Sydboy is right, their price has increased significantly recently. I ended up buying a good S/H one for $100.

  • +2

This ladder is $45.92pm. This deal was better $ per metre at $35.23pm.

Is this how we equate value to ladders? 😂

Else one could say that extra 1.1m of reach (7.6m-6.5m) cost $120.

    • I'd swap mine from the previous deal and pay the difference for this one. Worth it.

      • Bigger is always better?

  • Does bunnings do delivery?

is this fold one OK for occasional use like twice a year?

    • +1

I'm a tradie and used these types of folding ladders on occassion when the home owner has one laying around. They're awful especially when they've been laying around outside and springs have rusted up. The one you linked is 7.7m and the is NO WAY i'd be getting up one of those. I've got the Gorilla Mighty 19 - 5.8m and at full reach there's a bit of play and they're built much better than the ebay / informercial ones.

    • +1

How much is your life worth?
I have a gorilla extension with stabilisers and even that its got a hint of shakiness… but this ebay one you linked looks like it'll melt in the sun! Don't do it!

  • +4

If you buy the ladder, make sure you buy this - its $100 - will stop a trip to the hospital….

    https://lockjawladdergrip.com.au/

    Bunnings sell them. Aussie invention

    • I wish they made something like this with a wider opening to fit the fascia on concealed/box gutters.

    • @eagleanthony But you will need two right, so $200?

  • It is either a mistake from Bunnings or a strategy to get you to the store and sell you something else. They do not have this ladder in their range anymore and cannot sell it.

    • But they have it on their website. So they should have it. Did you go at Bunnings Special Order Desk and tried to order one and said that they don't stock it?

      • no longer available at special order desk

  • "This item is no longer available to buy online or in-store."

    • And then it writes

Bunnings Special OrderThis item is not stocked in-store. Order it from the special Orders desk in-store or Online
