I thought my name will come up!

This one I think will be ok to invest in provided you be happy to hold 5 years plus. However due to its size and the high value I wouldn't recommend to sell this online due to the amount of scammers around.

eBay will not help you if something goes south.

Have a read at this before committing:

Not any time soon a few more years at least, designers from LEGO have already said this set should always be available.

  • I have the replica Lego. Bought it just prior to covid overseas. $100 and bought a few others. Can’t tell the difference. I’m sure if you’re an expert and look with a magnifying glass you can discern slight differences but to the naked eye you’d save yourself $900 just on the millennium Falcon

    • Lepen or another one?

I said I bought it when overseas. In Hong Kong actually. Got the falcon, tie fighter and some massive iron man one for my son. Came with every piece surprisingly. My son lost something in the years since but real Lego also fit it. Back then I could get Adelaide to hk return virgin for $500 so had my flights and Lego and $400 spare over buying legit Lego. Would never waste my money on Lego now when replica is a bargain

Visit R/Lepin on reddit to get the latest advice. That's how I bought mine a few years back and its top notch. The factory that made mine got raided and shut down though so I'm not sure who the top dogs are anymore.

Also the glory days of cheap lepin (or other brands) are over, last time I checked falcons were up to like 3-400aud on aliexpress, which is usually only a bit more expensive than private middlemen who offer better quality assurance but requires more effort.

not much difference between the lepin and lego sets, other than build instructions,.

          • @eman resu: I know.

The main differences are that they don't have Lego studd imprints and on some of the early versions they skip unique peices. They also don't quite have the same connection "feel".
I dislike Lego as a company but their quality assurance is on a different planet to anyone else.

    • You would wish you had purchased original one. After 10 years when its expired 🤣

        What do you mean expired?

        • Out of date. Like when your milk sits in your fridge for too long it will expire.

I have a gen UCS snowspeeder and a fake UCS y wing. Guess which one has discoloured the worst..

      • +2

Only if you bother with the flipping BS.
Not everyone turns anything into an investment you know.

I know I can't ever see myself selling my two Simpsons sets even though one is still unopened in the box …

(I don't own any knock-off brands, but for someone after some fun and a bit of a display I don't blame 'em for going that way)

        • +1

Damn it. No one could get the pun. 😔

    • Lepin Millennium Falcon that I can find, no way $100, they all at least US$250+ online !!!

      • They either got it second hand, or are over exaggerated the price. Even pre covid these were $200 usd or more new (for the fake). Unless they got the non UCS set.

    • Not sure why the downvotes. I got the MouldKing one a few years back and glad I did. Perfect build and saved me a good $700 or so. Unless you buy these to on sell what does it matter?

    • Do they have other sets like the razor crest?

    • I have the replica Lego. Bought it just prior to covid overseas. $100 and bought a few others. Can’t tell the difference.

No, you absolutely can tell the difference if you're not completely in denial that Lepin/Decool/Mould King is usually garbage.

      • No outer box.
      • No numbered bags.
      • Knock-off manual with Chinglish and/or misspelled sticker sheets.
      • Zero after-sales support or warranty.
      • Missing pieces, broken pieces, the wrong pieces for your set, bent or deformed pieces with no parts replacement policy from the seller.
      • Weak brick clutch with some parts refusing to stay together and requiring super-glue.
      • Weird oily residue on bricks.
      • Poor brick tolerances leading to pieces not fitting together as intended.
      • Supporting the scummy Chinese clone and counterfeiting industry.
      • Good write-up on Lepin's piss-poor quality control here.
      • +1

Other than supposed weak clutch I don't care about anything else

        • Good for you but that doesn't negate the fact that the whole tHeRe's nO dIfFeRenCes!1!! argument constantly made by counterfeit Lego fanboys is complete nonsense.

Some of us prefer our Lego sets not to fall apart by themselves and not to find numerous pieces missing that we have to sources ourselves.

  • +2

r/lepin would like to have a word with you sir.

    • +1

Difference is you can built this, display it, then sell it when you're bored for 90% of the original price. Better than spending 300-400 on a lepin model and it being almost a total write off.

      • -2

Na difference is this looks so good made I could put a photo on marketplace and sell it for $200 when I only paid $100. Could prob get more

        • You can't get it for 100 in Australia though. So I'm not sure how that's relevant.

Lepin might get there one day, who knows. But Lego is there right now, where people even buy sets as an investment (lol - not recommended). Great for normal consumers when you're done with it and can get a great price.

          • +1

@nigel deborah: It's still $1,000 for what is at the end for the day a single toy. For $1,000 this thing better do light speed past warp 6 or whatever it is Han says in that scene.

            • @AustriaBargain: It's a lot of money, yeah, agree. But if you enjoy it, maybe it's worthwhile. I'm just arguing it's a better value proposition at the moment than lepin.

People drop more money on all kinds of subjective things. Nicer furniture, wall art, golf clubs, whatever. All 'useless' to someone who isn't interested, doesn't mean not worthwhile to someone. Personally I wouldn't buy a $1000 dollar set, but I've enjoyed some smaller ones (very meditative) and some of them can make cool decorations.

    • r/lepin would like to have a word with you sir.

I'm pretty certain the Lepin brand specifically is no more after their factories/warehouses were raided by the police in China back in 2019.

  • You can get it even cheaper on ebay with ebay plus from some sellers

  • I've seen the build of it in person
I want it (puts the $150 version I have to shame)

But… 1) I have no space for it

    And. .

    2) it's so massive I'd stuff up the build at some point haha.

    • It's LEGO, there's no stuffing up, just rebuild for the fun of it! 🤪

      • Haha but its so deflating. The 89 Batmobile is what got me back into Lego in 2020, but I stuffed it up so many times it was frustrating to the max! First boo boo was getting one side perfect and the other side lopsided lol. I backtracked and fixed it (almost back to the start!). At least my following mistakes were toward the end of the build.

I enjoyed the Batmobile so much I purchased it again to build it again (also to have a second one on display!).

    • +1

It is a massive yet simple if not slightly boring build. It is divided in reasonably size sections so pretty hard to stuff it up.

Magnificent set if you have somewhere to display it, but yes it is MASSIVE so think twice if you have no space.

      • I'd also love to build the Titanic but again no space!!! I will live vicariously through other people who have it on display in their homes!

  • +1

I finally got round to building this one, it’s very disappointing how fragile this thing is, that said I did enjoy the build.

  • good doorstop 6months after build

  • I would love the build one of these, but I sure don’t want it afterwards.

  • Rude

  • Thanks, bought 2.

  • I have the mid 2000s millennium falcon. Is that one worth more than this one?

    • If it's the 10179 Millenium Falcon can sell for over $4000 if its brand new

  • +2

Fark !!! (no offence to those into this sort of thing) but I can't fathom why extruded bits of plastic which build a model in this shape cost so much.

Is it technically worth the money or is Lego making you pay what they think you will pay?

    • +1

I think it's hard to see, but once you've seen this in person, it's quite sizeable. If you've seen a lot of other toys, and their quality, this set is okay-ish value when on sale. But in these climates, it's probably not worth it, when you want to be putting food on the table instead of plastic on the table.

    • Lego is expensive for sure, but I find myself being amzed at the quality of the stuff. I still have lego from my childhood so its now 45 years old. It is still in perfect, and i mean PERFECT condition. Same colour, same shape and still fits EXACTLY with the stuff of today. My son uses it now and it will probably still be around when he has a son. It almost feels like Lego and cockroaches would be the only thing to survive a nuclear holocaust. Lol. But yeah. For a toy that you can still be playing with in 10/20/30/50 years, the value is pretty amazing. You can bulid and display or build and break down and rebuild 1000 times and it will still work. I'm just a fairly average user, dont even really build myself these days, but still think its pretty cool. And to put it perspective, my son also plays a card game called MTG. Apparently there are single cards worth $1000s out there. So yeah. Definitely also about what people are willing to pay.

    • Also think of how much value you place on doing something that you enjoy and can shutout the world, its real value is greater than the sum of the parts.

  • $570 for the knock-off, but be careful, you are warned at point (2) that you can not eat it:
    Product information:

    • Surely if you're willing to spend almost $600 you're better off spending the additional $400 on the proper thing

  • How do we know if a Lego set is going to be retired soon?

  • $50 off $200 spend this weekend. Special offer on select toys.

  • It's my birthday in an hour. Someone tell me that I don't need this!
