  • Please watch this first, and probably do not buy this headphone.

Strong argument to be made you shouldn't pay more than $130, either, especially if you bother to tag the product model correctly.

Excellent headphones, but that price doesnt look like a great deal! I have one for around 6-7 years now - got it for around $190 at the time. The leather will disintegrate after a while and may need replacing - but the sound quality is awesome!

I second this; these are the most comfortable pair of headphones I've owned and not so expensive that you have to be too careful while using them daily 😅. They sound great using just a phone and even better driven using a dedicated amp (THX789). Definitely not flat sounding as it has a V shaped sound signature which I enjoy more often than not. I’ve had mine (basic black version) for about 7 years now, have changed the headband and the pads since then and will probably continue to do so until they break or die haha!

      • V-shaped? Try W… the tonality of these is an affront to the word.

The sound engineers who swear by these also immediately EQ it, and they also don't use it for soundstage and their own casual listening.

      • What headband and pads would you recommend? I have stopped using my pair after the headband started to have those little (synthetic) leather pieces fall off.

Same thing happened to my headband. I got this headband protector, works really well, trivial to install and band looks as new:

          Headphone Protector Headband Fabric for Audio Technica M30 M40 M50 M50X M50S M40X Headphone https://amzn.asia/d/6ozTFpT

And got these pads from the Audio Technica Web store:

@aguitarfreak: Cheers! Will get them and bring new life to my cans! I actually like them a lot if not for the beat-up headband and the head clamping when I wear them.

Did you have to peel/shave all the lose leather off before you put on the headband protector?

Picked up one of these years ago when my headband started showing signs of degrading, haven't looked back.

      • I think I have the same! Works really well 👍

  • I have the M50s bought around 10 years ago and it still functions perfectly. These things are built like a tank.

    • Yeah I have a set I got in 2012 which I still use daily while I work. I have changed the pads and gotten a neoprene sleeve to cover the top because it was flaking apart but I reckon they'll last as long as me heh

  • Are the BT equivalent the same build quality?
