One of the cheaper prices in recent memory. Not bad too if you are ok with 256 GB. I'm going to have to disagree with the descriptions claim about a long-lasting battery. I have this phone, and the battery life ain't great if you are using the big screen. Which is kinda the whole point. The phone itself is fantastic, but you need to be ok with having it tethered to a charger in my experience.

Description

  • have this phone, and the battery life ain't great if you are using the big screen.

    How bad?

    • -2

The small screen is pretty small for most things and the big screen is also very fragile.
      I won't recommend this phone.

      • +4

        Disklike by Samsung sales.

  • +3

Had mine about a year and i love it! Front screen is obviously an adjustment coming from standard phones but it feels a lot better and more normal over time.
Battery life if you're a fairly heavy user will drain quick and probably need a top up but i work 9-10 hours a day and i check my phone every now and then and use it on break and still come home with an average of like 50%? Definitely excited for the fold 5.

I was considering this but then Samsung rep made me worry about sand and dirt getting into the hinge. Any thoughts for/from people who hit the beach often on how well this phone works with those situations?

    • +1

I hit the beach often I just leave it in the car .. don't really need your phone on the beach

      • +2

I take photos of the kids when at the beach. Dont want to get another camera for this since the phone cameras are amazing now a days.
Seems this is not the phone for me. Thanks for feedback.

    • +3

Yep. Don't. Sand and this phone do not play well together.

Waiting for ZFold 4 to be this price…

    • HODL for fold 4 deals also

  • +6

Go for the Fold 4. Front screen is ever so slightly bigger but noticeable and feels like a normal full screen phone

    • Yep, Z Fold 4 is amazing, front screen feels normal to use.

  • -5

got the fold 4 (from EDU) back in novemeber for $1400 (1275 after TRS), which makes fold 3 for 1200 a mediocre deal, sorry op :)

    • +5

Edu isn't the norm for a lot of people.

      • +4

Let alone TRS claim (which shouldn't have been allowed since the phone came back to aus)

        • -3

It is allowed if more than 1 person is travelling together. They can pool in their $900 per person limit.

    • Was this from some trade in deal?

  • +4

My friend has one of these. Pretty sweet, love how it opens into a small tablet. If I wasn’t an iPhone guy I’d definitely have one of these Samsung Fold phones.

A lot of people complain about the “crease” but I reckon you’d get used to it just like the “notch”.

  • Waiting for fold 6….seriously

Samsung after sale warranty service is poor based on my experience. $1k+ outlay can be a large sum for some so choose and decide wisely. Just go to Samsung Australia facebook page to review some comments too. It is really a typical large company with mindset of a small company.

    • +2

Samsung Electronics Australia has received the Most Satisfied Customers award from Canstar Blue for its smartphone category.

      • +2

Dont believe so much about those rating agencies. I was very satisfied with Samsung because everything worked well untill it breaks this time which is still under warranty. We all say tge best time to judge a company is when something goes wrong. When it happens to me, Samsung fails to respond with a satisfactory resolution.

        • I was surprised when I read that as well. I thought April had come early.

    • +2

Had an issue with my phone. Tried to book online but no suitable times went in store and they did the assessment and sent it off then and there. Got the phone back the next day.

Got emails and SMS updates along the way too.

I think Samsung service improved a lot in recent years, My experience was on time and always updated with the progress and returned it in reasonable time frame.

    • +1

I'd have to agree with this based on a previous experience years ago with S7 edge. It developed a pink line down the screen a year later and it was a common problem with the phone. They didn't want to know me and didn't fix the problem. I've remembered that experience and never bought a Samsung phone again (except for a $300 S20FE5G)

Have this phone, front screen has been repaired once, the case i have on it (with hinge protection is slippery AF) and there are currently two bubbles in the inner screen protector which i assume will need to be repaired via samsung. I was lucky enough to get quite a hefty discount on a s23 ultra so i've purchased one and will send it off for likely repair after i get the 23 ultra.

    • +1

They will generally suggest that you take it in for service if you can, or else they'll likely sort you out with postage to send it back. My screen protector started cracking and peeling outside its one year replacement guarantee time, and I live hours away from the nearest service centre. So I just took the thing off. If you read the phone print on the Samsung website, it indicates that this does not affect your warranty. There is also an option for you to replace it yourself, which I ultimately would have done had I not decided to upgrade to the ultra as well.

    • +2

Yes Samsung should cover this under warranty via their authorised service centre. I took mine to a Samsung store but I think you can post it in as well.

Did this when i got my Fold 4 so I could sell the Fold 3 with a nice new screen protector. Hoping the Fold 4doesnt have this issue. But even if it does hopefully the Fold 5 will be out by then to be my new replacement

      • Will take it to samsung, i just need the time :(

        • +1

you'll have plenty of time after taking it to Samsung as once the phone is taken they don't contact you. All i hear is still under repair/now it has been forwarded to VOC team, i will escalate this issue and nothing happens. I went back to the store, they say its only the dropping point, they can't/won't do anything, phone the repairer, they said they have escalated to the VOC team, called the number they say a manager will contact me in 1-2 business days, chat service the same. So far, it has been two weeks, everyone keeps telling me that they have escalated the case, the case manager will contact me in 1-2 business days, i wonder what are their business days equivalent to ? 1 business day = 1 month ?

    • Do you mind sharing how you got the hepty discount

      • +1

Previously worked at a major telco and still have connections there lol

  • +1

Thanks op, bought 1, only one left, be quick everyone!

This price is decent (IMO) for a flagship Samsung phone.

I didn't get my Note10+ for too much less than this, albeit much closer to it's release date, and that took a lucky PM sitch..

I'd buy this as an iterative upgrade, since I'm carrying a phone with a bit of age on it now. I just don't think I trust the fold design just yet, especially if compared to how refined the Note series is.

I feel like a Fold vs. Note is potentially a compromise on:
    a) IP rating
    b) durability
    c) hinge/fold affecting contour of the screen
    d) marginally smaller battery capacity, with higher draw and lower charge life
    e) camera not at the same top premium level
    f) lower PPIs

Aside from form factor, can ppl give some feedback on whether they'd recommend going from a traditional Note to a Fold?
