  • Same price in WA so I presume nation wide.

Doesn't seem like a heap of stock around if it's a new promo? Stock checker here

It's heavy, and you need to build your muscles before using the tool !!!

    • Use a harness and suspenders?

    • not sure why they didn't go with just 18v, should be longer too

      odd design choices imho

It is appearing on their website.
Appears to be available in most stores near me in WA.

  • Don't use your PowerPass unless you want to lose the 5 year Ozito warranty. Bunnings will claim you have bought it for commercial use and reduce the warranty to [I think…] 1 year.

    • I thought they got called out on this and have started honouring warranties?

      • I've not heard that? I hope so, they shafted me on it ages ago. Happy to be corrected if that's the case!

I have not experienced that. Two Ozito returns were swapped for new no problems. One was four years old.
Maybe because I treat all my stuff properly and it doesn't look like it's had a tradies life.

      • I agree re: "tradies look", but in my case my Ozito kit never went to work. Ozito stuff is literally only used at home.

As a contractor in heavy industry [at that point] if you were to turn up with Ozito you'd not get many shifts. It would be assumed you weren't serious, and you'd be viewed, essentially, as a liability. My work gear was all Milwaukee. All of which, by the way, is well looked after - though I agree this is often not the case.

I saw a bloke once, handed a thousand-ish $ calibrated torque wrench, use it as a hammer - and then complain it was "shit" when it "fell apart". He was using it to slam a bolt through a steel beam at the time. I still shake my head over that.

Anyway, it was simply the "bought on PowerPass, therefore 1 yr warranty" reflex. Others here on OzB had reported the same, over the years.

One important aspect - the chainsaw and hedge trimmer can't be attached directly to the main unit.

They have to use one pole when attaching. That means the chainsaw and hedge trimmer have to be used at the same distance as the line trimmer in the pics. (Or further, with the extra extension)

That means it's not really any good for close up work, if you need much precision. It's fine for encouraging social distancing / zombie invasions.

For many this won't be an issue. But for others (like myself) it would be much more useful if the heads could also attach directly to the main unit without needing the pole. The main unit already has quite a long pole built in, so adding an extra length just makes closer work awkward.

I have this kit, and agree with this 100%. Well stated.

Me too. Shame is can't be used at short distances. It's a great kit but. The line trimmer is as good as my petrol Makita.

I have a Ego 56v brush cutter with the metal blade on it. I used to swap out the blade for the corded head to do around trees and stuff - things that might damaged by the blade, or, alternately, damage the blade. Trees, plants and steel fence posts, mostly.

Now I use this as my corded trimmer instead and leave the blade on the Ego brushcutter. I actually bought this kit for the saw, so it was an unexpected pleasant surprise to discover how well it works. I do prefer the Ego spool system, but this is "good enough".

Got this when it was $279 last time around, and it's been super useful. Yes it's a bit on the heavy side but you have to remember the pole extends to 3.5m or so, it needs to be sturdy! I've gotten so much use out of the chainsaw attachment & extension pole just on it's own to justify the purchase price. If you're doing a lot of whipper-snipping I recommend the standalone line trimmer ($159 tool only), it's super light and really good to use.

    • I have this kit but would really like to know if the standalone line trimmer kit is worth getting.
Compared to the kit is it stronger?
Also the line keeps coming off when I use this which is super annoying.

      • +1

The line they supply is very low end / weak, so unless you replace it with a stronger grade, you will be using it a fair bit. I should point out the primary advantage of the standalone trimmer is how much lighter & more comfy it is to use.

        • Thanks for the response. Is it also stronger or same power?

          • +1

@pOint01: It's 36V [2x 18V batteries], so I can only assume the same power. If you're going up against tough or long grass, you may need to re-spool it with stronger line, as the 2mm stuff they supply (and which is sold as a replacement spool) is pissweak.

@The Judge: Thanks again. I’m going up against buffalo grass runners? which is like trying to cut through rope!

              • +1

@pOint01: I have the same issue, I inherited a large buffalo lawn but I like to keep it short, which is apparently what causes the bloody things. I really need to rip it all up and start again…

                • @The Judge: Every time I do the lawn I’m thinking “I did not sign up for this”.

  • wish they had an 18v longer version

with 2x batteries this one seems like it'll be unnecessarily heavy for longer sessions
