Is it actually any good though?

    • +3

Better than the dockmule at least.

        :'(

        • Did you get scammed @Morien ?

          • @BewareOfThe Dog: Haha. Yeah. Charge back with the cc. Still… would have liked that dock.

    • +3

I’ve had one for ~4 months now, really happy with it for the price compared to other Thunderbolt docks.

(Using it with an M1 Pro MBP)

url looks a bit odd. why having arcus prefix?

I guess "the lot" excludes hdmi? Pretty average to only have one DP imo. If you want to use dual monitors will need a usb c monitor or use another usb c to hdmi adapter…

    • for something like a macbook air which only supports one external monitor seems fine

      • Not sure about macbook air but Macbook pro can support dual monitors with thunderbolt dock having 2 HDMI/DP Port ( didn't try yet, read on multiple articles)

Here are the external display specs for Apple’s current laptops:

M1 MacBook Air: Maximum one external display

M2 MacBook Air: Maximum one external display

M2 MacBook Pro: Maximum one external display

M2 Pro MacBook Pro: Maximum two external displays

M2 Max MacBook Pro: Maximum four external displays

      • +2

you can also increase external displays with DisplayLink (needs compatible dock and if you're okay with it). i'm using M1 MBP with 3x external displays

  • $269.99 price history so up to 30% off?

  • Anyone have any issues with Intel Iris Xe graphics? Every single dock I've tried doesn't let me do dual screen output. The same docks works fine on all other laptops I have with Intel HD Graphics. I've given up on buying anymore docks.

You need to get an external GPU, have a look at the Blackmagic. It really is magic

I paid $150 for this wavlink dock almost a year ago to use with an external 27" qhd dell monitor to use as dual setup with laptop and had issues initially but contacted support and got help to update firmware and no issues since.

Only about a month ago added another 27" qhd dell monitor and have had no issues (using 2x 2560x1440) 75 hz outputs on top of using the inbuile ~2k 60hz laptop screen alongside.

Would recommend. Given it has 2x HDMI and 1x DP (but no usb-c out) I would argue it's better value for money than OP's post depending on your needs —- but wavlink have the same product also with slight variations in ports… Take a look

Looks like they also have 25% coupon going on Amazon atm

Edit: note I'm using a MSI summit flip e14 with an i5 1240p and iris xe graphics

      • It's not thunderbolt though…

Thunderbolt docks generally come with a premium because of the bandwidth you get.

        • +1

This is good enough for me. Worth a shot. Thanks @Jayblesz

        • It's not thunderbolt but this is for a different use case really.

You do pay a premium for certified thunderbolt docks because that means they can definitely handle at least the thunderbolt's certified Gbps bandwidth using a single thunderbolt [usb-c] cable. You also pay a cost premium because of this.

2x 1440p monitors at a lower end hz (60-75) is about 8.5gbps through HDMI 1.4, so if this is all you wanted to do, with other limited peripheral use (e.g. a wired mouse, keyboard, speakers and single USB-A type 3, the dock I linked should be heaps. If you're looking for all this PLUS a high speed USB-c data transfer rate, you'll likely need a certified TB3 or more likely TB4 dock.
Same goes if you need multiple screens at higher refresh rates… But again, it's use case.

By original commenters use case, what I linked seems to be acceptable.

          • @Jayblesz: Agree it’s for different requirements. However disagree with it being better value because they’re targeting different needs.

    • i have a dell d6000 dock used about $100 inc power supply off ebay, was like new, ….does 2x dp and a hdmi …if you get one as always with devices upgrade to latest firmware ….

      • It’s a usb-c dock. Depends on what you need, but for example, if you have a high end gfx card then you’ll want a Thunderbolt docking station to make the most of it.

Can anyone recommend something with essentially only USB-A (min. 5 or 6?) and USB-C (min. 3 or 4?) data transfer ports? I feel like I'm always short on those connections. Or is this as close as I would get at this price point?

    • and USB-C (min. 3 or 4?) data transfer ports

Unfortunately these are almost impossible to find, nobody seems to make USB C hubs with lots of ports for a reasonable price. I have no idea why, you'd think there would be a demand for it, but I guess not…

      • yes i dont understand it either, thank you for the reply!

  • Not many options for HDMI 2.1 for 4K 144Hz…

    • get a HDMI to USB c able or display ort to HDMI cable

      • Would that work with a thunderbolt dock?

        • Yeap it would!

However it is my understanding that most monitors and TVs don’t support 144hz over hdmi.

      • Preferably those with at least a VMM6100 chip, or VMM7100 if possible which is even better. Theoretically speaking there is HDMI Alt mode but I believe most devices have DP wired behind their USB-C port so need a proper chip to achieve DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1.

Cant even connect 2 monitors to this dock without going usbc. Should have had an HDMI 4k 60/120 atleast along with other ports.

  • A usbc to hdmi / DP adapter guys! $8 on Amazon.

I’ve picked one up, will let you know how it goes

  • can this do 2 Monitors on a MacBook air m1

We need more details about power supply capabilities on the ports. 65W is not really enough — most other similar docks come with 100W+ power supplies. The problem is each USB- port should supply 15W, and it’s nice when USB-A ports provide the full 7.5W (USB BC standard) for phone charging or higher power devices. A USB NVME M.2 enclosure often draws significantly more than 5W for example when used with some 2TB or 4TB drives.

    • Yeah the power delivery isn’t great. Will need to work around the limitations for sure. Like, I would attach external drives that are self powered.

      Still, $180 ftw!

    • Yeah, it is confusing. I don't know how these docks work. The power supply is 65W and the passthrough is 60W. So, does that mean if devices are connected, they would be getting the power back out from the laptop? That feels kinda odd.

Like you mentioned, most of these docks come with a 100W+ power supply. That makes more sense. The dock itself needs power, the ports need power too. If this one only come with 65W power supply, I would be cynical about the 60W passthrough even if there is no port on the dock being used.

      • The dock has arrived.

It charges and I am getting 4K output with basic peripherals attached.

I don’t think im going to get much more out of it unless I attach self powered devices.

I was able to attach an external drive and it had enough power to operate.

  • shit I just bought other one more expensive

  • I just click the link but it is showing 359.99.

True, 65W is just too little nowadays.

    • Ah the 50% off voucher is gone!
