Pairs nice with ginger ale, but don't be cheap, use Schweppes only.

pfft, only the finest Regal brand ginger ale from Aldi for me

bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla

I see that you've already opened your bottle

Can I buy two 12 yo Chivas and mix/blend to make it a 24yo Chivas? It's cheaper doing so

    boratmath

  • This will go great with Costco cola!

  • +1

Seriously though if you can buy one $500 whiskey, which one would you get?

    • +7

Probably something in the Glenmorangie brand is where I'd be looking. Definitely not a blend in the Chivas range.

      yamazaki 12…

      • +6

imo it's not worth over $150.

        • Second this. Starts becoming diminishing returns once you've got age statement, no chill filter, no colour added, higher abv %

        • +2

Was barely worth $80-90 when it just sat on shelves and no one cared

      • -1

Hibiki 12 imo. Got I love that drop

        • $1000+ though?

          • +1

            @dirtyhen: To me it's a $60 whisky. Don't believe the hype

        • Possibly the boringest Japanese blend, or any blend

    • +1

In today's market, nothing is worth $500. I'd buy 2 or 3 bottles of distilleries I like

      • Sullivan's Cove would like to have a word..

        • Sullivans Cove was a shelf turd at every bottle shop at ~$120 until it won the award. Idiots then cleared the shelves not realising that all Sullys are single cask, so the chance of getting the same cask was basically zero. I like Sullivans Cove, and have met Patrick Maguire at the distillery, but a a Sullys French Oak is a $120 whisky. I have Heartwoods that are Sullivans juice that blow away the French Oak. Just get Overeem Port CS for $250, which is available, and better.

A Sullivans Cove bottle is now a collectors item, that will never be opened, and flipped for eternity. I have 2 Heartwoods open that are Sullivans Cove casks with age statements and bottled at cask strength. How many people buy Sullys to drink? 1% if I'm being generous.

    • It’s over $500 but I would like a Macallan Enigma.

      • Had the Macallan Enigma a while ago from duty free. Definitely not worth the money

    • I'd buy a selection of $100 ones

      For me? Talisker 25.

Really there should never be a single answer to this, because at this price point you're not getting necessarily a "better" whisky, you should be aiming at something for the experience or to get something very unique. Gift for the average scotch drinker or as a bottle at an over the top party? Chivas 25 is great, it's amazingly smooth yet detailed in flavours, it'll knock the socks off most people. It's great while being very accessible.

Buying for a group of dedicated scotch drinkers? Maybe look at a Gordon & Macphail bottling or something rare. That's the appeal at this price point.

Give me $500 and I'll just go buy 5 bottles of Amrut Fusion and be a lot happier though.

      • I've never heard of Amrut Fusion but after five minutes of research am intrigued enough to give it a try. Cheers.

      • Talisker 25 is excellent, depending on the bottling date. I think the current ones are 45.8%, same as the 10. It used to be cask strength and much better. Not worth $500. But you have good taste picking Amrut Fusion. Not 5 bottles though; get a Portonova, Intermediate Sherry and a Kadhambam. Depending on prices, you might even be able to squeeze in a bottle of Fusion.

      • Glenfarclas is 330 at DM.

  • I don't mind a 25yr old… whisky

    Too old for DiCaprio

  • Buy and hold for another 25 years

  • if you are heading towards 1K for a bottle for me could only justify it if its rare / no longer produced with few bottles for sale worldwide..

  • +1

Much cheaper other places - https://thedrinksociety.com.au/products/chivas-regal-25-year…

if you have a spare $40K get this, https://senseoftaste.com.au/products/glendronach-aged-50-yea… but shop around for some extra savings

  • Holy.. Does the price doubled over the years

    • In the past 2 years most whiskys have increased in price anywhere from 20% to 100%, it's beyond a joke.

      • +1

it insane. look for single malts that aren't overhyped and have a reasonable price. for example i refuse to pay 200+ for lagavulin 16, i don't care if i like it, it's not worth it
