  • I've been holding out for a bargain deal on a whole camera setup for ages now. In the meantime, I've had no cameras. I'm thinking something like this would be a good interim solution just for the front door. Does anyone have any experience with the Kogan SmarterHome app? I really don't have high hopes for it.

    • for $45 hard to find anything remotely in similar bracket

      • Yeah but if the overall experience is a nightmare I'd rather save the $45.

        • $45 plus a sparky to put it in. Then another sparky to pull it out if it fails.

Kogan SmarterHome stuff is versatile and pretty good quality for entry-level smart home. They use the Tuya Cloud, and the SmarterHome app is a white-label of the Tuya app (also available as "Smart Life"). You can use any Tuya-compatible stuff with the same app and account - popular brands in Australia that use it are Grid Connect and Mirabella Genio.

      • If you can use tuya with it then I say it’s worth a go.

      • I just returned two Kogan light strips which were garbage quality. Both had broken connections in the strip, and despite being advertised as waterproof, the silicone casing was open at the ends. The double sided tape didn't last a day.

    • Me too. I bought this TP-Link from amazon as a temporary solution due to an upcoming holiday but I might end up keeping this for longer. Mainly for home insurance claim, but hopefully won't have any incident.

    • I bought that $10 Kogan LED plug in floodlight the other day and it is excellent. Very good light output and sensor picks up movement from a good distance. App seems to work well too. Impressed with it.

    • I don't use the Kogan app. I use smart life app instead.

      Tuya app also works.

      • I have a few Mirabella's and kogan downlights and they both work on the Genio app too.

  • Have you seen the 4-pack smart downlight too? I'm tempted to get those too.

have them in my bedroom/media room highly reccomend

  • I've got a house full of Kogan smart stuff and, yeah, it all works well. Using the Smartlife app, I link everything into my Homebridge server running on a Raspberry Pi, which allows me to control these devices with Siri. I've even mixed their Bluetooth variants into the app using the BT gateway. All in all, I'm happy with their pricing and quality on the Smarterhome range (especially compared to what I paid for Hue, TP Link and Brilliant stuff in the past).

  • damn,..bought at $65. do they still do price drop guarantee?

    • Yes, Up to 14 days of purchase date.

    • Is this can be installed from the ceiling? Is the bracket long enough?

  • I have some Tuya/Kogan stuff. Some of it integrates well with HA, some doesn't. Generally Tuya stuff will phone home so it's worth trying to lock it down with localtuya or tuyalocal. If none of that is a concern to you, it's generally pretty decent.

In this particular instance I can't see where this camera has ONVIF/RTSP so not likely to work with Blue Iris (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Also IP54 is not super for this type of product.

  • Do i need an electrician to install this or DIY can be?

  • Ive got a basic 1080 IR Kogan IP cam. Works pretty well.

Scumbags block it no probs with wifi jammers. Not sure if the SDCard recording will still work?

Might use my $10 cashrewards bonus for this.

  • Wyze are the other option at about this price point, can do local 24x7 recording to SD cards so no subscription. They're USB powered, can buy the adaptors that allow USB off light sockets also.

The flood light on the Kogan one bored any USB one out of The water

  • Installed this today. Pretty impressive.

Electrician was impressed that it came with all the hardware and connectors. Even a power plug if you didn't want to hard wire it.

    10/10 for ease of installation.

Picture quality is great. Keep in mind this is 2k resolution and you can really tell the difference compared to the collection of other 1080p cameras I have

    Works with smart life app

    • So you can just plug it in to powerpoint and avoid having an electrician install it?

      • Yep

    • 2 questions:

Is the temperature of the light adjustable? i.e. Is Warm white an option?

Its white in colour I assume. Are the spotlights square in shape or round like the shown in the video?

      • Light temperature isn't adjustable. It's a neutral white. My guess around 6000k like daylight.

        Lights are square not round
