LEGO Hogwarts Express Collectors' Edition 76405 $700 (C&C Only) @ EB Games eBay

80

RRP is $799.99. Suspect this is a price error as EB Games usually prices Lego above RRP. Same price on direct website but $15.95 postage.

EDIT: Also $668 Delivered @ Toys R Us

    • Really limited ?
Seeming this one escaped exclusivity . Wouldn't you be better off choosing a set that didn't escape hehe .

Seen the in the fives i think

  • Probably just trying to clear their units on the back of Hogwarts Legacy

    Lol $700

  • I am not sure which retail stores are selling this, but 20% off LEGO is pretty common at most of them.
So $640 should be a achievable price (and still not a bargain)

Quick google shows me that it's $668 at TRU/hobby warehouse (appears to be the same place)

Personally I would wait for this to be on clearance.
It probably wont be a collectors set for a few reasons.

It's too big and expensive for the kids
It uses a different gauge for the rails, so all the LEGO train nerds are out.
It's hard to display as a general set

It's purely aimed at the adult HP fans that were also into LEGO. Unsure how many kids who grew up doing both, have gotten back into both again now.
LEGO tends to be a 30-35yo+ thing. I don't think the memberberries are strong enough to lure back both fans.

Star Wars on the other hand had a two decade head start, so those with disposable incomes and being star wars fans and kids to justify getting back into LEGO are everywhere.

what you said above is not wrong, i totally agree with it, but instead i think this will be a collector set in the future. This is the harry potter version of millennium falcon, the most iconic item in the franchise. Harry potter fans are still young right now, but after 5 to 10 years time, they would all be grown up by then, and this is the set that they wanted the most back when they were young but can't afford to buy. I would expect this set would go over $1000 once its discontinued. However the fanbase is definitely smaller comparing to Star war. so we can't directly compare milennium falcon to this train but it can be a guide.

      • Yeah I don't think you will loose money on it if you kept it in the box and protected.
I feel any gains will be minimal though, and LEGO has a tendency to re-rerelease old iconic sets every 10 years now, so I wouldn't be buying one to make money on.

Opened as a adult collector and selling it in the future will depend on how much they end up selling it for on clearance.

Having said that, the MF was on clearance as well originally. And also a pricing error on Amazon for $100 or there abouts. People are sitting on cupboards full of those things and slowly selling them on bricklink.

    • this is with damaged box, if you are a collector or investor, think twice before buying. but if you are planning to open it anyway then this is best price so far

  • Wasn't this $599 at Toys R Us?

who else is here because they have "price error" alerts and then see this thing at $700….

  • I got this set for $580 at eBay just last week. It was 20% off +eBay plus discounts.

  • It looks nice. But not nice enough, even if $600.

  • Damn, what a bargain
