F-Secure is a very good Antivirus solution, and I would recommend it for people who want something simple, set and and forget, and still a bit better than Microsoft's built in Defender Windows Security option.
You will need to use a VPN set to a German endpoint for this to work.
I don't know how anyone uses that.
I've had it installed a couple of times and it takes up almost half of my laptop performance that I've had to uninstall it after a few uses.
I keep hearing how good it is hence why I keep trying to use it but not sure why it keeps impacting my performance.
probably software conflict. I had a similar experience few years back. Been using recently no issues though
Quite opposite for me. My PC feels less tormented by it, compared to the default antivirus in Windows.
Uses Bitdefender's Engine, which is pretty much tied for best from AVComparatives with Kaspersky.
F-Secure uses the Avira engine now. They switched several years ago. Norton bought Avira last year by the way.
How do you know it is a bit better than Defender?
Nothing wrong with Defender. F-Secure does have DeepGuard though which is a behavioural blocker, and will potentially catch malware on execution, and if missed will also potentially block C2 (command and control) phone home activity (even though it uses Windows Firewall)
I have ExpressVPN, but I can't seem to get it working, any ideas?
I use a location in Germany and click on the download button, but somehow it gives me error message saying my connection/location does not fit for the criteria.
There is no download button on the link supplied. You just need to sign up for an F-Secure account with a working email address and your account should be active with 6 months free. Once your account is setup you should be able to download the windows client directly from your account portal (You don't need a VPN for this step). You may need to use google translate for the German parts though.
There is a get free button that is what I meant by download button, but says I need to create an account.
Anyway I managed to setup an account by clicking Ich habe F‑Secure TOTAL on the page and then sign-up, but now my issue is I can't translate the account page to English somehow Google Translate does not work, any ideas?
Also at what stage we will need the VPN?
