Decent price for this router, I paid $196.61 during black friday sales the only caveat is this one ships from the UK so it may take an extra week to get to you.
Pros: - Solid performance overall - Probably better than the 4 year old router you currently have - Smells good - haven't tried tasting it yet…

Note: UK stock.

Don’t buy uk routers as txpower is half the strength

    • It's a big difference.

"For 5 GHz Wi-Fi, the US FCC sets higher power limits than the EU. For example, in the U-NII-1 band, the FCC limit is 30 dBm (1000mW) while the EU limit is 23 dBm (200mW)".

      • I’d go with the ax56u currently lowest it’s been on Amazon, Aussie stock and Merlin

  • who would've thought a AX5400 router with 4800mbps on 5Ghz have only got Gigabit Lan/Wan ports.

Throughout isn't actually 4.8Gbps on 5Ghz band. That's just marketing. It's 4 channels of 1.2Gbps… and even then, it's limited by your internet speed (which in Australia mostly tops out at 1Gbps for whoever can get it)

What if you are just transferring file on home lan? Can wifi actually beat gigabit lan on a sustained basis e.g. copying a 40GB mkv file?

        • +2

          Nope

@mandelbrot: hard to beat ethernet full duplex with little overhead vs wireless 1/2 duplex with the wireless overhead ….

        • Rocking on AX3000 with Intel AX200 and Huawei AX3 Pro as AP, 160Mhz is enabled.

Uploading speed is about 75-80 on average, peek at 95 from time to time.

The best client WiFi 6 chip is at 2x2, so realistically your theoritical max should be about 2400Mbps.

I don't know if it's my old ethernet cable capped out or router or old Lan Chip(z87 with Realtek lan) on NAS some other factor.

Considering buying TP-Link XDR6088 to find out later.

@OMGJL: I have a AX3000 router with 160Mhz enabled. On a 1Gbps FTTP connection, I get wireless download speed of about 950Mbps. Using the Wifiman app on 2 mobile phones connected to the same AP, you can test the speed between the two devices connected to the same AP. I get about 700Mbps download and upload.

There is an actual statement on the app speedtest that says "Wifi inter-device speed (when connected to the same AP) will be generally 50% slower than direct device to internet speed"

  • As always, another new poster with UK Routers…

    Borderline dodgy at this rate.

  • I have one of these from Amazon UK and am very happy with it .
Replaced my old telco modem router which was resetting itself when heavy torrenting .
This obviously doesn't have a modem but I recently got FTTP NBN , So I no longer needed a modem anyway and the router section of the AX72 has been faultless for 6 months .
2 bedroom bungalow so the wireless works great .

the tp-link router is what i had, and couldn’t get coverage to the TV at the back of my house …..bought the asus RT ax56 in the last amazon deal, not as many antennas or quoted speed but now have coverage to the TV and watch netflix and prime just fine … if you don’t get coverage where you need it , it doesn’t matter what speed it is ….
