Lenovo Tablet M10 3rd Generation $149 @ ALDI

710

It was already a pretty good deal when it was on special for $199; now it's insanely good on clearance for $149 (it's not being advertised, mind you). If you got it for $199 — I did — it may be worth return repoing it — I did (or hand over your OzBargain card at the reception please). Only other better strategy is dumpster diving their bins for it (in a couple of weeks?).

Edit: For comparison, on Amazon, the 2nd Gen 2+32GB is $229, the 2nd Gen 4+64GB is $297, and 3rd Gen Plus 4+128GB is $327. Somehow they don't sell the non-Plus 3rd Gen at the Aussie store; I could only find it in the UK one 4+64GB, for $335.

Silly question but what is "return repoing"?

    • +4

return it at $199, then re-purchase it at $149

      • Ahhh yep makes sense.

      • +21

I did this somewhere else once, spent half an hour arguing that I am entitled to return an unopened resalable item, and as soon as I got the refund I repurchased the same one for a 200 dollar discount, the guy said "you could of just told us you were doing that".

        • +2

          LoL

    • +10

At a guess, I assume they mean buying the one at $149 and not opening it, then returning it with the $199 receipt.

      • +2

        Wow ! Instant $50 cashback.

        • +2

          I know!!

Do that 10 times and it's $500 in the pocket. 😀

      • The trouble with that is you end up with the wrong receipt for warranty (notice the numbering under warranty). But, maybe no one will notice?

  • Which store, Kawana Qld. Aren't you in Sydney?
How far will an ozbargainer go to save $50?
Can you get one for me?

    • 😄

    • +13

Just leaving Melbourne to get one.
      Ozbargain flag on my aerial

      • +1

Great idea about the OzB flag, but a shame most new cars have antennas built into the glass now.

        • +2

I hereby declare Ozbargainstan as a free and sovereign nation.

  • Where is the stock of these anywhere?

    • +4
      • +3

I tried using that and it wasn't very accurate. The store I tried had to call around and had a different store hold one for me. Sadly it was at $199

  • +3

Is these for all Aldis? If it is, that's a bargain for $149

    • I suppose so, this is for all oldies to be auctioned on next Bargain Hunter.

  • +23

Just remember you're getting a cheap tablet at a slightly cheaper price.

    • +3

This is true had the m8 at work and it barely could run a wallpaper let alone do anything else intensive for it like run an app

      • +3

I used to have 2 A7 - the most horrible tables I have ever used - even the color is not right. All dead after around 2 years.

    • It all depends on the usage. I'm using it for a home assistant interface for the family, they love it, and runs really well!

However I have no idea how it will perform under heavy load

  • +4

I returned mine, was expecting too much for $200.. bought the surface pro 7+ deal instead

  • +3

    $199 in Sydney. I bought a Alldocube iplay50 6gb and it’s the bomb at $130 (special launch)

    • Have you got a link to it mate? TIA

    • Can you get HD Netflix with the Alldocube? I've seen people saying there's some trouble with that.

  • +1

A bit laggy, but fine for light web browsing I guess. Perhaps reading?

Videos freeze so I doubt it can do much else, but then again it’s only $200.

  • -4

A 2-3 year old used iPad would perform much better than a brand new Android tab (including most of the high-specced ones).

    • Hate the cost of iPhones for what you get, and lots of Apple products…
I have an iPad 6th generation I bought new on an Optus deal years ago (2019?) and it still works awesome. Battery life, etc fantastic just stuck at 4g and old wifi, slow lightning cable vs usb c….

I’m shocked I haven’t needed to upgrade it or replace any parts.

But they are selling for like $300 used or refurbished after a quick search.
Do you rekon this Lenovo would be an upgrade, including the display ( Color & resolution etc?)

      • -1

I would personally stay away from any cheap Android devices which definitely would start lagging terribly anytime after 6-12 months of usage. If you personally would want to appreciate how good Apple and iOS is, I’d suggest you to give Android a try 😁

        • Depends. Bare minimum would be the Lenovo M10 Plus 3rd gen for web browsing and watching videos, reading emails.

        • You are right mate, all of my android devices have gone to shit and I’ve sold them so they are someone else’s problem. I can’t even be arsed paying Vodafone $25 to unlock my old Huawei android phone as it’s completely impossible to use for absolutely no reason - barely responsive despite a factory reset.

    • trouble is getting a good used 2-3 year old ipad for under $200 , but yep higher res, get ios updates for the next 4 years … but if you are into android this is better than your phone when at home in bed reading or watching movies …

      • @garagesale:

get ios updates for the next 4 years

        @PlaunsJanus:

I have an iPad 6th generation I bought new … and it still works awesome.

That's the frustrating part with Apple products: the hardware outlasts the software. We have an iPad Air 2 from some 10 years ago, that the kiddo has subjected to all sorts of abuse, inside a bumper case of course. The hardware has indeed held up fantastically, but Apple won't let me update the iOS (now stuck in 12), and many apps games refuse to install into anything lesser than iOS 14.

        • +1

Yeah and even jailbreak doesn’t help

          • +1

@DemocracyManifest: Yeah, and at the emd, it backfires on them: did I buy another iPad to replace it? Nah. What's the point of paying top dollar for top hardware if it's obsolescence is preprogrammed on the software??

  • +1

any reason getting this lenovo over this xiaomi pad 5? similar price range around $170-ish after GST, 11 inches, has a better processor SD 865?

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005115956835.html?spm=a2…

    • Android 10?

      • yea android 11 vs 10, but most Play Store apps should be compatible with both, no?

    • +2

      Just so u know it's a "pad 5". Not Xiaomi pad 5….

      • There's also the Xioami Pad 5 Pro

      • ah you're right, i was looking at a few items and got it mixed up!

  • Very usable albeit a little slow tablet, got it free during that once in a lifetime Lenovo "giveaway"

    • +3

I don't find it slow for my use (or perhaps I'm just slower still 😅).

      • +1

I don't get the "slow" bit either. I used it a bit and it seemed OK. Upgraded from a Nexus 7 which was dying with a dodgy screen and fat battery. That was fine for what we need too though…

        • Probably not fast enough for action games, which I'm no intending to use it for.

    • +1

That one was 2nd gen I believe

      • I think I might have paid $50 extra to upgrade to 3rd gen - apologies

  • +2

Got one in Armadale 6112, cheers OP

  • It's 149 in NSW as well. Btw I think it is 2nd Gen and not 3rd Gen

  • +1

Just grabbed one…. 3rd gen. NSW

  • Only interested in getting a tablet for art purposes. Anyone know if this one would be appropriate at all?

    • +2

Don't think so. You need one with a good stylus and a pressure sensitive screen. I hear Wacom, Xencelabs, Huion, XP Pen and, of course, Apple and Microsoft make the best ones. For an Android one, Samsung S8 Ultra is not a bad choice.

      • +1

        Having said that…

If you're looking for the best budget drawing Android tablet in 2023, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A is a great option.01 It is almost half the price of the Samsung Tab s6 but still has almost every feature that you need for writing and drawing.1 Alternatively, if you're on a tighter budget, you can also get cheaper options such as Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite or Simbans PicassoTab 10 which both offer great pen-to-screen experiences and perform well with drawing software such as AutoDesk Sketchbook and Mediabang Paint.0 (Brave Summarizer)

    • Won't be much different to doing art on your phone except a larger screen. No pen pressure for the most part except maybe if you buy specialised stylus and have an app that supports it.

Wisdomtooth mentioned Wacom, Xencelabs, Huion, Xp-pen which are very good, but are mostly Pen Displays that need to be plugged into a computer + power source

Wacom One is a pen display that can be plugged into some android devices/chrome books, but limited devices and apps compatibility - this might be able to run off power with just USB-C data+power cable, but brightness is limited https://www.wacom.com/en-au/comp

Apple iPad + pencil is nice, but only the new iPad Pro supports a hover cursor.

I don't have experience with Android tablets that come with a pen pressure style (Samsung Tab + S-pen), iirc they do have hover cusor?

  • Anyone know how to track a local store phone number for Aldi Warwick WA? Cheers

  • can I get it for $149 if its showing $199 online with the stock checker? are they all discounted at the same time

  • +1

it shows $199 for Belmont WA :( they have stock though

    • Mine showed that on the stock check, but scanned at the right price.

  • I find these 10 inch tabs a bit heavy, 8 inch are less strain on the arm.

    • +3

      Do you even lift!

    • -3

8 inch are less strain on the arm

      Girlfriend is that you?

  • +1

Received one of these for free when Lenovo had that voucher for $1 per point. Not even worth while for free slow as heck and full of bloat.

Kids can hardly use the thing.

  • +3

Once I removed all the extra bloatware and updated it. This thing is very usable. I was sceptical after reading all the comments on slowness. I loaded titan quest and getting 60 fps on medium settings. Very playable. L1 HD Netflix, no lag or stuttering. Using it to stream Xbox sx using Bluetooth controller. Very happy with it.

    • Yeah, dunno what's the fuss about bloatware; just uninstall it, right? (except all Google bloatware but that's in all Androids 🙄)

    • what did you remove and how?

      • Comes with a bunch of games, standard uninstall works.

  • +2

Got it for 149$ at the counter at Aldi Ingle Farm. Confirm it is 3rd generation. Need to ask the "senior" at the counter to get it or show them the photo and ask them to scan the top 2 barcodes on the product to get 149$. Box come with tablet, screen protector and tablet protector. Best value for money especially with warranty.

  • +1

Just grabbed one from Aldi in North Strathfield, Thanks!

  • None left in Kawana or I just couldn't find it. Do you recall where it was?

    • +2

In a box under the counter at the cashier. I've just done it again in Nambour — the repo return — and that's where it was too. This time I first purchased a new one for $149, then returned the one I had bought for $199 with its receipt (I had bought two, one for me, one for mom); I thought this way it was less likely to create dramas. Indeed it didn't. The cashier was nicer and friendlier too. Even told me to take a picture of the receipt with the phone for warranty, in case I lose it.

      • +1

        What's a mom?

    • Got it?

  • Is this the Plus version?

  • +2

Just got one from Baldivis WA store for $149, but had to ask cos they're under the desk at the first counter.

    Specs on the box say:
    CPU: UNISOC T610
Display: 10.1 Inch 1920*1200 TDDI LCD
    WLAN: 802.11 A/B/G/N/AC+BT5.0
    OS: ANDROID 11
    Battery: 5100mAh/19.7Wh(TYP) 500mAh/19.3Wh(Min)

Comes with a case and screen protector

Thanks op. Got one from Aldi Camberwell.

    • Camberwell VIC or Camberwell NSW?

      • VIC :D

    • Can you check if they have more in Aldi Camberwell please. im from Northern Suburbs couldn't find stock
      Thanks

      • Give them a call? I don't live around either sozy

        • +1

          All good found one

  • Greetings all, Is anyone aware or have been able to get a usb-c to HDMI adapter to work as output to an external monitor? Cheers

  • +1

Can confirm its discounted from top, should be red ticket, hence price should be nationwide I assume (aka its not discounted by individual stores).

    • What happened? It flopped? What happens with the leftover inventory? Further discounts? Employee prize? Donation? To the bins?

      • +5

So every Tuesday and Friday stores need to put out newer special out, If they don't have enough space on floor, they reduce items to make space. (reduced items go on a special clearance table- Clearance ≠ reduce always, being on clearance table means item is put there to be cleared, (not necessarily reduced, although most probably it is). General rule is max 4 items per table, any more can be troublesome for store. So that's main reason why items are moved to clearance section (which don't have such requirement).

Red ticket label on the shelf label means item has been reduced already from the top, and Stores are technically not allowed to reduce that item further. (how they discount is IDK, but one factor is time since advertised date)

Stores are also only meant to discount items after at least 1 month of the item being advertised on floor.

With special buys store are generally flexible to choose where they put the special items, so some stores may have these tablet at checkouts, some may have it on clearance section, some may have somewhere else.

If special items really aren't selling for a long long time, some stores may either reduce that item further upto 45% max usually (lesser on high value items), otherwise it goes to bin.

Employee price- In one's dream I think.
Donation- if item is food, sure can be put on charity collection. Otherwise not really.

        • Thanks for taking the time. Cheers.

  • GREETINGS ALL
If anyone missed out, I purchased one of these guys for my Mum late Friday evening and she also got one south of Perth at a similar time. Double up and not required. Happy to sell at cost (149).
PM me or see Gumtree advert @ https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/duncraig/android-tablets/new…

i just picked one up at Kardinya WA today, it's still $149. it isn't on the special buy section anymore, i had to ask one of the workers to check the internal store list; he went to the back of the store and came back out asking me if this was what i wanted, and said it's the only one left on top of some desk :)
worth checking out other stores for stock if still looking.

  • This ir a samsung tab 7 lite. Its just for my mom for facebook and tiktok lol

  • +1

FYI, these are still available at Cheltenham (VIC) ALDI for $149 as I just purchased 3 of them. Manager advised that they have another box of units there. Hope that helps anyone who is still looking.

  • +1

I just picked one up at my local store, Westleigh NSW.

Was further reduced down to $139.

Seems like there may still be a few around as it wasn't on the shelves but under the cashiers desk #1.

    • Kawana still has some under the cashiers desk too (I saw at least 3). They were never on the shelves there; they were always under the counter (which perhaps partly explains why they failed to move the inventory).

Was further reduced down to $139.

I'll update the post. Might do another repo-return to get the difference back again.
