Wooden Balance Board $19.00 (Was $25) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ OnePass/ $65 Order) @ Kmart

130

This was recommended to us for kids to develop balance (which the kiddo is lacking). It still seems expensive to me for a piece of curved plywood, but I couldn't find anything cheaper. Even on AliEx there's nothing below $20-25, not to mention the boutique kid stores which sell it for $100! Kmart says it's discounted, so here it is.

If you think that's expensive, you should see the one my wife bought :-p

I mean, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference because it looks identical, except it was at least $80.

It was never used. Supposedly it's great, although I don't really get it. It's also awkward to store as it won't fit anywhere, so you basically always have to have it out. I'm not a huge fan as you can tell, but at this price, it's worth a try I suppose.

The kmart one has 70kg weight limit

        How big is your kid??

        • -1

I've found the more expensive ones have a greater weight rating and adults use these too for various health reasons.

No one in my house weighs over 70kg

People underestimate their kids and that's why there is a market for these kinds of products.

My son has proprioception issues; that's why it was recommended to us.

My daughter loved this [exact one], stopped playing with it now but would spend a lot of time on it, right from when she started walking to around 2yo

They're also called wobble boards. A metal bowl attached to a 30x30cm piece of wood will do the trick. They're great for ankle sprain rehab. This one looks like a lateral (left-right) balance board, a plank of wood on a piece of down tube will do the same thing.

No, it won't; completely different mechanics. In fact, the exact opposite: one brings to balance, on the other one needs to fight imbalance.

Buy 2, join (one upside down, one right side up), cover in rope, to construct a fabulous cat stand/ scratcher

Just go to the park and use the balance beams there . You can also catch some fresh air and sun light .

Heck even a brick wall will suffice

We never had to waste money on this crap as kids

I have this and also the wobble board, and the difference in quality is substantial. Having said that, both would still work as intended, and then some as the kids discover new ways to play with them. At this price point, it’s good to just get 1 and have a try especially if it’s something you’ve been looking into. Then you can decide whether you want to invest in an upgrade or if it’s just a waste of space in your house.
