Hard to believe a plane like this ever existed

    • It would still exist if the price of oil didn't go up so much. The crash by itself wasn't enough to stop it imo. I bet wealthy people would start taking submarine rides down to Titanic if someone offered them again for the same price.

      • Wasn’t the crash due to a design fault and therefore but all the other concord aircraft’s at risk and out of service? It’s a wonder that they haven’t redisigned it though.

        • The fuel tanks were shielded, so even if debris was flung into it it wouldn't explode. Kinda like what Teslas had done to them to protect the batteries. But what really killed Concorde is that if gasoline prices go up. In 1970 the first test flight saw oil prices at $1.67 per barrel. By first commercial flight in 1976 it was $11.51 per barrel. At the final flight in 2003 it was $30 a barrel. $66 today, but it was over $100.

As an aviation geek, one of the highlights of my life was flying on Concorde. An incredible experience.

      • Did it feel much different to typical jets of the day?

The cabin is very narrow and the ceiling felt that it was lower, almost cramped. The seat was comfortable but probably not as comfortable as the business class seats of today. The food was okay but this was British Airways and they are not renowned for the quality of their cuisine. There was plenty of booze on offer and as I was a lot younger then and into that, it was a bonus! I don't remember it being particularly more noisy in the cabin than, say, a B747.

            Checks out.

One of the coolest things I ever saw was as a kid being at JFK airport and seeing one of these things take off from one. Holy crap. The SOUND!!! It shook the glass of the airport cafe lookout we were in. Freaking awesome.

I grew up in South Africa, and back in the 70s when I was very young, a Concorde came there for testing. I remember it flying over our house - and the noise. We went to the airport to see it and it was awesome and probably was one of the sparks that ignited my love of aircraft. I lived in the UK for 10 years, and one morning, early 2000's, I was walking to the train station in Croydon, South London. It was a typical UK day with low 100% overcast. I could hear a loud aircraft approaching, on finals into Heathrow. A Concorde broke through the crud right above me - a big White Delta shape, an incredible sight.

No other civilian aircraft has had quite the same impact.

Flight of the Conchords. Hard to believe a show like this ever existed.

Should I concede on the concord

    • +3

We are in concord with you conceding to the Concorde.

      • +1

        conceding to Concorde.

        Fixed that for you :)

In the top 5 of all time favourite planes.
Back when style was a factor.

I wonder if Lego will ever do a Handley Page Victor 🤔

    • +3

      What are the other four?

      • I'm going to take a stab at the SR-71 Blackbird being one of them.

Probably the A-10 Warthog as well.

        • +1

Was going to throw in the F14 & F15 as well, until I saw the username, doesn't check out.

Would go with the MiG 25 and/or 31.

        • Man I second the a-10 I was at a dinner fifteen years ago with a Canadian bloke who worked with a10s, I literally did nothing but ask for stories about them for about 4 hours. Possibly I came across as more than a little autistic in this interaction.

    • I wonder if Lego will ever do a Handley Page Victor

Now that would be a thing! An Avro Vulcan too.

  • +2

This is mint. Has Lego done an SR 71 Blackbird yet?

LEGO's internal policy is against realistic modern weaponry and situations that glorify violence or conflict in world conflicts.

      • -1

thats a shame, there could be some pretty wicked sets they could do like the f35 raptor, blackhawk, submarine, b52 bombers.

        • +5

But then they'd be breaking their internal policy against realistic modern weaponry and situations that glorify violence or conflict in world conflicts.

          • @bambadee: yes i know but i'm just saying it would be pretty cool building those planes etc

Have a look at Cobi bricks. There is a very deep rabbit hole on some of the kit they’ve got. If I had deeper pockets and a bigger house I’d be into it more.

        • Makes total sense now that I think about it! Never seen a fighter jet or tanks etc.

      • +1

Star Wars happened a long time ago, so that's OK!

    • +3

      Ummmm yeah no

    • +3

      Don't think that's real LEGO.

    • +2

      It's a bootleg item.
I would go for the original Lego set for the small price difference.

      But each to their own.

  • +1

My nearest lego store has this assembled in their shop window. It looks awesome.

    • +2

I've built one! It is awesome!

  • +1

Got one, Combined it with the voucher that I have on hands making it $200 in total.
    Gonna display this at work.

    Thanks OP.

    • +7

      Sounds tax deductible

      • +1

*Necessarily incurred in carrying on a business for the purpose of gaining or producing your assessable income! :)

        • +3

ATO: On what basis are you claiming this tax deduction?

You: Lego is part of my office furniture, just like this chair I'm sitting on.

          ATO: Sounds reasonable.

          • @deeeno: As long as you have it displayed in your office, I guess it is part of your office furniture.

      • *wink

    • +1

      Gonna display this at work

      Next day, gonski.

    • Do you have to get permission from the local cafe, before displaying it there?

  • +1

This is a fun build! Worth it IMO!

  • +2

Good price and good set! You can buy wall mounts for these to hang on your walls too, lots of different angles and options available (a quick "lego concorde wall mount" search should suffice)

    • I might need to look into this…

  • Can this fly at mach 1

  • got one. thanks!

  • Would love one of these and/or the 747 with the shuttle on it's back but I just don't have the space for it with how wide these are. I have the Space Shuttle Discovery and that's already taking up most of the width of my shelf space…

  • +1

Supposed to stop buying more Lego. Oops!

    • Said no one ever! Always make room for new Lego

      • +2

unless you have a small house and literally have no space to put it unless you want lego everywhere in the house and the wife gets pissy.
I've got so many legos set that i'd love to build but they are just sitting lying in my garage :(
one day i'll build them and then die happy lol

        • +1

          same with me mate,

Although I've been very selective buying sets,
Istill need to hold on building them because I don't want to just stacks the built sets in random places around the unit.
