  • Do you need aqara hub to use this or they stand alone?

    • +1

Neither of them need the Hub. The door lock operates perfectly well without the Hub and can also be remotely operated from outside your Wifi network using HomeKit. The ONLY time you would need the Hub is IF you want to use the Aqara app to operate it remotely (and the cheap $49 E1 Hub does the job just fine)

The Doorbell doesn't need the aqara Hubs. It comes with its own internal chime and that acts as the "Hub"

    Is this product dodgy?

    • Depends what you mean by dodgy…
will it blow up? probably not..
will it phone home with your video feed? who knows…

  • Wow supports homekit apparently

  • +4

I own both of these. The door lock for a few months and the doorbell for a week. The door lock is BRILLIANT. More features than any lock you'll find out there and very very reliable.

The Doorbell is also very very good. Some minor software bugs (technically we are the only country in the world outside of China and Singapore so far to have received it, the rest are coming later this month) so they will probably get ironed out with firmware updates (it actually got one today and it improved the brightness). It works very well with HomeKit which is the main reason I replaced my Eufy Doorbell.

I paid full price at JB so I'm kicking myself for not waiting for one of these deals now

    • Are they both under the weather? I see their water proof rating isn’t great.

      • +1

They're not "officially" waterproof rated and mine are mostly under an eve although they get a little bit of a splash from time to time, but from what I read people used them successfully for months overseas even in direct snow and they survived.

        • Sounds good then. I would try I guess. Did you get your doorbell wired?

          • +1

@Pricebeat: The Doorbell can run on AA batteries but I already had doorbell wires at the location so I used that instead.

There is one more HUGEEEEE benefit in having hard wiring…you can insert an SD card into the Chime and select in the settings to have 24/7 recording! That's right it can record 24/7 on an SD card AND also still operate as normal via HomeKit secure Video!!

            • @djz: It can run off AA battery and do 24/7 recording?

              • +1

@Yulinma: I don't think you can turn on 24/7 if on batteries. That option I think becomes available only on hard wire.

                • @djz: Correct, if you use batteries (like me) no 24/7 recording but not a deal breaker still good enough catching any motion / people.

    • I currently have eufy door bell and smart lock. Do you think worth upgrading for something new?

      • +1

I had the Eufy doorbell for 2 years and while its excellent at motion detection and was very reliable and well built the 2 way talk on it was virtually unusable due to severe lag (even though the base station was directly behind the wall of the doorbell. The Aqara doorbell has near instant 2 way audio so you can actually successfully have a conversation with someone and of course works with HomeKit Secure Video whereas the Eufy doesn't natively and even though I spent weeks trying to do it via Homebridge it didn't work 80% of the time in HomeKit.

I never owned the Eufy door lock so can't comment but the Aqara A100 has LOTS more features than the Eufy. Be aware though as mentioned in post below that the Aqara is a Mortise lock so while it means you have a much much sturdier and secure lock it isn't as easy to install as the Eufy.

        • How to tell if you have mortise lock? Is it a standard in Australia? So if door already has one would it be more compatible with aqara a100 lock? How much did you pay to have it installed?

    • I have the google nest door bell and the door bell lags prob 5-8 seconds when I'm out at work. How fast is this door bell?

I’ve recently installed the A100, loving it.
Works with HomeKit and can even unlock with Apple Watch/iPhone.
Things to consider before you purchase:
    - I spent over 7 hours installing it with a mate, with the help of a mortise jig;
    - Some screws needs to be cut down if you have a 40mm door;
    - Packaging doesn’t include installation instructions;
    - there are a few installation videos on YouTube for reference, watch them before you pull the trigger.
You can often find it on eBay for around $380 with discount codes.

    I have the G4 for 20 days.

Positive feedback is the same as above

    Negative feedback:
    1. Received the G4 offline notification frequently, it then goes back online after 1-2 mins, to solve it is to turn off the notification. I posted this issue on Aqara forum, looks like a common problem.
    2. It does not have the HDR feature, the face recognition will have issues when the people not facing the light sources. (The face will be dark)

Anyway, I don't want to ask more because I only spent ~A$110 on this stuff. Buy directly from China

    • +1

Be aware the Chinese version is different to the Worldwide one. The world wide one includes SD Card (which can record 24/7) and also can work with Google and Alexa whereas the Chinese one doesn't.

The worldwide version got an update today that improved the dark faces issue…not sure if the Chinese one has it yet

      • Thanks for the reminder, I got the update too!!! it is updating now.

I am aware of the SD card issue, I don't need 24/7 anyway, that's fine

    • +1

How did you manage to get it so cheap? Any chance for a link, thanks!

  • Doorbell is back at $239 it seems

    • +1

You need to apply coupon code from email. See linked post for discount.

      • Well that was a derp moment. Cheers!

  • How easy is it to install

  • "Up to 18 month battery life" - any real world numbers?
I have the Eufy wifi door lock and really happy with reliability and stability - works great with Google and app is pretty good - battery life is around 8 months at the moment, so I'm intrigued about the claimed 18 months for the Aqara

  • Can we record the Door bell video to a NAS storage? I’m not too comfortable having the video clips recorded to a MicroSD card which could be removed by anyone.

    • It does say

Up to 512GB Storage and NAS Support

      Also

      supports HomeKit Secure Video

      • Thank you! I missed that part. It’s interesting the reviews didn’t mention it. Probably just available in new firmware versions.

    • The SD card is inserted into the indoor chime unit, so at least its not on the outdoor unit

Nice little product tbh, I'm very impressed with the design

      • Thanks for the clarification. It’s good enough for me then!

  • +2

The Aqara A100 smart lock is cheaper for anyone with JB hifi business ($366.63 inc GST)

  • FYI for those that missed out, I just did a price-match with JB on another ($49) product, and was able to haggle the G4 doorbell to $199 as part of a bundle deal
