Mens Leather Wallet

Just need a leather wallet. My old wallet is just like leather topped instead of thick leather so it's peeling off and looks embarrassing. Saw these wallets on Amazon and they look okay for cheap

https://www.amazon.com.au/Timberland-Mens-Blix-Leather-Passc…
https://www.amazon.com.au/BOSTANTEN-Genuine-Leather-Wallets-…

But I dunno, maybe they aren't so great? Just want a leather wallet that is proper leather, and not just lined with a thin layer of leather that will start flaking off, and will look grown up. I think I want a regular wallet instead of a phone wallet because I like to put a few keys into some card slots instead of using a keyring. I use fob for car and garage door which obviously won't fit in wallet anyway…

    • Half them wallets aren't even made of leather. And the other half aren't bargains.

        Fwiw i had a bostanten belt and it was great for about 4 weeks :) ..then broke.;

        • I just ordered a Timberland belt. I hope it lasts longer than four weeks because I think four weeks is Amazon's return window.

          • @AustriaBargain: I got a timberland belt purchased 10 years ago at a US outlet store. Been using it most days of the week since. No issues at all.
Wallet wise - bellroy definitely. Wait for sale or check rushfaster

I had my money on you being a woman

    • +2

Are you suggesting women can't use men's wallets?

  • How about an Orbitkey for your keys, and no wallet? Live dangerously.

    • +1

I have an Orbitkey. Still need a wallet.

What you're looking for is vegetable tanned full grain leather wallets.

I love https://eternalleathergoods.com/collections/wallets but they lean on the more expensive side (~$200 for a wallet) but made of thick, high quality leather - for the quality of the materials/workmanship they're actually a bargain.

  • Next time, I'll get one of these.

    Sorry Children. ;)

Hmmm, a meme wallet would be cool. I don't know if it'd make me look more grown up though.

      • No but it's proof that you're not to be messed with. ;)

I find wallets last way longer when they are on cards only diet.

    • Yeah I was thinking that is the way to go. Coins can live in my pocket until they get home. Sometimes people give me cash.

Bellroy Slim Sleeve. Pay a bit now but it'll last forever.

    • Ive had one for over 10 years and it still looks almost as good as the day i got it.

FYI "Genuine leather" is the worst. Best avoided if you want something decent.

  • others have said it but yes, avoid "Genuine Leather' as 'genuine' doesn't mean real, it refers to the grain (It's a bad cut)

    • 'Genuine Leather' is typically real, it's just the worst possible grade of real leather you can get and should be avoided at all costs.

      • I wasn't insinuating it wasn't real, just that 'genuine' doesn't refer to the differentiation between synthetic and real leather

        • Yep - I just read it as "it isn't real" - I totally get your meaning now :)

Can also vouch for a Bellroy, can't even remember how long ago I purchased mine (I'd say it's close to 10 years) and it's still going strong.

    Buy right buy once.

  • Frank Glegg or Lotuff both are made in the USA but they are expensive. Otherwise, Sonnenleder made in Germany can be brought from Peter of Kensington also of decent quality.

  • I have the Pilot but you may like the Ambassador https://andar.com/collections/bifolds/products/the-ambassado…
Or the Ranger when you stop putting keys in it

  • I have found rip curl leather wallets have been great. I own three. The first started to show wear after 5 years, it's still used as a travel wallet. The other has been going strong 7 years, and third is when I got it half price to replace the second, but the second doesn't need replacing.
Size is great for Aussie notes, and not UK pounds…

I think I've aged out of brands that end with "Curl" or "bong" tbh.

      • The logo is small on some of them you won't even notice.

      • Unfortunate.

  • whats your budget?

    • As low as possible. I was hoping $25, but I forgot "Genuine Leather" is bad. I guess I'd pay as much as $90-120 for the brand that was recommended a few times above just to get it over with.

Some brands pop into my mind - they all do genuine leather.

Polo - check out ASOS - I think you can get them for like $50-60
        Hilfiger
        Ben Sherman

or you can go Country Road or Oroton? Probably all around the $50-100

I would suggest you pay a little extra for a genuine leather wallet not that Faux leather stuff.

        • Apparently "Genuine Leather" is not good. As ChatGPT puts it:

Some people advise avoiding "Genuine Leather" products because it is often perceived as a lower-quality leather than other types of leather, such as full-grain or top-grain leather.

Contrary to what the term "Genuine Leather" might suggest, it does not necessarily mean that the leather is of high quality. In fact, "Genuine Leather" is often used to describe leather made from the lower layers of a hide, which may be less durable and less attractive than higher-quality leather. These layers of leather are often split and processed to create a material that is thinner and more pliable, but also weaker and less durable.

Additionally, the term "Genuine Leather" is often used as a marketing tool to make a product sound more valuable or luxurious than it actually is. As a result, some people may feel that products labeled as "Genuine Leather" are not transparent about the quality of the leather used.

Overall, if you're looking for high-quality, durable leather products, it's best to look for products made from full-grain or top-grain leather, rather than those labeled as "Genuine Leather".

          • @AustriaBargain: yeah lets not confuse "genuine" leather, in other words not Fake leather which is what i'm getting at, with the labelling of "genuine leather" on a product.

            • @Bargainitis: "Genuine leather" really is a clever marketing term because it's really hard to think of another way to refer to something made of real leather.

              • @AustriaBargain: anyway i've give you some suggestions.

If you are a working professional, stay away from $25 wallets.

      • If you have TK Maxx near you, you might be able to find a wallet that will suit your budget.

  • Don't get the bostanten crap, there's not a drop of leather in that poly-crap plastic tpu stuff

  • Given how many cards live on pay wave not like a wallet is noticed as much these days. Anything not velcro will look like it belongs to an adult. Bellroy note sleeve or any of their others worth a look but around the $80-$90 range. I had a premium note sleeve but was less durable than the regular material one.

  • Go Oroton, but good luck for under $100. Best check out their DFO outlet. They will last for years.

  • Purchased a couple cheap leather wallets in Vietnam, perfect design BUT they turned out to be actually a cardboard material and fell apart quite quickly. Smelt like real leather, quacked like real leather but suckered me in real good..

  • Support a small business. I've had one of these for years and it's still looking brand new

  • Carl Friedrick wallet.

  • A lot of stock on Amazon IMO comes from AliExpress but is 3 or 4 times more expensive. Especially accessories like leather wallets and watch straps etc.

  • Rushfaster sometimes has "sales" on wallets. I use inverted commas as one persons definition of saving is different let alone some of the prices on Rushfaster itself. YMMV

I've personally gone to a card holder now vs wallet and don't think i could ever go back to a traditional wallet. Grabbed it from Brand outlet overseas 8 years ago and still kicking on

I would get the Apple MagSafe card holder if I thought I could limit myself to three cards.

its surprising what you can whittle down to when pushed and/or force yourself. I used to use all sleeves in Oroton wallet [including the 4 spare slots in front of the note section] so often had <12 cards. Now have 5 (2 cc in one slot) and don't miss what I had in there 'incase' before.

I'd happily do away with license also [given have digital] yet that is still too much of a 'what if' to not take with me

edit RF must have been listening - seems like they have some stuff in 'outlet' currently https://rushfaster.com.au/collections/bellroy-outlet-sale

  • Seriously its just a wallet some of the suggestions here are ridiculous the amount of money people are willing spend.

    Vanity much?

    • What do you think is a proper amount to spend on a wallet?

      • Buy what you can afford, but if you want quality and you want it to last expect to pay $150-$200. It’s got nothing to do with vanity. A good wallet will last you for many, many years.
