Protein World Vegan Blend Salted Caramel Pouch 1kg $19.99 + $9.95 Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Chemist Warehouse

220

No, I’m not vegan however normal whey protein upsets my stomach

Long story short, found this plant protein today on sale at chemist warehouse

I thought it was super cheap at $19.99 per kilo

With 24g of protein, I think it’s a bargain & should be good for some cheap protein to have around the house

You mean the non vegan club?

Which is funny because I see more triggered omnivores these days.

      That’s the obvious answer lol

      However sometimes;

      A) I don’t bring my cooking utensils to the gym or to training

      B) sometimes i don’t have time to eat a meal on the run

      Or

      C) sometimes I just feel like a shake 🤷🏽‍♂️

      • Just stick a ribeye in the blender

    Thanks for posting OP.

I can't seem to find the nutritional label/data on the site unfortunately, but you noted how a serving contains 24 grams of protein.

Would you mind sharing the label/info with us? Because if a scoop is only 24 grams of protein (and the picture shows 203 calories per serve), it'd mean that just over half the calories are coming from some added combination of carbs and fats.

I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised - $20/kg for an isolate would be insane value for money.

      No worries man

      See if this works: https://ibb.co/L8tgX1Y

Let me know what you think also? I’m curious if it’s decent lol

        Thanks for posting.

Interestingly, the 203 calories they advertise on the front of the package is based on the serving being with 400 mL of almond milk! I don't know why they'd do this, but for anyone interested in the powder by itself (say, consumed with water) I've written it up below:

        Per serve (40 grams):

        • Calories: 140
        • Protein: 24
        • Carbs: 7
        • Fat: 2
        • Fibre: 4g

        Much better!

Interesting to see fibre added to the supplement (and that they've assumed it to be insoluble i.e. zero calories, but I digress).

        • Sick man thanks for the info!

I was literally on my way to nutrition warehouse to buy some PRANA ON protein ($88)

But this one actually gets the same amount of protein in each serve, so it was a no brainer tbh

Only downside is the packaging of ‘protein world’ is hideous lol

@Yafuturefavorite: If you really want to drill into the details, I probably wouldn't buy this again as it appears to be a proprietary blend, or at least doesn't list the leucine content. Leucine is an essential amino acid (EAA) and you want to get at least 2.7 grams of it per 25 grams of protein.

This product also has some filler/waste like guarana and green tea extract, for 'thermogenic' properties.

In future, if you want a no frills, high quality isolate (isolate because no dairy to upset you, like with concentrate) I'd buy from MyProtein when they do one of their 35% ~ 40% "sales" which are almost constant.

            • @Tight Tim: Do you have any recommendations for plant protein?

I've tried different isolates including myprotein but they still make me gassy/run to the toilet. Dymatize was pretty good but their prices have gone up a lot.

I've tried musashi's plant protein and it was pretty good, just wondering if there's better plant protein out there.

              • +2

@gaber: I get Musashi and INC plant protein when on sale at Chemist Warehouse. They both seem to do the job.

            • @Tight Tim: Aldi currently has the Botanika blends plant based powder for $34.99.

              • @dan76n: Are these any good? Price is good?

                • @dajackal: I really like the apple pie one.
I purchased 4kg as they are only this price when Aldi gets them in once a year.

                  • @dan76n: Sold! They should go well in my baked oatmeals. Thanks for the tip! Are any of the others flavours any good or nah?

                    • +1

@dajackal: Aldi only has the 3 flavours.
                      Oh my Apple pie.
                      Custard filled cinnamon donut.
                      Golden chia latte.
I tried all 3 last time Aldi had them and they are all ok but just prefer the apple pie one.

                      • @dan76n: Thanks just got 2 of the apple pie one.

How often do they go for sale at ALDI?

                        • +1

@dajackal: I think once a year, give or take.
If you like them I’d buy up now as they are $70 from the suppliers website.

                          • @dan76n: Yep I'll open up a bag when I get home, and if I like them, I'll buy a year's worth lol.

There were only 3 bags of apple pie at my local so might need to drive around lol

                            • @dajackal: Let me know if you liked it, might give it a go too

                              • +1

@gaber: Just made a smoothie with the apple pie protein powder and it's good! Flavors feel alot more natural, more subtle and not overly sweet. I prefer it this way. Will be buying more!

                                • +1

                                  @dajackal: Thanks!

Just grabbed the apple pie and custard filled cinnamon donut. Tried the former and it's probably the best tasting plant protein I've had. I'll start looking around different aldi branches for more too

@gaber: Awesome! I hope you don't live near me :P

                          • @dan76n: Thanks again for recommending the botanika blends protein powder. Ended up getting 5 bags.
Any way to subscribe to an alert when it next goes on sale at ALDI?

        • This protein actually meets ~30% of almost all micronutrients as well, as it's not just a protein shake, but a meal replacement.

    • Advise me of some vegan "isolate" protein supplements please.

      • Basically any pea protein isolates of your choosing.

Vegan Soylent Green is lower fat than regular Soylent Green.

  • I am new to this and I was asked to get a Amway all plant protein which works great as we can mix it in our breads (roti) we make. I tend to see other alternates are mostly flavored.

Is there any I can buy a vegan based unflavored please?

Sadly, I think CWH have ended their long standing Free Shipping Over $50 ?

Can't see the info any more and put an order in last night >$50 ($72) and it wasn't free delivery :(

Edit: found discussion from last week https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/760299

  • **** salted caramel tastes like guinea pig hay. Also very powdery
