Time Limit on Woolworths 'faulty Oil Sprayer' Return?

Hi everyone,

I bought the OzBargain favourite oil sprayer from Woolworths back in July 2022.

Recently it has stopped spraying. I pull the trigger and nothing comes out, even when full.

I approached Woolies today asking for an exchange because it's faulty, but the store declined since it was purchased more than a month ago.

I've checked their policy and it doesn't specify a time limit on faulty returns.

Anyone have experience or advice on this? I don't really want to pull the ACL card for a $6.50 purchase, so should I just suck it up?

It's not faulty if it used to work fine but has stopped for some reason after 8 months of use. Could be incorrectly stored or damaged by yourself or inappropriately cleaned or excessive force applied or any user-error reason. For a $6.50 item. Seriously?

I think you have forgotten other weirdos,

      • Just checking the policy, all good happy to move on :)

        • if the packaging said like 12 months warranty or something, you could take it to woolies I guess. You could give it a go in store (I guess it depends whos on the shift). May be they allow you a replacement.

I have tried to claim fees for multiple licenses/passport etc. stuff from $h!tptus (Optus) They reject all my claims, even though they caused me so much harm than mere money I had to spend on licenses, passport etc.

If you dont like the policy or the way company acts to you simply dont shop there anymore, or just suck it up as a one time bad experience.

Don't agree that because it cost $6.50 it's somehow ok for it to break quickly.

It's supposed to last a reasonable life for its intended purpose. I'd argue this is 12 months, since the intended purpose is to be reusable and not disposable. It's supposed to replace canned spray oil.

      • One failed. Next didn't work from new, no matter what I tried. Seems to be a poor product, designed to fail.

      • There's a difference in how it breaks though.

If it worked fine for 8 months then it's clearly not a manufacturing defect.

For example, OP may have put it in a hot dishwasher cycle/left outside in the sun which damaged the plastic inside or added chilli flakes or other bits to the oil that clogged up the nozzle. That's user damage and manufacturer isn't liable for that.

What a strange argument. So if a part on your car or vacuum cleaner breaks down, you shouldn't be able to get it replaced under warranty/ACL if it's been a few months?

Decor doesn't seem to provide warranty information. In this case ACL can be considered. At 6.50 - maybe it's reasonable for few months only, 8 months is defintely a lot longer.

Thanks for the reply, guess it's just time to move on then!

  • What I want to know is how do you still have the receipt?

    • +2

      E-Receipt on the app :)

  • They might refund you just to make you go away.

If not, I'm sure ozbargain can start a go fund me to do the same.

Thanks for your replies folks, it's set my expectations straight which I fully accept, and I'll happily move on. I know it's a low-value product that I can easily buy again, but price aside, I just wrongly assumed that it should have lasted longer than it did.

I think most people would assume that an oil sprayer, with simple mechanics and no batteries etc, would last for more than 8 months when they buy it. It doesn't matter if it's low value, i think 8 months isn't long enough for a reasonable person to believe the product life period will be fir this product. For a bargain site, i think people are acting a little high and mighty with the GoFundMe comment, calling you a weirdo and others.

Tell them Coles does fix it, they always did with me, Woolies loves BOQ customers, take all free fruit and tell them Coles will buy them….

Go back and try again with a different person.

I have tried several oil sprayers in years past. They always clog up and stop working. IMO it’s a flawed concept.

These things need to be cleaned regularly to last, hot water and a tiny bit of dishwashing liquid (very tiny) will help break down any gunk in there.

Depending on where it's blocked, could try a pin in the nozzle to dislodge anything in there before binning it.

    • Cheers will give that a try too!

      • And/or microwave it (empty), as empty as you can get it. But only for 10s or so. Add enough oil to cover the feed pipe and pump :-)
