Thanks, mainly use it on opal card top up :)

    • +1

How? I wasn't aware you could top up Opal at Woolworths/BigW at a discount.

      • +3

Top up Opal at Woolies with your discounted GC

      • +1

yes, if you get a discounted gift card/egift card (wish or woolies) go to a store that does Opal top ups and get them to use the gift card as payment. I've been doing it for years, but not all stores do the Opal top ups

      • +2

Only available at selected Woolworths store for example Town Hall Store and more…

        Chatswood Woolworths is not eligible

        • It's been a while since I topped up outside the city, but late last year you could still use gift cards to to up opal at both hurstville and mortdale. I'm surprised to read @bird380 comment that Chatswood has stopped.

      • You can find which Woolies/Big W near you do Opal top-ups here: https://transportnsw.info/trip#/opal-retailers

  • Thank You!

  • +1

Can this combine with Westpac spend $50 get $20 ?

    • I don't think it would work. The portal for gift cards is a different "retailer" than Woolworths groceries.

  • +3

Nothing special. There’s many ways to get 5% off gift cards. Doesn’t stack with 5% off gift cards for existing Woolies mobile or insurance members.

    • +9

Woolworths is only 4% tho? At least this is a little extra 😁

      • +6

        80bps extra 🎉

      • +4

100/105= 95.2. So only a little bit extra.

        • +21

But it's still a LITTLE bit extra, so thanks OP, and thanks so much for the neg vote. Seriously? A little more value is worth a post. Thanks OP.

          • +5

            @HappyPants: It wasn't me who negged you…

            • +6

@sween64: Sorry, the words of my post absolutely suggests it was you, but I wasn't thinking that for a second. Thanks mate.

      • +6

Especially since the mongrels have put prices up 20-50%. For example, Home Brand Winter Veg was $3/k last month now its $5/k ! Bell Farms were $3 now $4.20…sheer corporate greed!

        • -3

What do you expect? Woolworths to be your friend?

          • +11

@eccaz: But they can atleast be honest about it
They all virtue signal like hell but got millions in covid relief payments/wage subsidies from the state despite making an ungodly amount of money already…
They don’t care about us or the ‘minorities’ and all that ‘diversity’ crap.
            It’s all just a front.

        • +4

How else are they going to maintain their record profits.

        • -4

Maybe suppliers, transporters, warehouse rental, drivers wages, maintenance costs have all gone up. If an electrician can charge $250 to add a power point in 30 min why can't they cover costs.

          • +3

@Geoff01: Those costs absolutely did not go up >25% in a year. It's a cynical grab.

          • @Geoff01: All of the suppliers/transport/maintenance costs (maybe even fuel) would be locked into long term contracts. They own their warehouses. Drivers wages are dictated by corporate.

They simply pass on these increases to the consumer under the guise of inflation and the costs they're "incurring".

    • +1

And 5% off gift card is about 5.26% extra value on the card, which is better than 5% extra value.

    • +5

"Nothing special. There’s many ways to get 5% off gift cards. Doesn’t stack with 5% off gift cards for existing Woolies mobile or insurance members."
      Please tell :)

  • Thanks

  • +1

This is far better than buying visa or MasterCard that could get hacked..! Also you can buy $500 gift card instead of picking $100 … !

    • So hacker just do a random generated number on those cards ? I dont get it.

    • +3

WW giftcard also got hacked not long ago. Their IT system left a lot to be desired, stolen everyday rewards points is an ongoing issue for the last few years at least.

  • +7

Buy the ww gc and pay doesn't make me feel like saving money at all nowadays sadly😔 😭

    • +29

It’s time to lower your expectations. Don’t think of it as saving money. Think of it as losing less money.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

Anyone having issues paying by PayPal? Fails at the last step and immediately a refund gets issued.

    • +1

no issues for me this morning

    • +1

Is your hidden funding source what some would consider to be a bit dodgy?

      • +1

Ha ha. No, not at all. I’ll try again, perhaps on the laptop or a different browser on the phone. 😊

    • I just had the same issue :(

  • +1

Thanks OP, PayPal worked for me BTW.

  • +3

Thanks OP, paypal worked for me as well.

PS: you can add giftcard to rewards pay app which makes it way easier at the checkouts :-)

    • I cant get it to work. Stupid app keeps on saying my bank card can't be added.

      • I got the same stupid app. Haven't been able to add multiple bank cards since Nov last year. Contacted support several times who couldn't fix

  • Can you use gift Card to buy ultimate everyone ?

    • +1

Woolies won't let you buy gift cards with gift cards

  • +3

Victorian Senior, Business Discount Card and Carer Card holders can purchase WISH Gift Cards at a 5% discount.

Unsure if they actually want the card number.
If not, anyone can get the discount always

    https://www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/seniors-card/wish-gift-…

    • Can you pls share how/where the Victorian Seniors can access the 5% off?

      • +1

        The link is above…

    • Nice! But it looks like VIC is the only State providing the discount for seniors!?

    • It needs a card number

    • +3

Thanks good to know; I'll set a reminder in 25 years to get back to this again

  • +6

Thanks, OP. Should cover price rises for the next week.

  • +1

One idea: starting tomorrow, buy Coles Mastercard Giftcard $100 for $105 and collect 2000 flybuys (worth $10). Immediately after activation (to avoid future hacking) buy Woolies cards with 5% bump ($5 from $100 card). Total cost is $105 for the equivalent of $115 in woolies credit (9.52% profit). You can get the flybuys bonus for up to 5 cards, so in total, $525 spend for $575.

    • I think Safeway blocks use of mastercard giftcards for purchasing other gift cards.

You might wanna double check before going all in!

      • +2

Sorry… I forgot to add, you use the Coles Mastercard Giftcards via Paypal. Have done it before. I'll try it with a single $100 first, then make sure it works. If not, I'll just pay a bill with that money.

        • Has always worked for me in the past!

    • Is there an activation fee for the MC?

      • Yes. $5. That’s included in the $105 I quoted above. 100 buck card with 5% activation.

    • Please share if this works!

      • +6

CONFIRMED!!! Bought a $100 Coles MC GC, then went home, added it to paypal, then bought a $100 + $5 Woolies GC with it. Be sure that you use the Coles MC within Paypal to pay for it and not your preferred payment and/or existing cash balance.

So in summary: $105 ($100 + $5 activation fee) on the Coles MC GC for 2000 Flybuys ($10 of Coles credit) and $105 of Woolies GC.

Net result: Paid $105 for $115 in grocery store credit ($10 for Coles, $105 for Woolies).

I believe you can do this for 5 $100 GCs for a net of $50 extra. I've only done one so far though.

    • Can you step this up a level by using a Coles eGift card (purchased in Shopback app with 2% cashback) to pay for the Coles Mastercard gift card?

      • Not sure. Tomorrow is when you can buy the $100 Coles Mastercard GC's in-store and get the 2000 flybuys ($10) for each (up to 5). The plan I have above should work (@Peck supports). I'll try to do it tomorrow evening, and if I do, I'll report back.

One thing could definitely stuff it all up: The Woolies deal says "while supplies last", which I imagine is some total # of 5% boosted egift cards. If that runs out, then one can still use the Coles MCs, but lose the 5% boost. I'll say this: some have warned about hacking of the Coles MC's, so I strongly recommend using them very soon after buying them (which activates them). Use them on bills or use them to buy Woolies GCs. That's what I've done in the past.

        • "While supplies last" has kicked in and the offer is 5% offer is no longer available. Be mindful of that.

      • No you cant (T&Cs)… But yes it physically does work.

Need to find a checkout operator who will "give it a go". I said its a redemption gift card, not the normal gift cards that dont work…"give it a go"..ok..it worked!

Cant use a self checkout (will deny it), then Karen will come over and tell you all about it.

  • Having issues with PayPal.

    Works now

  • Thanks OP

  • +1

    Considered this Deal.
Still haven't spent all I bought last time.

    Then checked emails…
Just received $150 of Woolies egift cards for switching Electricity retailer in a comparison Deal😃

    • Can you send link for this? Does it work for NSW?

      • Check the Deals here under electricity. No current Deal. Yes - for NSW.

Signed up last week for next $100 Woolies egift card. Takes at least 90 days to be sent.

Unlike these, Gift card expires 90 days after that!

    • +1

Surprisingly don't seem to spend much.
Always have a lot of Rewards points from bonus offers.

Did a $30 shop on Sunday, used $20 credit, received 3530pts!
      (Bonus Offers of 3000pt on $30, 500 on 1c)

      • what's your secret? I hardly ever get deals that good anymore

        • +1

          Multiple Rewards accounts for family.
Even then, only received 1 emailed offer on 1 card.

    • +1

Just a headsup btw, these gift cards generally come with very short redemption windows.
Make sure to check your gift card’s expiration date

      • +1

Yes. As I warned above & in Deals - 90 days from issue.

Never been problem over many Deals. Always spent first.

Expiry date is shown when you receive card & shown if add in Woolies Money app.

(Just added mine to top of Woolies Money app to use first. Edited card name there to expiry date. Set a reminder. Expires 13/6.)

        • Wow so much for woolies gift cards that "never" expire

          • @snappy1234: Different type of card! Often discussed.

Those cards given out in Deals are corporate cards, used in promotions. So have conditions.
As clearly stated in Deal Description ***Gift Cards are valid for 3 months from the issue date and are not reloadable or redeemable for cash.

Unlike these retail cards - that "never" expire.

Can't imagine Ozbargainers couldn't spend the amount at Woolies in 90 days….
But some forget😢 Hence the warnings.

          • @snappy1234:

so much for woolies gift cards that "never" expire

Yes… Why would you ever want to hold onto gift cards for longer than say 90 days? as noshopping stressed below.

@higher interest rates you are just robbing yourself by not using them up quickly!

The longer gift cards aren't used, the more money for Woolies as a nice interest free loan!

So "never expire" cards are next to pointless!

Use them up as quickly as possible!!
Less chance then they'll be forgotten - the reason for "never expire" cards.

There will be other Deals & ways to buy discounted Woolies gift cards!! No need to stock up more than you can spend in say a few months.

Just don't be foolish & forget about them!

        • +1

Sorry, I genuinely didn’t see your comment above..My bad

  • Thanks

  • Thanks, Op.

  • Can these be used on the 20x points on Ultimate Everyone deal?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/762234

    • +1

you can't buy gift cards with woolies gift cards

  • how does paypal , pay in 4 amounts work? Never used it before? Any special fees or interest payments etc or is it worth doing especially if you have a home loan and so to keep the cash in your account for longer?

    • +1

I've been using it for big transactions. same as afterpay, no fee or interest unless you are missing the payments. minimum $30 purchase though.

      • +1

First time trying it out. I guess i dont make many paypal purchases except for i guess with ebay / other sellers. I presume if its 2nd hand / private sellers you cant do this pay off in 4 payments scheme.

  • +6

Only buy these cards if you plan to spend it quickly because of high interest rates, let me explain.

Lets say you buy $500 worth of gift cards, which you spend 3-4months later.

    $500 put in bank offering 4% interest = $1.66/mo
    3 month delay x $1.66 = $5

    $500 @ 5% off = $25.

So you leave it for 3 months, you're not getting $25 off, but really $20.

yep this is tightarse thinking, but just highlighting with high interest rates, you don't want to be "stacking up" and using it months down the line.

    • This is why i dont bulk buy cards anymore, Plus also why i posted my above query? Wasnt sure if there are any paypal fees that apply as well.

    • +1

What if you factor in tax on the interest?

      • -1

Wont apply if you have a 5.44% anz offset acocunt, like I have.

        • Wont apply if you have a fully offsetted account, like i have.

    • +2

why is $20 off still not a good deal?

    • So why do Woolies short date them. No reason to (other than a security risk- so improve it) ACCC should be all over it.

They give you something worth less and less everyday..
