Just a heads up this is due for a refresh.

    • I have been hearing that for the last one year

  • +5

Probably overkill for my needs… but I've always wanted one… don't really need it… but it'll be delivered by 9pm today…

    • Was umming and ahhing since saw last night from Harvey. Then decided I would just stick to my CCWGTV. Now just purchased it anyway.

      • I was going to wait as it will end up being cheaper once the next version is announced but I got a bad case of FOMO on this one. Haha

    • same with me, I have Xbox One, but this is coming tomorrow, also where on Earth that still delivers at 9pm?

  • I have Apple TV and Fetch mighty box. Also have 1 smart TV which has popular built in apps like Netflix, prime video etc. Is there a use case for me to buy this device?

    • +1

Just use the same user case that you used when buying Apple TV/Fetch mighty box/smart TV and rename it to Nvidia Shield TV Pro?

      • Thanks. Ordered one.

Also great to play all the old game systems on like n64 ps1 ps2 etc. Game Roms are on the net and emulators. Just get a Bluetooth game controller.

Thanks for the deal. I purchased this one to replace the 2017 on the main TV for the 4K upscale feature.

With a lot of people asking for a use case vs standard SmartTV/other branded streaming stick I'll share what I use my 2017 Pro for:
    - In home game streaming from a Gaming PC (NVIDIA unfortunately are discontinuing their own version but can still use Sunshine/Moonlight and SteamLink) These will technically work on SmartTVs but a lot of them have weak ARM CPUs that struggle encoding the video
    - Emulators/ROMS. I have emulated PS1, PS2, GameCube and works well up until that generation, I am not sure if the 2019 model takes the compatibility higher.
    - Plex client. I have a media server to transcode 4K but you can use this device as a Server as well with USB attached storage etc.

Stuff that is mostly available on other devices:
    - Streaming Client. It has access to the Google Play store so all the standard apps are available. I have Kayo, Netflix, Amazon, FTA apps on mine.
    - TV Receiver. HDHomeRun on the network and received by the Google Play app. I believe you can use the TV recorder function with attached USB but I don't need it.

    • Do you have an issue with the 2017 version with Kayo? Mine won't load live streams, just gives an error. I spoke with the Kayo people and they said "Too bad, we don't support that model any more"….

      • I never had an issue with Kayo on my nvidia 2015, 2017, 2019.

        • Thanks

      • I haven't had too many issues with the 2017 and Kayo, and if something does come up it's normally sorted by rebooting the Shield.
Have you tried the usual checking app is updated in Google Play. Uninstalling, reinstalling?

        • Done everything, only thing I can think is i stream Kayo through kodi but kodi is on V18.2 but the latest is 20+. I can't figure why it won't update….any ideas?

      • Use the Kayo Kodi add-on. Stream is more consistent.

        • Thanks but that doesn't work either and I can't figure out why. I attempts to start the stream then just returns to the menu….been happening for a few weeks…just can't work it out…

  • Can this run COD Mobile?

  • Convinced dad to get one so he can upgrade from his terrible built in tv OS šŸ™‚ great success!

I was lucky because I bought it a week ago for $279 and it was delivered to an Amazon location box. I was overseas at the time and when I got back I received a message saying it had been returned to Amazon, thing is I never received a message saying it was ready to pick up. Everything happens for a reason and just bought for $60 less.

  • For those desperate, hn still have some stock.

Be mindful. Nvidia are ending gamestream, no reason as to why.

  • so hard to resist. But already have fire stick Max 4k and i only use it to stream and i only have a cheap soundbar (which max out at pretty low volume)

    any benefits to getting this?

    • Get this if you like playing retro games

      • i don't game, but that could just be down to not having the consoles for it

    • +1

Buy now. Think later. Got 30 days to return if don't need

  • BPC has priced matched

  • I love the remote but there's no quick / easy way to use it to change the TV source.
Kind of not ideal when there's a PS5 / Shield plugged in there. Has anyone else found a fix for this? I'm on an LG C1

  • Does this thing still get updated? Last I heard Nvidia have cut some game streaming function and there hasn't been a word from them whether there'll be a new gen version. The TV Shield product line seem to be all but abandoned at this point.

    • It got updated (software) very recently.

Only discussion about hardware upgrades at this point.

  • Thanks OP! Finally got one after resisting for so long. TGG price matched and had them in stock.

  • can this get free to air to channels with an internet connection?

    • Couldn't you just install the channel's app like 10play etc?

    • You can get most with Kodi and Matt Huisman's playlist or plugin? I did it a while ago, but couldn't remember the exact details.

Also you get NZ channels, which is amusing

      • Thanks for this. Going to fire up my vodafone tv and install kodi on it.

  • Can I play Youtube on this? My Philips Smart TV is out of Youtube licence (so dumb) and YT app doesnt start any more.
What else can you do with Shield? say compared to Telsta TV?

    • The most basic streaming device can play YouTube. This can play anything.

  • Coming from a FIRESTICK 4K max, main use is Syncler, Stremio and Kayo sports, some light Kodi sometimes. Is it worth the plunge?

  • Back to $218 again.

    • went back to 309 :(
