COVID-19 Cancellation Credits: Validity Extended to 31/12/2023 (for Travel until 19/12/2024) @ Qantas & Jetstar

290

Qantas and Jetstar are giving customers an extra 12 months to use their COVID credits, which are a carry-over from the unprecedented upheaval to borders and travel during the pandemic.

Credits have been extended three times since 2020 and this final extension to the travel date is designed to make it easier for customers to use their remaining credits for domestic or international travel.

Before today, customers had to book and complete their travel by 31 December 2023. Following this change, they will still have to book by 31 December this year but have until December 2024 to complete their travel.

Why do covid credits have an expiry in the first place?

Very correct. A full refund was the correct way to handle this … and some airlines did!

I had two Qantas flights cancelled during COVID. Both times I was offered a refund or a credit. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story though!

And I had two flights cancelled during covid which I have been fighting for 3 years to get a refund for. It took them 2 years to even apply the credit voucher they agreed to give me when they cancelled the flight. Sometimes other people have different truths 😂

@AP7: Lol. Don’t forget to book your credit by 31st December, and enjoy your flight up to 31st Dec 2024 now!!

          From the ACCC:

"From our perspective, from the outset, Qantas did not communicate clearly with customers about their rights and, in a large number of cases, simply omitted they were entitled to a refund."

        • What fare class did you have?

There are fare classes that offer refund for any circumstances, and there are fare classes that doesn't allow any changes at all.

The refund people are after here is because Qantas failed to provide the actual service, it is irrespective of what fare class you bought.

early in covid i did manage to get a refund from jetstar, but it was like pulling teeth. more recently it was never an option at all

  • Qantas suck but have you by the balls. Still chasing 100000k points as well as other funds from a cancelled trip since April ‘22…

  • Thank you for this info, I thought I was going to lose my voucher or book an unwanted holiday…

They are still holding $800 million in Covid credit and collecting interest on it.

Should have just let them gone bankrupt like virgin did.

      • Virgin didn’t go bankrupt. Shareholders were returned 10 or so cents in the dollar as unsecured creditors. Buyers bought the airline cheap and others didn’t lose either. Be good to know how many in our government had shares in virgin.

          voluntary administration is bankruptcy.

          • @annarchon: I think it’s misleading to call what happened to virgin bankruptcy. It was just to make the poor poorer and the rich richer.

  • Thanks to all you suckers.
I have a very nice profit on my Qantas.$$$$
Keep up the good work on screwing people over.

Just remember, if you use the online booking function, you pay MORE than buying a cash fare. You need to call and get them to PRICE MATCH the fare advertised on the website in a normal search. This will save you heaps.
