Back to these very decent prices. See comment below for more info about current Steam 2023 Spring Sale.

Half Life: Alyx
Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s VR return to the Half-Life series. It’s the story of an impossible fight against a vicious alien race known as the Combine, set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2.

Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival. The Combine’s control of the planet since the Black Mesa incident has only strengthened as they corral the remaining population in cities. Among them are some of Earth’s greatest scientists: you and your father, Dr. Eli Vance.

As founders of a fledgling resistance, you’ve continued your clandestine scientific activity—performing critical research, and building invaluable tools for the few humans brave enough to defy the Combine.

Every day, you learn more about your enemy, and every day you work toward finding a weakness.

Lots of games are currently discounted during Steam's 2023 Spring Sale, see here

One can also claim a free, non-tradeable or marketable (boo) sticker daily by browsing a category from the main page (scroll down a bit and you should see it)

Some notable mentions/decent prices (and from other sites as well, why not):

The Valve Complete Pack is also on sale, but not at the same price as the last all time low.

    That is all, goodnight.

Are there anyway to play HL:Alyx without a VR set?? a possible workaround perhaps?

    • +10

I can't imagine why you would want to, the entire game is built around VR

      • +2

Price (VR set) + prequel storyline are a two reasons. Curious if there were some workarounds

        • +2

I think their is but its a risk to take

        • +1

Don't let the prequel part turn you off. Without getting into spoilers it still finds a way to impact the story of the future games.

        • +1

Borrow one. most of us with VR headsets (or 2!!) don;t use it enough. Its oz. you have to know someone.

I would not want to ruin the epic experience by playing it in 2d screen.

the head crabs are way more impactful when they go on your head than splat your screen.

        • If you have a 1060 or better GPU, buy a windows mixed reality headset off Facebook market place for around 200.

HLA is amazeballs. One of the best VR titles I've ever played.
Plus plenty of add-ons and mods in the workshop. I paid full price on release. 35$ is a steal!

I wish Gabe and Sony would make up, I'd gladly try this on my PSVR2

Some of the PS3 Valve stuff was actually good, Portal 2 is an excellent port.

    • +1

Unfortunately, I doubt that would ever happen with valve having their own PCVR hardware. I'm sure PSVR2 is going to cut pretty heavily into their market share for the Index as it is - no reason for Valve to give away one of their biggest selling points for PCVR to the competition.

      • Dumbest pc fanboy logic I've ever heard. Let pretend that Sony didn't port their high calibur exclusives to steam because Sony doesn't care about losing their PS4/5 hardware sales to PC/steam….
You are aware that valve had released HL 1 & 2, portal 1 & 2 and team fortress to PlayStation right?!?
        It's all business

        • No need to chuck a fit bro, it was just conjecture and I'd be very happy to see it come to PSVR. I'm no PC stan, I don't think the cost of PCVR is really worth the investment, but PSVR2 is much more reasonable.

    • Well there's a rumor valve might port HLA to psvr2, since it now an old game. Fingers crossed

  • How much better is Black Mesa vs Half Life? Anyone played it?

    • +2

If you never played the original, I'd recommend Black Mesa. Half-life is an amazing game, but it doesn't hold up too well nowadays. Still fun but Black Mesa improves on a lot of things. Only expectation is Xen, the end of the game, which goes on a bit too long IMO.

  • Can I play this without playing any of the other Half Lifes? (expecting people to tell me to play the previous ones cause they were gems, but I'm curious if they're standalone)

    • +3

Yes, you can definitely play it without playing the other ones. But to get the biggest nerd chill at the end, you’d need to have an understanding of the previous games. Gameplay of HLA alone will blow your mind.

    • +3

Don't play half life Alyx if you haven't played the other games. The start of the game literally spoils the ending of episode 2 lol

  • +1

Thanks OP, this is a great price for HLA. Sadly, I don't think I'd be able to play it anytime soon as I don't have a VR headset and it wouldn't be worth purchasing for just one game even if it is Half-Life :(

    • +1

Haha, same sentiments here; would definitely be an easy pickup if I also had a headset myself! Gameplay looks so fun.

Thanks for all your comp posts TP :)

Half life 3 is still not on sale, will wait.
