+1 for the detailed post and great table layout. Cheers

Thanks! I was optimistic chatgpt could make light work of the task. But like every time I've used chatgpt, it does the first 80% well, then it takes me just as long to fix its errors as it would have for me to do it from scratch in the first place…

  • +11

The amiibo looks great, but can't justify the price…

    • Exactly

    • +3

      @RichardL

Neither do I but I’m trapped in the cycle of it already.
Have collected them since day 1 - no point in missing any now.

Thank goodness, however, that not many are being released nowadays. I’d be happier if they stopped completely actually.

      • "Have collected them since day 1 - no point in missing any now."

There are lots of points not to keep throwing good money after bad but this is ozbargain and even I have ozb in my username so fire away

        • +1

Nah I’m not going to fire away.

I enjoy collecting them. But now they’ve become too many. But it’s also become easier - if that makes sense. Easier that just a few come per year. (I’d prefer none though as I said earlier)

Some I wait until prices drop/ sale (like the recent street fighter 6 amiibo)

I have a feeling that these ninty ones will be scarce - as EB does not take preorder for them instore anymore. Let’s see anyway.

    • I want to complete my Zelda amiibo collection but the price hike from $22 to $30 is crazy. I’ll just have to hold out and hope they get discounted in the future. Doesn’t seem like there’s a shortage so fingers crossed

      • You need to get over to Japan and hit the second-hand stores. They had all sorts of Amiibo in those for around $15 AUD.

        • Yea but the shipping cost with that method is crazy

  • +11

Game prices aren’t half bad - relatively speaking to what the prices are in the USA. (eg. Mario Galaxy 1+2 is RRP US$70 before tax! (AUD $105.07 😳😱)

Mind you they are still expensive here (for a Wii port) - which once upon a time went for under $20 on Wii U eshop.

Nintendo requires to taste some humble pie soon. They are at their best behaviour (and innovative/ creative as well) when they are humbled.

    • +1

Technically this is the second time that Mario Galaxy 1 has been released on the Switch (first time being on Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which are going for >$100 on the second hand market…).

      • +1

Sometimes it pops up on EB games for under $75 (pre owned)

        https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/nintendo-switch/267554-su…

      • Those 3 games are all emulated, while this time galaxy 1&2 might be remaster.

        • +1

          Emulation.

          • +1

            @Circly:

            Emulation.

Not quite. The games are ported to work natively with the Switch 1/2. It's not technically emulation. And while the ports have some enhancements, including improved graphics and extra features, I'd say it's a stretch to even call them remasters.

So they're not emulated or even truly remastered. They're just ports with a few sprinkles on top.

        • +6

If it was remaster they would 100% say so. It's not. They used the term upscaled resolution which will mean smoother outlines but it won't change any textures or assets. But it's Nintendo. They used 3ds assets for the Pokemon games & people still buy it like hot cakes. As well as not updating the joy on design to fix drift issues. Until people hold them to standards they won't care.

          • @lestat87: Talking about the textures, funilly enough Good Vibes Gaming on YouTube did a comparison showing that some textures have been updated.

        • +1

these new ones arent remastered either

      • -2

Yeah, I never played all stars. I got it because I knew it will increase in price.

  • +4

+1 for layout OP - great work!

I thought the Mario galaxy games were switch 2, but the images are only switch 1 box art.. does anyone know?
Is galaxy 1 any different here from the Mario 3d all stars collection which I already own?

    • +1

Apparently they will have a free upgrade on switch 2 to play 4K docked and 1080p handheld

The Switch versions include new features, amiibo functionality, a soundtrack mode, and enhanced resolution on the Switch 2 (4K in docked and 1080p in handheld mode).

      https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/09/poll-so-will-you-b…

    • +3

1080p on Switch, and 4k on Switch 2. Link

    • +1

Upscaled resolution. Similar to what Bluray players did for DVDs. You likely won't be able to tell unless you see them side by side. It should be a crisper image but not better quality

  • That Galaxy collection price is crazy considering the US price

  • Weird that the Rosalina amiibo is out of stock. It was the same when I checked a few hours ago

    • Available again.

      • Nice, I just happened to check before and it was there, glad I didn't miss it as I only just saw your message!

I had 3 Camel alerts and had it on my Amazon wishlist, both proved to be useless!

  • +1

    Good games, bad prices

    • Agree, it's pretty egregious to charge that much for the bundle given Mario Galaxy was on that 3D All Stars pack. I know you can buy Mario Galaxy 2 individually but it's only available on the e shop and it's $60.

  • +4

Might be worth waiting for Target also. The last two times I thought I found a good deal early, Target then eventually started selling the thing the day of release for even cheaper (using the voucher method)
Nice to have these as a fallback though :D

    • +1

Even without voucher method which could get you banned target will consistently be $10 cheaper on release week.

    • whats the voucher method?

      • +1

Sign up to their newsletter, get a $10 off code for any purchase over $50.
Thing is you can use a dummy email and do this over and over.

As Jacob said they may ban you though… I've done this about 3 times myself and seem to be fine so far 🤔

  • +9

Reminder Dolphin is on Xbox Series (dev mode is now free for side loading apps) and can easily run Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 at 4K.

Even the most basic PC or Mac will also play them fine.

So rip your original copies to a flash drive and don’t pay Nintendo another cent for a game you’ve already paid them for.

    • What the? That's massive news, I had no idea. Holy moly!

    • So rip your original copies to a flash drive and don’t pay Nintendo another cent for a game you’ve already paid them for.

Technically, what you say may also imply that it’s ok to 🌊🌊⛴️🏴‍☠️ the switch version as well, since one owns the Wii versions.

  • These companies set their prices relative to US /their local prices months in advance then hedge the currency to stabilise their profit margins. With the Aussie dollar continuing to climb, prices at Apple and Nintendo etc will continue to look more unfavourable in the short term.

  • +3

As the owner of these games already on Wii, I disagree with you.
People get so worked up on re-releases being perceived as a rip off.

You do realise it had been near 20 years since it's original launch. They did an all star release which you can no longer buy… But ultimately my now 10 year old son and many other new generations will get a chance to play this game on "their" console.
I'm excited to get this for my kids to play
Great game, and I'll have a crack too.

Older people need to stop thinking these games are about them and how they feel ripped off

      • Is the Switch 2 release going to be emulated? I haven’t looked into it much but there’s apparently some new features.

        • New features could have been patched into the original Wii version and then still emulated. Will see. I'll remove my comment because I may be wrong.

    • +7

I think it comes down to the fact that a port/remaster is (generally) much less effort than a fully developed game. Even less effort if they’re just emulating (I’m not sure what they’re doing for this release).

I guess everyone is just a bit sour (rightfully so in my opinion) as Nintendo has just been squeezing customers, for a while now, but especially since the release of Switch 2.

    • -1

Let me know if you need some mouthwash to clear out that taste of corporate boot.

    • +1

Great games which you can get hold of outside their ecosystem. They still charge full price for emulation. I can't think of any other company that does this. The rest rerender the assets to higher quality at the minimum.

  • +1

How the hell is Hyrule warrior, a KT game, costing more than prime 4?

It's a KT musou game. The whole point of it is they make one game every 3 months. Have they been pretty fun lately, like the last Hyrule warrior and three houses? Yes. But I definitely didn't pay AAA price for them.

    • Humble pie - I hope ninty somehow ‘falls’ from their high pedestal. Sony as well.

  • Not sure if I should just get the Switch 2 version of Prime 4, or the Switch version and upgrade….

    • +2

Switch 2 cart of Metroid (also the Zelda’s) can be played on switch 1. (They all contain switch 2 game + the upgrade in the cart)

      • Do we know for sure Prime 4 will have a physical card and not just a digital code in the box?

        • +1

All Nintendo 1st party games have the full game data on card. I believe they’ve stated so themselves. (Source is somewhere on google)

If you don’t see ‘Game Key Card’ or ‘Code in a box’ plastered on the box - that means the game in the cart is full data (minus of course patches, updates etc. goes without saying)

          • +1

@YoursTruly: Didn't breath of the wild switch 2 come with cart and digital upgrade code? I hope this is not the same for metroid

            • +1

@RQNinja: No code. it’s in the same switch 2 cart. (Red cart)

  • +3

So ready for hades 2, but the game is digitally released on the 25th of September. You'd be waiting an extra 2 months for a physical cartridge.

    • And an extra $20.

Will the switch 2 cartridge work on the switch 1?

      • No

      • Yes - any "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" works on both, just won't have the Switch 2 upgrade applied.

        • Only 1st party games are guaranteed to do so. 3rd party games are mostly not.

  • Steep prices.

  • Now to wait for a deal for the Switch 2…

  • +2

    Hades 2 FTW!!

    • Waiting for Steam sales…

  • -1

Metroid looks rough. Can't believe I wanted 8 years for this.

    • +1

      I’ve waited 18 yrs (since mp3)

Does it really? Looks good from what I see.

The gameplay experience is sure to be the main draw

  • +1

just thought id share my scrooginess
i got a little extra off my switch 2 prime 4 order using the top cashback offer here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/924300
and i added a reeses peanut butter cup for a $1 to take advantage of the VISA $5 off $100 spend, code is VISAFIVE

    • +3

      to anyone considering this don't do exactly what crazyhor suggests, preorders are fine but not for Prime 4 as it drops in 79 days and TCB offer is only valid based on the below condition;

Pre-orders, but only if the item is scheduled to be shipped within 60 days of purchase.

Prime4 dropping outside the above condition already gives a reason to invalidate the cashback.

you could do it for a bunch of amiibos and the mario galaxy game tho, Early Nov cutoff for TCB

  • +6

$20 extra for Metroid on Switch 2 is bullsh*t.

I might just leave my switch 2 to collect dust and just emulate it on PC instead. They should at least include it as part of the NSO subscription like they did with BOTW/TOTK

    • +3

It's stupid. You literally pay for a new Switch 2 to play 4k and higher frame rates and then they make you pay additional $$ to play it at 4k and the higher frame rates.

      That's double dipping.

Not sure why there isn't more outrage.

      • +1

This isn’t a justification, but an attempt at an explanation. I think it’s a financial strategy. They want to up the price of games going forward by $20. Whether or not those reasons are justified, who knows.

But equally, they’re reluctant to raise the prices on the previous Switch generation.

So how do they lift the baseline while not isolating existing switch users?

        This is their solution.

I find it awkward and weird, but the thought that after two decades of stable prices it’s gone up - I don’t find that strange.

      • I agree with you but they can do this because they got the idea from Sony who did the same thing with PS5 upgrades (usually $15). While this is Nintendo Nintendoing, Sony totally opened this jar for them.

    • It sucks I know

Maybe the 20% off eshop credits on sale at Coles from Wednesday may help.

Or shop around at launch for a cheaper copy of the switch 2 version

  • Anyone thinks these will sell out in preorder or shortly after release?

Waiting for BF or Xmas sales.

    • +2

I don't think so, no. Only the amiibos might.

    • Amiibos have sold out in the past - never to come back again.

I recommend to lock in a preorder (if you intend to get them)

  • Amazon have age of imprisonment for $99 now.

If you add $1 of items and check with Visa and use code VISAFIVE then you can save $5 on the preorder by 30 September.

  • Kirby Air Riders also available to preorder $99 -

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0FNCCXF45?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_a…

    • +1

So is Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Just thought I'd only include the items from the most recent direct. All good value though up on Amazon :)

      • +1

Sorry, meant you can preorder the Kirby Air Rider amibos with the game.

  • +2

Always a good idea to keep an eye on pricing at Target and using the $10 e voucher for games

    • This was plan until amazon price matched prime 4 @ $89 (we had credits to use)
