All these compact and bigger garment steamers are really good for are thin and light shirts and the like. Don't expect miracles. Won't ever look as good as something done with a proper iron anyway. As long as you go in with low expectations, it's more convenient I guess.

  • Steamers are useful for removing old window tint. I have one, but never used it on clothes; rather iron them.

I have one of these, it's good for Uniqlo easy iron work shirts.
Not best with the thick cotton workshirts.
Also normal tap water clogs it, buy some demineralised water.

      buy some demineralised water.

      So that's ongoing cost 😢

    • How about Brita filtered water?

      • +1

I use Brita filtered water with a different model for a few months, so far so good.

I’ve been using this for years. No descale required so far. I’m in melbourne. Use Brita limestone filter if your area has hard water.

      Boiled water should be fine.

      • Wait what? Boiling is unlikely to deminarlise your water if your source is hard. If this worked for you, you probably dont need to do it.

        • +1

Boil the water and capture the steam, that’s pure water! Lol.

  • Would this be good for curtains?

  • Damn, thought it was a speed gun.

This might be a better option for some. $55 and nearly twice the weight, but looks like it might do a better job.

Went for this one you linked instead

    • is more weight = better for these things?

I mentioned it for the fact that it's a lot less portable, which was one of the main selling points of the OPs deal.

I have the Philips. It's okay as a steamer, except the reservoir only carries enough water to steam one shirt. So you're constantly refilling it if you want to steam even just one outfit.

And that's not terrible, except you need to use demineralised water with it. So it's portable in that you can pack it in a suitcase, but you still need to buy demineralised water at your destination. For home use, I'd recommend spending a bit more and getting a bigger garment steamer.
