[QLD] Soft Plastic, Hard Body Lures, Braid + Others for $1 Each @ BCF, DFO Jindalee

100

I walked into BCF at Jindalee (DFO) today to get some stuff for the boat, and they had a bargain bin out the front. The other day they were $5 for everything which I thought was pretty good, and today I walked in and everything was $1. As you can see from the receipt (ignoring the additional items) I got everything in the photo for $23. Not bad for 18 packets of soft plastics, 2 spools of braid, and 3 squid lures.

There was other soft plastics, including Glup packets and tubs, and a bunch of big hard body lures for off-shore fishing, such as poppers, but that's not my thing.

Fishing. When 170 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean is just not enough

    • Piss off. It's so boring. I'm sure you're a saint

    • That’s fair, less plastic is better. I think you’ll find there’s a lot of respect and education amongst modern fishos about the local river and ocean ecosystems though. Throwing even 1cm of your line cut off back in into anything but your tackle bag will get you crucified

  • BCF bankstown today and saw a clearance bucket at the front too. No soft plastics but heaps of hard lures and other gear.

Nothing better than buying the plastics that have the lowest hit rates 😆

    • Yeah but 18x low numbers is still numbers… right?!

  • Those pearl trout paddle tails go good. Same with the small grubs.

The risky critters are good as well.

  • That's a cracker of a score there. Might have to pop down to Tingalpa tomorrow and see what's there.

Eh they're just okay. There's a reason these are all in the bargin bin lol.

They're all surface floating plastics. Not the best and limited to some species only (that attack surface/floating plastics).

Usually I only for go for the soft plastics that are non floating so they actually go into the water so other species swimming below can attack it.

Only okay things are the squid jigs but I can even get really decent ones for like $3-5 each from independent brands. The ones shown in the pic are Pryml ones, which is like just a slight step above Kmart ones.

The braid are 4lb and 6lb. Not really the best for most people. 4lb, I have no idea what you would use that for. Really light fishing? Targeting what? 6lb could be alright but still pretty light, especially for salt water fishing.

I usually fish with Z-man soft plastics as they are fairly resilient and I have to throw them away a lot less often than say the squidgies I used to use when I first started fishing. But they also float (to my knowledge), when they're on the bottom their tails stick up in the water - but the jig head keeps them down. The reviews on BCF are generally very positive - so for $1 I'm happy.

And for the type of fishing I do (flathead, bream, whiting - all estuary fishing) these should be fine, along with the light braid. I've used 4LB braid for the longest time and happily land 50-60cm flatties, never had a break. I change my leader based on the conditions and fish, which has had a much bigger impact on snag and bit resistance.

I understand for a lot of fishos, these might not be great - but at the very least, they're tackle box fillers for desperate situations.
