Ryobi 18V ONE+ 25cm Line Trimmer 2.0ah Kit $99 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ Bunnings

190

Very decent price for this entry level line trimmer/whipped snipper IMO although seems to be very low stock. Picked up one in my nearby Bunnings (Mornington, TAS). Tried it out this weekend, as described not suitable for heavy duty but enough for maintenance level jobs. Works for at least 15+mins.

This is a similar listing but for $149: https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-25cm-2-0ah-line-tr…

Don't bother this has only 1 line cord that comes out and gutless i took mine back the next day after trying to do very lite work with it .

    • What were you using it to cut though? I've got an older single line model, and it does the Jon for regular edge trimming. I even used used to use it to mow my (small) lawn.
No good for tall thick grass though to be fair.

Cutting 30 mm Zoysia grass on the path edge that could be easy done with real line trimmer that i have now .

    • I have one and it works fine. Your expectations were to high.

  • What’s the difference between a whipper snipper and a line trimmer?

    • Whipper Snipper is/was a trademarked brand name.

      • There you go, I didn’t know that, like Xerox and Champagne

        • AFAIK Xerox it a trademarked name, and Champagne is a protected regional designation.
So, not the same as champagne, but similar to Xerox (or band-aid etc etc etc).

    • Depends what you're planning to use it for?

Would recommend spending the extra money if you can, the difference is night and day

    • I try to buy midtier and above to save in the long run. Better quality and longer lasting…

Search project farm on YouTube. Does comparison testing on a range of different products. Has a video on battery powered line trimmers.

I would only buy the 36v Ryobi stuff. This 18V stuff is gutless.

  • +1

We had one of these for a couple of years.

It's okay for normal edging but the trick is to use the largest and best quality cord you can get - it makes a massive difference.

    • Any recommendations on cord?

    • recommendation on cord? Mine needs to be replaced now

I've had one of these for about a year. Its ok for my use, edging a small amount of grass. Auto-feed seems to have broken (no longer auto-feeding) and a set of replacement spools and line (blue line) is heaps worse than the stock spool and needs re-feeding every 30 seconds when edging against pavers/concrete..

Would be better than those grass trimmers with the solid plastic, but wouldnt buy again….

I have knee high tall grass that requires cutting, after all the rain. Will this line cutter do it? Thanks

  • Any recommendations on a better battery operated line trimmer?

    • Depends on your budget and existing tools.

If my house exploded I would re-buy all my Ego gear.

    • The ryobi 36v version

Eh. Let me muddy the waters to balance out all the naysayers.

I really like this tool. Despite having a specialised Ryobi whipper snipper and dedicated edger.
I use it 80-90% of the time, to edge trim / whipper buffalo grass other kinds of mixed grass and weed.
Yes it struggles a little bit with buffalo stolons, and you may need to run it through a 2-3 times.
But this one is versatile, light, good value and simple.
I think any critique of the line is directly an issue with the line itself, this is where you invest in better lines than Ryobi standard issue ones.

Simplicity and ease of use matters, especially if you do garden work semi-frequently.

    • Very fair. I don't think there are better ones within $100 range.

    • my experience with this trimmer was fairly positive in terms of it's ability to trim/edge.

i think it would suit nanna, or someone with a small yard.. lite duties quite well.. it's light and small.
it self-fed quite easily.. didn't seem too difficult to reload (and I think you can buy loaded cartridges for nanna to just pop in).

my main issue was with it being rather short.
I'm 190cm.. I had to hunch over to use it properly.
Duct taping some aluminium pipe to it made it much easier to use but looked a bit silly.. so i sold it.

Fair. I do happen to be as short as your local garden gnome.

I’ve got a commercial Honda 4 stroke whipper snipper that’ll cut through most jobs, but I still use my 18v ryobi often because it’s light and deadset easy to use. Maybe results vary based on the cord you use. Mine is an R18LTR10 model, looks different to this one - I really like it. It easily does buffalo lawn edging with zero issues and little effort.

  • Had mine for about 5 years now. Edge a 770sqm block. Does the job for 90% of the lawn except for some patches which are really thick and require one of those steel edgers or a 4stroke (I used a shovel) I bought some thicker diamond shape line off eBay and it's way better than the stock stuff. I use a 4 or 5ah battery and can do all my fence lines and lawn edges and the nature strip. I've never cleaned it either. I use it and then hang it up til next time. I did spray it with WD40 silicon spray initially (the stuff you use on mowers underneath) but all the dust still sticks. For $120-sowmthing at the time it has definitely paid itself off. Is it the best? No. Is it worth me buying something twice the price? Also no.

I have knee high tall grass that requires cutting, after all the rain. Will this line cutter do it? Thanks

      • It did the job for me, I took it easy and started trimming up high and had no trouble

  • Is there a difference between the linked products in the post? $99 v $149, appears to be the superseeded v new model. But are there any changes in the new model? Not that I can see…

    • I compared the packaging closely and the only difference I noticed is the IN number. Could be something changed in the motor but I don't think that will worth another $50.
